    It's not gonna change. New Mexico is a welfare state. I don't think the weather man, a Democrat, or any Republicans could ever fix it. What I've been noticing is alot of outsiders coming in (whites and Mexican) trying to influence what should be right and what should be done. New Mexicans don't need any services. A lot of the newer generations don't get it. Get a job or work the field. I go back and forth from Albuquerque to Northern New Mexico working the land. I have a hard time understanding how people wanna exist now being city dwellers.

    Put $90,000 into drug rehabilitation , shelters and affordable housing not fences. That is not solving anything, that's not helping peope struggling with addiction, mental health and homelessness. So tax payers are paying $90,000 per ally way to put a fence that cost about $1,000. It's BS.

  • @Dracobalt

    @Dracobalt

    24 күн бұрын

    Definitely not $1000 lol. I don't really like that they said up to $90000 without giving the per foot price. Assuming someone decides to do the work themselves... I just found similar panels on Amazon. 5' high x 6.5' wide. So you cover almost 7' for $208 lol. I guess that'd translate to 70' for $2080? You could probably go up to the alleyway and measure the distance. Doubt it would be $90k but definitely not $1000 unless you're installing trash. Go measure. Look up some prices. Add in some labor costs and then add in a little markup like all businesses do because everyone needs to make a profit to stay in business. I wouldn't be surprised if it was like $20k-$40k. Fencing is rather expensive now... More so after covid. They didn't actually mention how much THIS alleyway cost. This covers them, because you aren't given actual facts. $90k could even be the total for various alleyways. Drug rehab will not work for everyone. If the person doesn't want to change... They will NOT change even with all the help in the world. We've allowed easier access to weed here now. Although it's not "addicting" it's an entrance drug...some people never go passed it .. but it does get others to more easily try other drugs. Homeless people should just be given 2 options..a nice home with expectations of them to better themselves (this would mean giving them help accessing resources available) or jail and they can have shelter and food.

    What seems to be the problem?? We have the largest country jail in the state of NM ! But yet the drug seen in Albuquerque is out of control. Every where you go, you see help wanted signs. But yet we have a homeless problem??? Lock up these people and make them do commuting service and clean up our city!! Or send them to Rio Rancho, and they will sure as hell put them in jail!! Why do you think there's no problem with homelessness there.

    I was born in Albuquerque in 1956. I grew up in Barelas. The Good Shephard fed about 20 homeless people at 5:30 pm every evening lined in front of my grandmas house at 212 Iron. We were just kids playing in the front yard and we were never afraid. The homeless population here in Albuquerque was brought here from other Democratic states by Governor Grisham and mayor Keller. Ask them but you will never get an honest answer. Yet they were re-elected. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Keep voting Dems!

    You're probably right to be honest. Homelessness decreased slowly up till 2017 and then began to rise. Peeking in 2023 with 2024 data not complete yet obviously the monthly data shows it's trending down. It takes time for policies to have effect.
