A Pill For Loneliness is the new highly anticipated studio album from City and Colour, a.k.a. Dallas Green. His last studio release in 2015 coincided with his decision to take a break from an exhausting touring schedule and, at the time, Green didn't exactly know what this meant - except that he would have more time for himself, less pressure and no deadlines.
For most people, what he did during his time off wouldn't count as much of a break. Green launched his own label, Still Records (an offshoot of Dine Alone Records), where he aims to "curate a collection of projects that he thinks deserves to be heard and enjoyed." As a first order of business under the newly formed label, Green produced and helped release an album by his friend Ben Rogers, called Wildfire.
It was his time spent in the studio as a producer, surrounded by friends and working on someone else's music for once, that rejuvenated Green's creative energy and ultimately led to him writing songs for his new album, released on Oct. 4.
Producer: Nick Bonin
Recording Engineer: Alain Derbez
Mixing Engineer: Ron Skinner
Audio Assistant: Ian Theriault
Director: Mike Carry
Camera Operators: A.J. Leitch, Sara Cornthwaite, Mike Carry

As a young kid I would fall asleep to his albums on little gray CD player. My mother would always start it for me. I could not sleep without it. The sound of his angelic voice, the sound of his harmonic guitar, it all fuzed to create something so special for myself and his audience. As I became older I developed an understanding of his lyric, as I started to experience the things he had sung about. His songs provide a sense of security, knowing that Dallas can understand the things I have had to endure, even if he doesn’t know of my existence. Even still as a 16 year old, I listen to his songs to sleep on an Amazon Alexa Dot. Him and his songs will always have a place in my heart. To me he is the best, and always will be. Legends never die, and he truly is a legend in my world. His music is powerful enough to give me the courage to keep on with life. His music that was once only a lullaby to me became something that I can fully understand and cherish as I got older. Edit: I wish I got to see him with my eyes.

I have loved Dallas Green for over a decade. He is one of the best songwriters & singers that has ever existed. No one knows who City & Colour is when I say they are one of my favorite groups, but I enjoy all his talent & soul. 'Bring Me Your Love' & 'A Pill For Loneliness' are my favorite albums. I saw City & Colour in 2013. He got a phone call on stage & announced his brand new baby being born. I took my nephew who never heard of City & Colour & he really was impressed.

I've been a fan of Dallas Green since the early Alexisonfire days before anyone knew who they were. I saw them for the first time back in 2003 in Kingston Ontario at a bar called AJs Hanger, might have been 50 people there. I've been a City and Colour fan since day one. His music is so powerful yet so calming. His voice and guitar tone, along with his song writing abilities are a combination that no one else can match, at least not in my opinion. I've been fortunate enough to have seen Alexisonfire and City and Colour live many times and feel like a huge part of my life growing up wouldn't have happened without them.

gonna have to disagree on this one, when he plays with alexis you can see a bit more of that angst and rage. the acoustic stuff is a fun break and he's said before he enjoys it but does miss the energy of the full band. he's an amazing musician but it's easy to forget that everyone except the drummer is a lead singer in another band so the musical capacity of that band can only bring out more

Studio album is just that...an album. Glens live performances, though, are a whole experience. Also, father john misty, war on drugs, even fleet foxes on their latest album sound better live(pretty sure their lead singer actually saught help to sound/sing better live and it SUPER worked).

i too often completely forget that Dallas was once a major part of Alexisonfire, simply because his solo music is so absolutely captivating. he was born to be a solo artist. the first (and only) time i had the privilege to witness him playing live, he had me and probably about half of Webster Hall in tears, no exaggeration whatsoever. it was beautiful.

Thanks for sharing your music with us Dallas! Acoustic and more intimate performances like this one are definitely a preference, over studio versions of most of his songs for me. Something about the raw, pure and unaltered sound is so mesmerizing. 🔥🔥🔥

A girl I was dating dragged with me to see a concert with Dallas before corona and since I had never heard of him and it didn't seem like it was my type of music, I thought it was going to be garbage and tried to avoid going with her. But somehow I went there with her and I was absolutely mindblown by his talent. It was so cool to see someone who has mastered his craft to perfection. And trust me, he really does sound better live, I don't know another artist who does. Anyway, it didn't work out with the girl but I found Dallas so I count it as a victory regardless! :-)

I keep coming back to this performance and am completely addicted to his live version of these songs. I really think the best part about Dallas Green is his need to keep working on his music, even the oldies like Body in A Box (my personal favorite). It's incredible to listen to a song you've known for 14 years and still find nuances in the way he sings and plays them. I really need to see him live one of these days.
