I test drove the car last week. Being myself a fiat (diesel cars) driver for a very long time, I did feel that the ride is pretty decent but handling is not as good as in a Linea/Punto/Urban Cross, it's pliable. The engine isn't as powerful but it doesn't feel or behave underpowered even when climbing small flyover slopes with four adults on board. The car looks good externally and does have the road presence. What I didn't like is that the design and workmanship, is not what's expected from a European car - my 12-13 year old fiat cars feel premium and much more thoughtfully designed and sturdier by design. For example, the seat backs are made of thin plyboard, seat fabric is a turn-off, roof-liner is akin to a coarse jute cloth bag, workmanship and quality check at factory not up to the mark (I noticed the roof liner sort of hanging down and pressed the rivet holding it, and it travelled up by about 10-12 mm). Some safety features like the Brake Assist, TCS, engine protection plate, etc., are absent. Finally, I would have liked the top the line Max version to be not more than 12.5 lakhs on-road - but it exceeds 15 lakhs in Delhi. Now I am in a big dilemma - should I be buying versions of Virtus/Slavia/Nexon (diesel/Petrol) instead that come under 15 lakhs? Which one would be most optimal buy? Please advise.
Citroen is actually making Indians realize that other car makers are selling too many features that most of the people hardly use and they charge us a bomb for those gimmicks. It is time for us to realize that when we buy a car, we should focus on how it drives not what features it offers. Save money, wherever you can!

Claimed FE is over 18kmpl. But we expect it to hive around 12-14kmpl in the city. the 3-cylinder engine is more that up to the task for this car. Plus, the shorter gearing helps. @@NathanSubramaniwith a shorter final drive, chances of one lugging the engine around 1,500rpm reduce dramatically, even in the city. And once the turbo is spooled up, the 1.2 has good performance. Now whatever other engine they bring in, they will have to localized. To oocaliae a new ICE powertrain when BEVs are gaining importance and momentum, would be too much for too little. Also the reason Honda decided not to have the Hybrid on the Elevate. And straight to a BEV.

Also, question on engine & localization makes sense..and spot on. Surprised Honda didn't offer given they already have them in Indian roads. More than EV... I feel Plug-in Hybrid with good EV motor/battery would do a great option. Sadly no one offers that. Citreon offers a good plugin hybrid in European market ..wish we get such power train options than ...smart or strong hybrid etc.
Ertiga starts at 8.7L for the base variant as a 7seater. Given the C3 poor crash ratings and its based on that, wouldn't find it any better than an Ertiga. But, can this better an Ertiga given the same minimal features as Ertiga. It should undercut the Ertiga price when launched. Maruti Suzuki has better resale value, low maintenance cost and amazing 1.5L engine with smart hybrid. It suddenly feels so much for soo less. C3 aircross makes no sense even at 9.5L for base model.

They only make the 1.2 in India. The C5 diesel is imported. Putting an improved engine in a mass market car has issues beyond cost-effectiveness. We don't know if you have driven the C3 Aircross with this engine and still find it underpowered, but I would urge you not to go by engine capacity. I think the correct way to look at it would be th power and torque and where in the rpm range do these peak. Plus, the revised gearing. It might not make for a fantastic car to drive at 150kmph, but up to 120kmph, like we said in the video - it does not feel slow or sluggish. As of costs cutting vs profit margins - There's a target price an OEM must look at . a target price they feel customers will pay for their car. And then they work towards getting there by cutting down to bits they feel customers care about less. Imagine a Maruti at 1 cr with all the features and tech and performance and dynamics of a Merc, but would anyone buy it?

There is no sugar coating in our analysis at all. We have said that we expected the C3 Aircross to underwhelm because it uses the same powertrain from a smaller, lighter car. But Citroen engineers used a common trick to make that engine feel adequate enough, the C3 Aircross does not feel underpowered at all - it is not blazing quick, but it is not underpowered. As for the cost cutting, we expect Citroen to undercut its rivals with the strategy they have adopted. Offer more of space and comfort, while keeping features basic enough. The feel good factor is missing, but the features are there and they work.
