Good to see you are back on the Mahari. I.m the proude owner of two 2cv. I have learnt a lot on your previous video's about 2cv engines. After some time with the more complicated cars it must be nice to be back on the more simple stuff. You are brilliant, and I love to follow your channel. I found your channel for years back on a search for 2cv, but you have been giving me so much more entertainment from your other projects.

Quite sobering my 1984 Vespa T5 has 3 more horsepower than the original 2CV's O.o Sadly I missed out playing with the Royal Navy's fleet which had disappear a couple years before I got involved, they were primarily used as flight deck transport on Fleet and Commando carriers like Bulwark and Albion, utilised as well on land for reasonably fast transit of scouts or communications as the car could be carried in pairs from the carrier to the beachhead without straining the helicopters. I did see the British built 2CV's are somewhat sought out by collectors being built a bit more robust than their French cousins.

when I did an engine swap ( then a clutch I know I know why didn't I do both at the same time ) I found that standing on the front of the chassis and bouncing it then on the down bounce if you lifted you could lift an engine out and rest it where you stood for removal. And I am not a big guy it was just technique. They are cars you can fix by the roadside with a knife and fork as I once read.

Thanks for sharing your endeavours with us. I appreciate the wish to entertain, however, rule no. 1, when rebuilding a 2CV engine is : never, ever turn it. Rust from the manifold often falls into the combination chamber and it, as Im sure you know, ruins the piston and cylinder. If you take it apart gently you can sometimes save the pistons and cylinder. Looking forward to the next episode, thanks for sharing. Kind regards Thomas, certified méhari freak 😎❤️😊🤘🏼

Well.. there where no rust scales in the manifold... but you are right it happens.. But I have revived many 2cv engines and this is the first time this happens.. so yea its wise to take it apart before turning it, but very often it´s not needed. The safe thing to do would be as you describe.

Well, despite the issues with the piston rings, I think that engine seemed to be okay, of course that's just from an outside observation, goodness knows what's gone on inside the engine from standing so long, plus whatever it may have gone through in its' past life, worth a teardown at the very least, and at most, a rebuild would be fun to watch, cos despite all the years of vicariously living through others' videos on the ol' ducks, I've never seen a DIYer do a full 2CV engine rebuild... :D

Not with an engine like this one which seems to have been 20 years at the back of the garden... For this you need tho have a crankshaft in perfect condition (or new) and not only the piston but cylinders+ pistons because the cylinders cannot be overbore...i convert myself my 602cc (29hp, on 2cv6) engine, to 652cc (~35hp), and a carburetor from a Visa...
