the reality of this film is something that hits me every time because the child in me doesn't want the story to go this way. Its so real and I hate it but its just so beautiful and I understand more and more each time i watch it

PS - that's when they were singing. The scenes in between are a perfect montage of how they grew apart, which makes them being sandwiched between this love song SO tragic!

I'm getting so sad, nostalgic and melancholy when I see in this movie and out of it that these 2 didn't stay together and in real life too! I also was in LA when the world wasn't as sick as it is now. Trying to promote my singing career. Tough town.

Romance movies with unhappy endings are better. More cathartic especially if you’ve suffered your own loss.

I just returned from L.A. yesterday and watched "La La Land" again on board the 757 from LAX to EWR. It made me want to turn the plane around and go back. There is magic in the real place, for sure.

I agree, I was born in LA but now live in No Cal. Although some parts of LA are ugly (too much traffic, i.e.) the city vibrates with unlimited possibilities. You feel like anything could happen there as it often does for those lucky few. And then, the sky is the limit.

First to comment, this film is incredible and "City of Stars", both the duet and the solo by Ryan Gosling are some of my favorite songs from the film

The absolute best love story set in a musical genre since West Side Story but i really loved this movie perfected masterpiece better! Ryan, Ryan 🔥💕🥰💫⭐

Likewise, the following scenes change as well, showing Mia and Seb starting to lead separate lives despite living under the same roof, with modest colors signifying a more depressing mood. The Rialto being closed conveys how Mia and Seb's relationship has effectively closed. They have now begun living separate lives that are slowly becoming incompatible with each other. Every interaction they have after this song is conflict and disagreement; Seb's new music gig, the dinnertime argument, the bombed one-woman show, etc. Their relationship has closed along with the Rialto. They both got what they wanted. Success. Ultimately, they didn’t want each other as they wanted success. Thus the movie did have a happy ending. I understand Mia finding a guy and family. What happened with SEB? Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
