Citation Tips Don't Let Perfect Be the Enemy of Good

Nicole Dyer discusses citation tips and emphasizes that creating a decent citation is better than having no citation at all. She encourages researchers not to be paralyzed by striving for perfection. Dyer explains guidelines for punctuation in footnote/endnote citations and reference list citations. She suggests including additional relevant dates beyond just the publication date to provide context about the source's reliability. Dyer then analyzes a submitted online obituary citation. After reviewing the website to understand the source fully, she recommends various tweaks to improve the citation. Throughout, Dyer stresses focusing on capturing all the elements over agonizing over perfect punctuation.
