Cinematic Studio Strings [Demo - Original Track]

Музыка

An original composition using the Cinematic Studio Strings library. This string library is part of a collection of orchestral libraries called the Cinematic Studio Series.
Cinematic Studio Strings was my first string library. I've since acquired a few others, like the very popular Spitfire Chamber Strings, but I always come back to this one. The seamless legato scripting is by far the best I've ever used and I tend to prefer the lush "romantic" sound of this library compared to others.
That being said, there is one little quirk you should be aware of: There is a slight delay from the point the note is triggered to when you actually hear a sound. That is a "feature" of the library that you can easily get around. Use a delay compensation with the following settings if you're experiencing difficulty lining up:
- Classic Legato: -125ms
- Slow Legato: -333ms
- Medium Legato: -250ms
- Fast Legato: -100ms
- Shorts: -60ms
Please feel free to leave a comment! I will get back to you.

Ivan Huor Music Nice! I've got to admit, not a big fan of the last few Labs instruments. Especially the last one. I guess I don't really have a use for it. But soft piano is one of my go to's definitely.

Great stuff. Those curves below the notes in the piano roll... are they simply tied to the volume of each instrument, or actually affect the velocity of the note?

  • @ivanhuormusic4589

Thank you! Those are "expression" automation curves which I can control via the mod wheel or manually with my mouse. Depending on where the curve is, it'll trigger the appropriate sample layer to match the desired volume. Feel free to ask me if you have any more questions. Take care!

This is a really great and beautiful composition my friend! I love how there are different themes, and you make great use of dynamics! I currently use the Symphony Series String Ensemble by Native Instruments and Audiobro, but I was thinking about picking up Cinematic Studio Strings since it's so flexible. Do you happen to know if it has a divisi feature, such as the Symphony Series strings? I really love the ability to divide up the sections (Violins I, Violins II, etc.), and it would be hard to live without. Anyway, great composition and keep up the good work!

Thank you for your comment! There is no divisi feature in this library. I have duplicated tracks in the past as a sort of workaround, but it's not nearly as convenient as having real divisi. Are you currently in the market for a different string library?

@@ivanhuormusic4589 Dang it! Cinematic Studio Strings seems like a gem in terms of string libraries, but the true divisi feature the Symphony Series String Ensemble is so useful! I'm looking for some good string and choir libraries right now. Mostly a flexible string library which has seamless and easy to use legato which you don't have to tweak the crap out of to sound good. As for a choir library: True divisi is preferred (but I know that's very rare), and nice legato transitions with staccatos is a must. Thanks for the reply. Any ideas for choir or string libraries?

@@lukechiocca1914 No choir libraries... yet! I have some experience with string libraries though: two ensemble string libraries (CSS, Spitfire Chamber Strings/SCS) and a few solo (CSSS, Spitfire Solo Strings, Bohemian, Joshua bell, Tina Guo.. yikes, I have way too many). While it's not fair to compare legato between ensemble and solo libraries, I can say I much prefer the legato on CSS over that of SCS; Their legato scripting is pure butter! If you're looking for hyper realism, CSS is probably not for you (lack of proper vibrato control is something that comes to mind). That being said, it's never bothered me personally! I pretty much never go for SCS despite it being way more feature rich. Anyways, thanks for your comments. I've been pretty out of it during Covid, so you are motivating me to finish my projects. Feel free to dm me over at VIC if you're on the forums there! I don't know why YT doesn't have dms...

@@ivanhuormusic4589 Yes, please do finish your projects and share them here my friend! Thank you for your insight into the libraries! I definitely noticed Cinematic Studio Strings had really nice legato! That sucks that there is no divisi and vibrato isn't amazing... having said that, vibrato control is never something I'm super critical of. I do not believe I have an account on the VIC forms (which website is this?).

@@lukechiocca1914 If you're still in the market, I'd highly suggest CSS. Took the plunge a little while ago and I could not be happier. The legato is beautiful, and the legato marcato patch is unbeatable for fast melody writing. Seamless fast legato with spiccato overlays. Trust me, not having divisi isn't a big deal. When you really need it, Symphony series is still there. If you like the warm Thomas Newman sort of sound though, CSS is perfect.

Hello Ivan! Congratulations on the video! I would like to know how you managed RAM memory. I saw that the byte values consumed in your project's CSS are much lower than the standard value. Can you give me some help? I'm using a Mac Mini M1 16GB of ram and I can't work with the CSS factory memory values.

Hi Alvaro - I used FabFilter Pro R with a 1.25s decay on the Shorts and a 2.5s or so decay for Longs. Mix is pretty low so it's not very noticeable! No reverb (unless you count the natural room reverb of the microphones) was used from the CSS library. Hope this helps!
