Here is a video featuring the world premiere run of Mike Read's 'City Of Dreams' at the wonderful ESHER THEATRE. Footage was taken on the last night 29 April 2023.
Featuring the music of Eric Coates (who wrote some of the best known light orchestrial tunes such as the theme tune to Desert Island Discs and The Dam Busters March.)
Coates never turned his music into a musical - so in 2023 Mike Read has done just that. Loosely based on Midsummer Night's Dream, the show is set in 1932's Picadilly Circus and takes in the stories of two night club club owners, flower sellers, street entertainers and even lovers as they survive in the beating heart of 1930's London.
Starring Leee John and Peter Straker, alongside Andree Bernard, David Breeds, Nicola Blackman, James Mole, Henry Chandler, Tara Ivory, Fillipe Ribeiro, and Summer Tenkesbury. Directed by Ray Shell, Choreography Lee Payne, and musical direction David Looseley.
