My hometown of Irving, TX has almost a couple dozen of those EOWS*612 sirens, except the tone here is a little higher.

They still do alert mode, but they don't do the Westminster Chimes anymore since they've replace the EOWS*612s in the Valley Ranch suburb of Irving with the 2001s.

It was actually having a hard time rotating period. When I was there a couple years ago, I saw it tested in the chimes mode (which happened to be the last time they did that I found out later) and it had a hard time rotating then.

Bob Evans. Apparently this was the 2nd time the sirens went off. The siren I was at was dead and I was pulling into Bob Evans when this one went off.

Electronic Outdoor Warning Siren EOWS

Nope, both the rotator motor speed and the tone generator's pitch are controlled by potentiometers throughout the control circuitry.

Ian I am sorry to ask this question but was this siren going off for a test or a actual tornado warning?

I was driving by a Federal Signal Thunderbolt 1000 with my windows up and the loudness of the blower alone was quite scary! I agree - it would probably be worse standing next to it!

Wednesday, usually at noon or a little after. It's right on the main drag at the old fire station. Can't miss it.

It has a Dual-tone tone generator.

For EOWS it is, for Federal Signal, and American Signal Corp, and the like, they use Attack exclusively.

what i mean is this: because those sirens are loud, won't you lose a bit of your hearing if you are not the required distance away and ouside without the proper audio protection?

They used to combine Alert and Attack modes but I am not sure what they do now.

Bucyrus, Ohio replaced these with 2001's just a few years ago.

do you know the difference between them? I heard that it has something to do with the wats of the speakers or somthing, but the person i asked wasn't sure either....there's a couple other EOWS sirens one of them is the 408 i believe...

what time and what day do they test?

Marengo, OH, has what I believe is an omnidirectional EOWS. It has two rows of horns that say "FS" in the middle. It makes a pleasing electronic sound. They use "HI-LO" for weekly tests. I'm not sure what the model number would be for that, maybe 812?

Has anyone ever seen or heard of any of the other EOWS sirens like the 1212?

they sound like thunderbolts. really this is strange. never have seen a siren like this one. so creepy. cool video thanks.

in simple... if you are under let's say for context a thunderbolt siren when it is turned on by the yellow control box below it or by a pc radio control, what will happen?

yeah the EOWS series consists of 612 812 408 1212

there are no solenoid dampers, these sirens are electonic. still sounds awesome though :)

youl hear the relays click inside and maby a little hum of the power going to the siren.

U know u just dont hear an alternate wail while in an accual storm anymore its sad not to metion most EOWS r gettin replaced which is rlly frustrating an i dont even have any sirens where i live so by da time i move some where dat does theyll be all gone :( god thats annoying

Well ya i just realized that EOWS tends to call "Attack " Wail. Most other companies use Attack.

You know, these aren't bad sirens. But the one in my town is a single tone and it whoops up and down. I wish someone would set it right so it sounds like a siren and not a children's toy.

That's using Whelen ESC-864 controls! Interesting.

Nope, Went to circleville june 22nd and it was replaced with either a Whelen vortex or 4004.

I went to see this siren in 2011 and it didn't go off

No reason actually. You know if it's possible I vould get someone to make a volume. But I would just use it as a bed. AND I would cut the power off. Maybe. :-) But i would want to lay the speakers flat. Sorry if I bothered you about. :-| It was just an idea.

Not only would it be MIGHTY UNCOMFORTABLE, heaven forbid if it went off. You'd be deaf for life. I think you should pass on it if the opportunity presents itself. Why the hell would you think of that anyways?
