    Greave is usually just the front of the shin, think classical Greek or bronze age. Gaiters are the linen or leather fixings around the top of the boot partially or fully up the leg to prevent mud, water, and debris from getting into the boot while in the field (also: spatterdashes, fantastic word, thanks Wikipedia!).

    Not sure how comfortable I am airbrushing the yellow wash in so small areas, any suggestions on achieving a similar tone with a brush? Also, would it ruin the look if I did a regular zenithal (black + flat white as the other models here) rather than the brown prime?

  • @cultofpaint

    @cultofpaint

    10 ай бұрын

    It wont ruin it at all, but it'll give you a slightly different yellow. If you're going brush then to be honest don't worry about the zenithal. You are bringing in shading anyway. So just a nice bright basecoat and then layer your yellow over the top ( contrast yellows are very forgiving.)

    @@cultofpaint So the thing with those leg wraps on the new CoS, they have the length of the Puttee's, which normally are those like bandage leg wraps you see on historic infantry. Where as Spats are normally not as long in the leg, and go over the tops of the shoes, like you see on black tie dress shoes from the early 20thC. So they are long like the Puttee's, but their fastening style, and the bit that goes under the boot, and the part that goes over the top of the boot, has the appearance of Spats.

    This is quite a subjective question/opinion but I'll ask it anyway: Do you always paint pupils black? I find it a bit uncanny at this scale, perhaps a simple upper shade on the eyes or desaturated pupils (grey instread of black, stone blue instead of navy blue, etc) would still give them character while avoiding this eerie piercing look, because IRL we can't distinguish people's pupils/whites from 100m away (or whatever the on-scale distance between players and minis on the table is) - I think that's where my contention comes from.

  • @cultofpaint
