How come no one is noticing the severe lack of wendigo's? I thought that was cannon. This whole place should be covered in snow.

Part of the reason I didn't mention them is because EVERYONE is noticing the lack of windigos. It's probably the biggest ongoing discussion about G5. One theory is that they were killed off at the end of season 9. Another is that they can't exist without magic and now that magic is back we should see them return in the special/series. Basically, too much to condense to a simple sin.

This sort of questions can be easily answered by declaring all G4 references, well, references, since these elements don't lose their plot importance if replaced by something referenceless. Such as: legend of pony racial friendship heroes, some old stuff from the times of pony racial friendship, symbol of magic...

There's a story about that on FiMfiction where the Wendigos were dying off because there was so little strife left for them to feed on after the end of season 9. The Princesses helped them change so they could feed on love, like the Changelings. That would eventually backfire, as there'd be nothing stopping ponies from hating each other again.

The queen made the dungeon that nice because she knew she would end up there one day.

Well, Hitch kind of taught her something after her stunt at Canterlogic. He let her know that what she did was NOT okay. He knows her intentions are good, but her actions aren't acceptable. "You keep saying there's nothing to be afraid of. Well, prove it!" Makes sense because everyone has been trained to mistrust the other races their whole lives. A well-intentioned speech from the town kook isn't going to change that.

For me, the main problem of this movie is... I have spent more time wondering what happened between g4 and g5 than actually being interested in the movie. Seriously, what happened to the 5 immortal alicorns ? What happened to Discord ? What happened to Fluttershy who may or may not be a vampire ? If Celestia and Luna are gone, who rises the sun and moon every day ? G4 Equestria wouldn't have survived for 3 days with no magic at all !

Well, Twilight was given the job of raising sun and moon, and since it's official that Twilight won't outlive her friends... They're probably not alive anymore. But I do wonder about Flurry Heart and Discord. Since Flurry was a young adult in the last episode of G4, she could be alive, but we don't know how much time passed between G4 and G5. We'll have to wait for an official answer.

2:26 "Sunny abuses her friendship with Hitch to manipulate and deceive!" *YES!! EXACTLY!!* I see so many comments about Hitch being terrible to her when they talk after her little stunt. "I'm the last real friend you've got in this town. Do you really want to lose me too?" He was telling her "Hey, what you did is NOT okay, Sunny! You lied to me. I care about you, and I always will. But I will _not_ let you manipulate me like that!" He didn't handle the situation in the best way. Telling Sunny that her dad made up all of that "pony unity stuff" was out of line. But he has boundaries and a spine. Two things you don't see in many male characters.

The scariest part of this movie is how low equestrias population has gotten. This implies their may have been some brutal warfare that left unicorns close to extinction.

We've only really come across three cities in the entire region that used to be Equestria, so the population could just be spread out elsewhere, but if the civilizations are as far out as implied, populations aren't nearly as concentrated anymore

The rest of equesteria is either cut off or in ruins. I think its been confirmed ponyvilles gone. Also no cloudsdale. The pegasi live in canterlot, which looks nothing like the past canterlot and is s lot bigger. On the map of g5, you can see the trail to the crystal empire is broken and its left out. All of the g5 map locations are places that didn't have ponies living there much in the past, or are dramatically different to the past. You can also see clearly no ponyville and other locations. They did not even show locations outside of equesteria , which means the ponies don't know anything beyond the horizon anymore. So, yeah... whatever happened changed equesteris for hood.

Makes sense, considering how the effects of the ponies having no magic could turn them into madness, or maybe the rest of pony kind could be into hiding or imprisoned cause of a certain all-powerful villain maybe? Which gave me the speculation on how the Mane 6 could still be alive, maybe the villain just messed up reality and time and ended up making the modern ponies clueless and imprisoned the og ponies in some statue or some time loop and whatnot Also you cant deny that the lack of none pony creatures is also highly disturbing.

I... never considered how badly the sudden loss of magic would affect pegasi. Actually pretty scary

Yes! As much as I enjoyed this movie, the fact that Sunny basically gets her alicorn upgrade handed to her really bothers me. Before "Twighlight" became an alicorn, she had been shown to have exceptional magic skills and she worked extremely diligently to refine them; she had also been learning about friendship, making mistakes and recovering from them, and fighting off bad guys for three whole seasons. We saw her and her friends grow up to the task. In later seasons, we also saw her not being good enough to replace Princess Celestia just yet and learning some more before actually becoming the reign of Equestria. The Elements of Harmony were also really well established and made it clear that all 6 of the friends are equally important for friendship magic to work. Sunny, on the other hand, had no reason to become the sole alicorn in the group. She didn't do an ounce more than her friends to accomplish the mission and she didn't grow as a person. In fact, Izzy stepped out of her comfort zone much further than Sunny did by actually visiting earth ponies. Hitch was a much better leader who had the ability to think quickly and who actually weighed the risks of the mission. Sunny wasn't even particularly skilled, she didn't really work hard, she was blissfully unaware of other ponies, and she was clueless throughout the entire movie - it was wild guessing and dumb luck all along. She only became an alicorn because she "believed" or something - which everyone else did.

To me it makes sense, after all she went and tried as best as she could to help everyone and make magic appears again. She is the one that wanted everyone to be reunited too as she believed that twilight and her friends actually existed. As well as the father knowing everything, he might told sunny a lot about the old era

While I do agree with you, don't think we should put a full soul set judgment on Sunny just yet. Remember, there is a series they're making to the movie. And she might improve in her character development then. Plus I don't think the wings and horn are permanent, sense they are see-through and magic and all. Maybe they're pre-set wings until she actually earns her real wings and horn. We don't know. We'll just have to wait and see.

To be fair, magic has always been though in the MLP world as something that Pegasi and especially Unicorns have or had. Earth Ponies do have magic, but we've never been able to determine how that manifests specifically, again leading to the assumption that Earth Ponies have no magic.

The Funny thing about Phyliss's line "How do you suggest that we defend ourselves? With Hugs and Cupcakes?" Is that Pinkie flattened three of the most powerful villains Equestria had ever seen with a giant cupcake, so it's not so far fetched.

The problem with this theory is that the stone was destroyed at the end of Forgotten Friendship.

Bigger one still: Why no Windigoes?

I did ovrall enjoy the movie but gosh it bothers me how very much Sunny is like "WOULDN'T IT BE SO COOL TO HAVE FRIENDS WHO CAN FLY? I don't have any ambitions or goals for myself, personally, I just want to be surrounded by people who are innately talented and have physical abilities that I don't have. That's healthy!" And every time everyone else is like "wouldn't giving magic powers back to people who consider us enemies actually be a very bad thing?" she's like :) lalala I can't hear you. The earth ponies truly get the short end of the stick... They don't get any magic powers or anything back, as opposed to the unicorns and pegasi. In G4 at least it was always hyped up how earth ponies worked the land and made food for everyone, how they were strong and resilient in ways that pegasi and unicorns weren't and this is where they had their own special and equal value... But we don't really see that in this movie at all.

G4: the unicorns, pegasi and earth ponies working together to survive after Equestria was discovered and also because before it was found, they suffered a lot because of the Windigos G5: Basically Hearth's Warming Eve except there's no magic, no Windigos, no overall ruler and yet they're still surviving? This is what confused me the most whenever I was watching the movie which made me lose interest in the movie altogether 💀

Tbh my biggest problem with the movie (and to be clear, I did enjoy it a great deal as a whole) is that Sunny's revelation comes pretty much out of nowhere. There's no "spark" moment like when Twilight heard her new friends coming to back her up; we go from the elements breaking, narratively speaking, straight to the lecture with no reason for her to have suddenly figured all this out. Unless part of the lighthouse hit her in the head and knocked it loose, maybe.

I think that moment is less about any "spark" and more just about finally being out of options. Up to this point Sunny had thought magic would be the solution to all their problems. After having tried the quick fix twice now to no avail, however, she just falls back on the only thing she has left, her own steadfast belief that the different kinds of ponies are all supposed to live together as friends. The fact her impassioned speech turns out to be the catalyst that finally triggers the crystals is more incidental.

@@alexatkin:. Indeed, though as to question of where these new crystals came from there's no reason for us to expect immediate answers. For three whole seasons of G4 the elements of harmony where just mysterious artifacts of power with unkown origins before the tree of harmony was introduced. Where that came from was then just as much a mystery until yet a later season when it was revealed the pillars of harmony, the predasesors to Twilight and friends, had planted those "seeds".

I'm still stuck on the fact that they showed Hitch being a natural dancer- like just vibin to the music wherever he is- so when Sunny was losing at the DDR game I assumed he'd step forward and it would be an arc in his character where he's doing something to help her in her mission, even if he doesn't agree with it- and nope. instead she just gets lucky with the hedgehogs? I thought that's where all his dancing scenes were building up to, but instead they were just pointless filler? why?

Yeah, it would be cool if joining the crystals triggered a hologram of Twilight (with or without her friends) to deliver a recorded message to the new generation. They could even have had the hologram look directly at Sunny, like a passing of the torch moment, and leave it ambiguous whether it was a coincidence or whether the hologram is somehow alive and aware of her (it's magic, after all). But it doesn't look like they're willing to lean on G4 that much, despite all the little references in the movie.

@@yondaime500 Yeah, it was a real pity they didn't do that. Honestly, G4 is a great foundation to lean on, as it gives you a lot of history and background lore and mystery for writers to work off of. The movie in particular could've really done with that to bookend the themes established in the beginning. Sadly, they instead made the G4 elements background fluff, not giving it any real substance in helping the M5.

@@vanivanov9571 We can always hope that they introduce more G4 concepts in the series. They sort of made Sunny really naive in the movie. Her dad knew a lot more about ancient Equestria, but the only things she internalized are "All ponies are meant to be friends" and "It would be great to have a friend who can fly or make stuff float", which is missing the point entirely. But they still needed her to succeed and get that happy ending. Maybe they meant to make her a sort of blank slate, to expand the lore as her character develops, but the movie was too short for that. The problem is that the movie is the only thing we will have to judge G5 on for almost a year, so that leaves a lot of time to overthink and be upset about these shortcomings. And to make matters worse, the movie ending really feels like an ending rather than a beginning (unlike the G4 pilot), so we don't have that many hints for what comes next.

​@@yondaime500 Hopefully they do. Still, tragic they didn't improve the movie just a little more, and make it a classic. Something great they could've done, is had the Mane 5 regaining their magic in bursts throughout their journey, and they always happen to have the crystals with them when it happens. Zipp could fly to save Pipp/someone during a storm on the mountains (large storms should be a theme, since the world lost its magic); Pipp could've been the one to participate in the dance (has difficulty, since she's used to dancing by wire), and after encouragement from her friends, her cutiemark activates and she dances up a storm, only to end up flying in excitement; Izzy would see the unicorns and pegasi to leave her friends alone, seeing them being captured, and end up zapping them--gently levitating her friends over to her. You can top this off with the unicorns and pegasi agreeing to let them join the crystals, with the implication there'll be war the moment they do. After the crystals fail to restore magic, the factions decide that only the pony holding the crystal can use it, and so they battle for the crystals. In the end, the unicorns get the pegasus crystal, and the pegasi get the unicorn crystal... and they refuse to trust each other enough to trade. The two groups would separate, the implication being a war for the crystals is about to start. Would've made for some good scenes, and a stronger twist when it turned out it was happenstance.

I think my biggest gripe with this movie was the whole scene with Sunny combining the Unicorn and Pegasus Crystals and thinking it would work. You have two crystals representing two pony races; the only logical conclusion is that there's also an Earth Pony Crystal, especially since there's a big gaping hole in the middle. Felt like the movie built up that anticipation and made the mood all depressed afterwards for pretty much no reason.

One thing that wasn't mentioned in this sin count is how was the crystals activated so easily? Sunny didn't necessarily bring all the pony populations together, just a small handful of them who were conveniently present at the time. The vast majority of ponies across the land are still in their cities hissing about the other tribes.

Exactly! I feel like G5 was just a literal copy of G4, which made them a lot less interesting than what I expected. They basically just changed their appearances but even then, they looked similar enough to the older characters. Izzy has curly hair, and is very good at crafting things just like Pinkie Pie. Zipp has rainbow-colored hair, just like Rainbow Dash, etc.

They should've had like three main friends; one an earth pony, the other a pegasus, and the last a unicorn. It would've been a fun, creative, idea if each character had a mixed personality of two of the main six. For example, say the pegasus was similar/a mix of Twilight and Pinkie. The unicorn a mix of Fluttershy and Rarity, and the earth pony a mix of Applejack and Rainbow Dash? Just to set an example-

While in front of the Maretime Bay cinema makes me suspicious because this tells us that possibly the same types of movies are being shown in other lands. So does this means that trade between the races happen despite them hating one another? Just a thought

Not really. Let's not forget that she has the same situational 'un-awareness' as Pinkie Pie, as evident from her thinking everyone was playing hide and seek as they ran in terror. She's probably equally unaware that each culture has it's own set of movies, which explains why she 'hasn't seen this one'. I highly doubt that any unicorns have seen the 'Horns' movie, either.

Seeing how Terminaticorn is anti-unicorn. I’m guessing it’s because that movie doesn’t exist in Bridlewood.

I feel like this movie is a perfect example of a story with a ton of flaws which still manages to be very enjoyable. Like, I get all of the criticisms, but it’s still super fun to watch. I imagine if the movie was a little longer they could’ve improved it somewhat, and I’m hopeful that the series will be good.

@@itzzausty it’s not even just the storytelling that I have a problem with, it’s *technically* a sequel, but they completely threw everything the original show had, all the progress, all the world building, right into the trash, the fact that everyone in it is still alive with all their fighting to begin with is a major flaw. Why did they have to make the story all about the three races not getting along? The original show *already* had their own explanation as to *why* they shouldn’t fight, it wasn’t about ponies vs ponies anymore, it’s ponies vs other animals, which they already resolved in the end. Which is another plot hole, where tf are other races? There is *literally* no point for this movie to exist other than purely out of greed for money

Despite all the problems when you really start to think about how things work in this world, it's still a pretty enjoyable movie. But yeah, some things are pretty contrived. The crystals not working, even when all three were together, was pretty obvious. It was always going to be something with the ponies themselves, not the crystals. But still, since this is the same world as G4 just forever later, what are they and why do they exist? There's so much this movie doesn't answer that's probably being saved for the show, and I both hate and like it.

1:52-1:58 even more impressive is that the balloon animal she made requires two different types of balloons(a 260 and 160) when there was only one type for balloon animals(though some balloon animals do use round balloons, but that's not one of them) and if she had taken some balloons from those we see, she was able to do so with it fully inflated. If not, it's impressive she inflated it to the perfect amount and made said animal in record time. Yes, I make balloon animals, how could you tell?

Not a sin, but you can see the result of the original deal with Paramount for the release of the movie; ZBS being a blatant parody of CBS as well as the logo being damn near identical

I was literally shouting during the stained glass bit and the first crystal merge attempt that they NEED A THIRD CRYSTAL. Even if the crystals didn't do anything, they were still missing one, and it's so painstakingly obvious! Like there's three pony races, and the all KNEW that, and they think there's crystals for only two of them? You cannot seriously expect me to believe them to be THAT dense....

That one kind of makes sense. Princes in real life usually have military training, which naturally includes survival skills. Also, the pegasi have always been a "mighty tribe of warriors" (in the words of Commander Hurricane) and Zipp looks like she wants to keep those roots alive. She likely spends as much time in the wild as she can get away with.

Well, you do have to consider that, like in Celestia and Luna's case, she's the exact opposite of her sister. She prefers sneaking away from her 'princessing' when possible, is never seen doing stage performances and social media stuff, enjoys exploring abandoned places, is a parkor/gymnastics buff, etc. The thought of her going on solo 'survivalist' camping trips when no one is looking is not outside the realm of possibility. I like to think of Zipp as 1 teaspoon of princess combined with a 1 lb tub with 3/4th-Apple Jack and 1/4-Rainbow Dash.

I've been waiting for this!! Was open to the movie, but was personally (jokingly) offended at how our Mane Six's hard work just...fell apart to lead to this world. Like Equestria before the Windigos. I enjoyed the songs more than I expected and the humor, as well as the characters. The plot was a bit...ehhh. But an enjoyable, fun movie. I, uh... don't feel Sunny should be an alicorn now though.

If the world is an alternate timeline like seen with Starlight, it might be that issue that fate had to change, one where those that were originally meant to set the world on a harmonious path are different(a great example is the main timeline we see, where it's not the great legends from across the world or the embodiments of the sun and moon that bring unity amongst most sapient life, but a group of 6 friends)

I have to agree with this on every front. Twilight and her friends have fought extremely hard to bring and hold equestria together, and then it all falls apart the instant the land doesn't have an alicorn princess? bull.

I still prefer G4 but I liked this movie quite a lot, and I hope they keep this 3D design in the later series, or like they did with How to train your dragon...make it 3D but make it less visualized

@@pcdeltalink036 Yeah, _that_ was petty. That being said, bigotry itself is petty, so it's just par for the course. Alphabittle was so used to winning that he couldn't accept a loss, and of course, having been the one to egotistically give his opponent the edge, he couldn't retroactively take back the alteration of the standard rules. So when Sunny's fake horn came off, he saw an opportunity to default the situation. Sure, technically it's not a unicorn-only cafe. The only reason unicorns are the only patrons are because of the keep out signs around Bridlewood and the attitude the unicorns would have toward non-unicorns. So while not technically forbidden, what unicorn would support the non-unicorn who pretended to be one of them over the one who was actually their kind?

I only wish there was a bigger element of how there’s a sort of “magic” in the earth ponies as well. Like, that was the whole point of the climax, about how there’s a third earth pony-crystal, but after that plan doesn’t work that whole thought gets abandoned entirely and Sunny turns into an alicorn because apparently there’s nothing magical about earth ponies. At least in G4, even though it wasn’t as clear as “flying” or “telekinesis,” they still tried to credit earth ponies with being stronger and better at farm work. There’s none of that uniqueness for earth ponies in this film.

Unless I read it from a false source or misremember it, there was a mention that all races would have proper magic(I'm guessing something more notable or actively used as earth ponies already had magic, just by far the most passive magic from the three races)

there’s also a short post (initial) credit scene that shows a young earth pony’s hoofprints starting to glow green, indicating that the earth ponies did get their magic, but i do agree that i wish they would have shown it in the movie itself…

aw you missed the part where Pipp goes to the dungeon for the content and talks about only royals can fly, where she puts her phone away in her wings, proceeds to open her wings and flap them about with no phone in sight, then have the phone vibrate and be pulled back out of the wing

I feel like they could have had more in this movie. I just don't feel like after gen 4, this gen would be so, well, "racist" lol. And where is Twilight? If she was a alicorn wouldn't she still be around? And what about Celestia? Luna? Cadence? Flurry Heart? Discord? And why was the villain, not a actual villain?? I wish we had some REAL threat. Here is my thought on a better plot. After gen 4, (we are gonna stick with them hating each other) Sunny does her whole song in the beginning, goes to the convention, and does her whole speech. Then discouraged she leaves her home to venture off on her own and prove them wrong. (Instead of her best friend tryna arrest her i feel he should have been looking for her, worried for her sake.) Sunny finds Izzy in the woods, they become friends and make a plan to make peace with the unicorns and earth ponies before heading to the peagus to make peace with them too. While they do that, some kind of threat should be starting. Like a villain from the original gen 4 show. Or maybe someone new? Maybe even Grogar? Then the plot can go from their. At the end it should be all the ponies coming together to stop the villain and save everyone. And then at the end becoming closer then ever. There was so much potential in this movie!! I just wished it had carrie out better. But!! I do like the movie. LIKE. It's not my favorite. Tbh i would take gen 4s movie anytime over this one. No hate! Just an opinion. Lmk what you think.

Could also add that izzy is in the woods and was cast out by the others for being different, or some other reason, just give izzy a real reason to leave instead of her venturing into a town she knows wouldn’t be stoked about her arrival? I would think if the main villain was grogar we could even have him reveal that he tore the ponies apart somehow or stole their magic the way tirek did. Magic fading because friendship faded makes no sense because we know friendship has faded MANY times before even across the pony racial lines and magic never disappeared. Maybe zip doesn’t actually want to help them but when she’s revealed to be a fake and is now on the run, she hesitantly follows them and learns about friendship. This way she doesn’t randomly have an issue with being a fake flier.

I’m keen to believe this movie takes place in a completely different continuity than the fourth generation. That’s why no characters from the fourth generation appears, outside of the beginning. Lao, it was never proven that Alicorns are immortal.

6:30 I'd say that not wanting to live a lie is a pretty relatable sentiment, that doesn't really need an explanation. In any case, it's funny how you say that all main characters have to be flawlessly virtuous, but at the end you say that Sunny achieved her goals through deception and theft. In fact, Zipp herself decided to backstab her own family based on a wild guess from a pony she'd just met. The problem is not that they don't take morally questionable actions, or that they do, but that they get away with it. Sunny at least throws a halfhearted apology to Queen Haven and Alphabittle, but it sounds like she's mostly sorry that her plan didn't work. Zipp doesn't even do that.

The sunny thing is different because they treat her theft as flawlessly virtuous because she’s in the right. Like you said, she gets away with it. Zip is also seen as virtuous because she chose friendship over “toxic” family members. (Also no, I wouldn’t say “not wanting to live a lie” means you’re ok with ruining your sister’s event to steal from your mother. The issue is she has no reason to ‘not want to live a lie’ she doesn’t talk to anyone but her family who treat it as a good thing. All of the town believe it’s a good thing, so Where would she get the idea that it’s bad to be fake?)

The trip making the hamster wheel spin faster made Sunny win... that actually makes a lot of sense!

When I saw how hitch had a way with animals, I totally thought that magic would somehow still be around and the plot of the movie would be rediscovering the magic within, not that it had actually gone away entirely lol

I was wondering, after the all types magic was restored in equestria doesn't that mean that ALL types of magical creatures like the windigos, kirins, dragons, and others got their magic back too?

I fr hate how Sunny just became a alicorn so quickly, and for some dumb reasons. Twilight saved Equestria many times, had lessons, took probably MOONS for Twilight to become a alicorn, then Sunny over here becoming a Alicorn in an hour.

Not to say that this movie wasn't good, the animation is beautiful and the character designs are cool, but the writing was lackluster for a My Little Pony movie, especially the ending where Sunny is rewarded with alicorn status for her bad behaviour and suffered no consequences.

frankly, i would have liked it a lot better if we saw the franchise continue with the Cutie Mark Crusaders and Cozy Glow. It would have made a lot more sense (as we saw with Diamond Tiara, cutie mark interpretation can literally create a major antagonist), and been WAY more interesting (and gotten WAY more moral lessons in)

It's just that now that his toy truck is broken and his army is disbanded, he's back to being the same pathetic pony he was at the beginning, so he's looking for someone to hide behind. The movie makes a point to inform us that he learned absolutely nothing from the whole experience.

@@jasonknight1825 Without someone or something to defend him, he's just not brave enough to do that. It's more surprising that he didn't just run away immediately. There is a deleted scene where he does try to run away, then Izzy grabs him with her magic and holds him upside down. The director thought this would kill the mood and the message of the scene. So I guess Littleshy's sin is valid anyway.

Actually, I noticed the crystal began to shine only when Sprout joined to the others before Sunny. So, considering that scene seemed to work in a "the rulers of the respective races is coming around so symbolically all of them are coming around", I thought "uh, so the magic recognized Sprout as temporary ruler at least at 50%"

Getting the magical crystals was super easy, barely an inconvenience.

I have SO many questions about this movie rn. did all the other races die out? Where’s the twilight? Isn’t she immortal? Where’s cadence? Flurry heart? At the least there had to be flurry heart, she’s the youngest it would’ve made sense for her to live this long if alicorns don’t live forever! Not to mention, how tf are they all still alive?? The show literally had an arc where all the magic was stolen and everyone absolutely looked to be at the brink of death despite the fact that it lasted for, what, three days? Even the earth ponies, they couldn’t grow food, wouldn’t everyone starve by now? Also, with all this animosity, why are the windigos not there, making the entire land a frozen wasteland? These are just a few that don’t even have anything to do with the movie, there are a billion other questions I can pull up looking back at the show that would question this movie and prove this is a fanfiction with a budget and animation. Sorry that I’m angry, I grew up with mlp, and this wouldn’t be the first time a show or movie I find nostalgic has a disrespectful sequel, like atla with fricking Korra, if you enjoy Korra as a show, fine, but you can’t argue the fact that DOESNT follow up with rules of the universe of its predecessor (where are the turtle ducks?! 😭). For the love of god, watch the original before making a continuation!

It just happened so fast that I forgot how to feel emotional or excited at the end of the movie like miss gurl was able to restore magic in probably less than a week while miss Twilight took years and had to fight baddies and go through all sorts of situations to understand friendship and become a ruler while miss Sunny just had enough with ponies being racist to other ponies that she decided to fix the whole thing with some random unicorn who has an iq of a toddler like that girl could've stab u with her horn + the whole movie feels like any other movie that has a protagonist that acts like they were born to become a hero or something but in horses form, honestly tho I could complain and ask questions all day but I would probably end up making a 5000 word essay

2:45 I hate how much this scene annoys me. Every machine that could be dangerous, especially automatic one, has a big, red, emergency button for situations like this. They even have them on the outside of the unicorn cages, so why not on the control panel for this automated process that would be nice to stop prematurely in case something goes wrong?

Forgot to include a sin for the amount of times they circled the same section of Maretime Bay when Sunny was skating and when she tried to help lead Izzy away. Swear she passed the food truck about 10 times. 🤦‍♂️

indeed. I would have loved to debate those characters. "Are we supposed to defend ourselves with hugs and cupcakes?" "What's the threat?" "Pegasi and unicorns! They'll fry their brains!" "Citation is needed, scientist. Have you met a pegasus or unicorn?" "No.. but we have-" "Gotta cut you off there. I asked a yes or no question, and it was a no. Any evidence that lacks experience, therefore, is only speculation or theory. A hypothesis, if you will. I have a hypothesis that for at least the next one hundred years, daily, one pony will suffer in some way. The only way to prove it is to test it, and see. Let's at least talk with one of each race. Who knows, maybe the average inability to conform to established rules of testing every hypothesis is also the same in their cultures."

Ah yes, i've been looking forward to this masterpiece. Edit: Not that i hated the movie, it was okay. These videos are just entertaining.

I literally JUST finally got to watching the Movie this past Wednesday, having no idea that you'd be making this video to be! Now I have two reasons (along many others) that I finally got to watching the Movie the other day; one because I LOVED it (It wasn't "absolutely" incredible at a 10/10, but I did love it and give it around an 8.5+/10), and that I just got to watching several days before your video, having no idea at all that this was something you've had in the works. I LOVE that the songs in the Movie have the FiM feel to them, LOVE the hilarity in the Movie/amount of times I laughed, I love the references/calls to FiM and the parallels I saw to FiM (and even a couple of parallels to Equestria Girls) and characters/the Mane 6 with the New characters in this Movie, and I also enjoyed speculating about stuff while watching the Movie based on my knowledge of FiM. I also definitely picked up on some Sins while watching the Movie, but don't remember any offhand without having to rethink about events in the Movie and such. I also REALLY love all the Pop Culture references in the Movie, such as them parodying T-Mobile and CBS, and I think that the place in the Movie with the Pegasi is supposed to be a knockoff of New York Times Square, and I LOVED that too.

Movies like this remind me of an old insight that refers to writers: "There's many a bestseller that could have been prevented by a good writing teacher."

This movie feels so disconnected from G4 and all of MLP for that matter How much time has past for ponies to forget all that twilight and her friends have done It also makes so many questions as well that it feels like the story was mostly half baked and the writers were told to base it off of G4 Some questions I had were: Where are the wendigo’s? Why is Twilight gone? Alicorns seem to live for a long time. Since Twilight is gone how long has it really been for her to potentially die? Where are the other creatures like Dragons, changelings, yaks, griffins, and hippogriff/ seaponies? Why are we just hearing about the pony crystals? If they were so important why haven’t we ever heard of them at all? G5 makes so many plot holes in an attempt to pick up where G4 left off It would have been better if it just was a new take on the world of MLP or an alternate universe It caring on could have worked too if it wasn’t for the fact that we have no understanding of why the three tribes split up (again…) Maybe in the show it will be explained but I don’t have high hopes

Sprout nearly kills two ponies and destroys Sunny's ancestral home and not only is he not imprisoned, his mommy doesn't even have it in her to say "no, you were not a good sheriff." I have no dings left in me after that one.

You know, villains in FiM may have often been forgiven too easily, but at least we _saw_ the ponies forgiving them.

@@Corrector1 The villains that were forgiven showed remorse and a desire to change. Those that did NOT show remorse were turned to stone or outright killed. Sprout doesn't deserve forgiveness. Not only does he not realize he did a bad, he had the gal to ask his mommy if he was a good Sheriff. I hate Sprout and all he stands for. There are too many people just like him IRL.

@@SilverSpoonRiche Wrong. Discord was given the chance to change despite not showing any redeeming qualities in his first appearance. He even betrayed them once and only came back to them once he realized that he wouldn't be getting what he wanted. Also remember that Twilight reached out to Tempest before she actually did anything to suggest that she could be a better person.

​@@Corrector1 Tempest ended up saving Twilight's life and killing The Storm King. Discord was a mistake. A HUGE mistake. It was the spoiler that Grogar was Discord the whole time that made me quit the show with just 5 episodes left. I have no respect for Discord. You are absolutely right. All three Princesses were fools to trust him. Just as Sunny will be a fool if she trusts Sprout.

@@SilverSpoonRiche the plot twist of Discord being Grogar honestly made me SO freaking mad. Cause I’d come to love and respect Discord, and seeing him do something so blatantly evil as recruiting four powerful villains for a reason as stupid as making Twilight look ‘cool’ or ‘powerful’ made me want to punch him. And not just that, he actually then gets a say in how to punish the villains at the end of the series, when HE was the one who recruited them and endangered everyone in the first place!

@@Cantersoft I've never understood the theme song hate. Sure its cheesy, but some of the G4 songs are much worse and not hated the same. I almost never became a fan of the show because I HATED Giggle at the Ghosties, ALL the songs made me cringe at first yet I love most of them now. I've always been someone who gets really attatched to theme songs, get huge nostalgia over them and usually if they change them it spoils the mood for me when watching the show. Though the slight change during G4 was subtle enough to not do that for me.

It is forever my head canon that Izzy is Pinkie's descendent.

I must sin you for calling out the shipping bait scene between Izzy/Sunny, but completely missing the one between Izzy/Zipp. No seriously, rewatch the scene where Zipp comes to visit them in the dungeon. Izzy excitedly trips over her own words trying to figure out what title of address to use. Then when introducing herself she slowly enunciates her own name like she was trying to make an impression while flashing some of the cutest bedroom eyes.

I sincerely hope the unanswered questions are setup for the series and not just "Gotta establish setting and characters fast." We'll see down the line.

I love the irony of this movie's premise in relation to how Gen 4 ended. Chrysalis manipulated all the pony tribes to turn against each other based on petty biases, forcing Twilight's students to go around and proverbially slap some sense into them all, and in the end, they all came together for the common good and realised that they were better off united rather than separated. And now, a thousand years later (give or take), the tribes are all split up and separated again based on biases and misinformation, inferring that ponykind either forgot their history, or didn't even bother to record it in the history books, which means that ponykind will inevitably f*ck itself up like this millennium after millennium in an endless cycle of learning nothing from and/or disregarding their past mistakes. Just like humanity! ...I'm not joking about that last part.

Phyllis told Toots and Sweets to turn the demo off before Hitch did, so clearly she knew there was an override of some kind. That makes sense given she's the face of Canterlogic. Given the look of the red switch on the side of Sweets' control console, it's a standard on/off switch where the on position would be marked with a line and the off with a circle (or is that the other way around?). Did Sweets forget in the panic of the situation? Or was he pretending to not know how to turn it off out of some petty desire to have Sunny humiliated?

@@82dorrin I don't doubt that. Phyllis was all about looking out for her own kind in her misguided way, and at the end of the day Sunny is counted among them.

The mystery of their magnetic hooves is the only flaw I'm unwilling to forgive. In G4, the fact they could somehow grip things didn't bother me because of the cartoony, marshmallow-y look. But in the film, with realistic looking hooves, it looks so weird. They straight up pick things up without any fingers. How??

I guess that considering even without magic pegasi still have perfectly trained armed forces and unicorns have what can basically be knives on their heads they're less afraid to actually confront each other compared to the sheep-level cowardice of most of Maretime Bay's earth ponies. also can we just talk about how it seems everypony that isn't a mane character has basically the same personality depending on their pony type? the earth ponies are all too scared to actually *harm* the other races and would rather run, the pegasi are all "OHMIGOD DA ROYALTY" until they all decide they want the queen and princesses dead when the lie's revealed, and the unicorns are all the stereotypical emo.

There's also the fact that there's no dragons, no Kiren/Nerik, no griffins, no hippogriffs, it's just ponies races at war with each other for no reason.

Good point. That was always a hugely baffling mystery to me whenever I watched My Little Pony: A New Generation. Perhaps it was most obvious at the beginning when Spike did not get to appear with Mane Six ponies.

I'm surprised there's no sin for Alphabittle going from a cute yellow mare in G3 to a gruff old unicorn in G5

Been looking forward to this! I honestly loved the movie and I can't wait to see what G5 has in store with the special and the TV show coming (hopefully) next year.

something i found pretty unsatisfying was how the pacing was, it felt kinda rushed and just plot convenience everywhere lol but yes an amazing movie!

Like Sunny and Izzy comes across royal Pegasus sisters and one of them gets angry bc she’s not popular anymore and a few minutes later she’s like “This earth pony stole my mom’s crown and exposed us but ima go w them anyways and support Sunny and be her best friend even though we just met while they were dangerous prisoners and trying to break into our city” They probably didn’t want to make it 2 or 3 hours long but come on now💀

Another enjoyable and awesome Cinemare Sins vid as always Littleshy, this one was definitely worth the wait the G5 movie may have it's ups and downs like all movies do but it's still a good one to watch!!!

Netflix can never convince me that even with the pegasi's aerodynamically correct set of wings, they can only fly with magic.

@@Doriburu8380 It's a bit strange as while the draining of magic didn't disable flight, it also didn't undo any fusing from a manticore or chimera, so the world's specifics might be what allows flight

Finally somebody talked about the absurd power up sunny had in 1 hour in a half that took twilight 3 seasons

The world should have standardized on type-K outlets. We need more smiles.

For those wondering why the movie didn't answer certain questions and such: In a recent interview the director said they hadn't set in stone yet why the three groups went their separate ways, and the lack of magic for som long is why we don't see any magical creatures aside from the ponies. Since there's a another special and a series coming out next year, it was really smart of them to not set everything in stone and to not answer every question in this new movie. It really allows for the show writers to have plenty of room to develop a story the way they want and not be boxed in. (The director of the movie isn't working on the series)

It's not smart because it leaves the new generation with a weak foundation. It also undermines the movie itself because the question of what happened is too distracting. There's not even any guarantee that the show will dive into what happened, and the fact that such important questions weren't worked out from the start isn't a good sign.

@@Corrector1 Honestly became a question of what viewers outside those that had previous knowledge of this franchise found intriguing enough to continue being interesting(there's certainly some interest in how an individual uncovers the world of precursors if Horizon is any indication of that)

Hmm, I feel like a lot of these sins aren't really valid or are actually things I believe are _strengths_ of the movie - but I suppose it's been a while since I've watched Cinemare Sins, so the series might always have been like this. I dunno; it feels a little more mean-spirited than I remember.

So I'm not alone! I was surprised when I first watched it at how mean spirited the criticism seemed. Thought I'd rewatch it tonight, thinking I might've been to much in the hype of the movie when I first watched the video, but it felt even more mean-spirited actually. I felt more like watching Cinema Sin than Cinemare Sin. But nobody was pointing anything of the sort so I was thinking it was just me. Some critisism seems in bad faith, or are easily explained. And, as you say, other seems to me like strenghs. And the video didn't even adress how the movie built a mystery to never give an answer, which would have been... like, THE sin?

i actually love this movie. for a modern My Little Pony movie, it feel like a really good Barbie movie

My biggest problem with this movie was that Sunny became an Alicorn.Not why, but how:so you can say that she was the"bridge"for all of them to become friends, but when the crystals didn't fuse, she was the first that gave up.plus, Izzy believed in "friends from other species"also, and at some points, you can say she had more motivation than Sunny, yet Sunny is portrayed as the best to become an Alicorn.

In most movies, I don’t think there’s a need for a ‘how’ when the protagonist/main character gets an upgrade. It’s just because they ARE the main character, therefore they get whatever prize it is for their ‘effort’.

Also when sunny was making the ballon her roller skate disappears off her hoof when she gives it to the little filly

i used to watch your content from like 2013-2015. i've only occasionally stopped by your channel a few times since then but im glad to see that you're still making new content. keep up the great work!

I really liked this movie but something just seemed off, I’m not sure, it’s not that it’s 3D either because I actually quite like the change , don’t get me wrong I’ll miss the 2d but the 3D is a welcome change

This is why i even made my own lore for the new generation, its called “My Little Pony, Restore the Harmony” lol Its about, Twilight soon becomes the rules and actually did a really good jobs but then she slowly saw each of her friends died from old ages, Twilight “light” or “happiness” went away making her not immortal anymore *And then she died when she reached the age 1500.* Equestrian then slowly falls into chaos when there is no rulers anymore, they tried to contact the other princess but they just mysteriously disappeared. Then they all open a meeting and tried to solve this current problem They then decided each creature will have their own rulers without being a alicorn, they thought the problem got solved. But not everyone is good, they used their power for their own stuff and making the situation worse, Equestrians been dealing with this for a long time Betrayal, villains,...the “dark” stuff soon to grow all over Equestria so nobody want to make friends with each other or anything like that anymore, and if they do, they’re only using them or faking it Until now, where the modern technology exists, The “reborned” Twilight been keep dreaming abt stuff like “her pass self(which she didn’t know it was her), her friends, the alicorn,..” the dream been repeating for weeks and she start to does some research about it or whatever(idk my English is not good) Alicorn does not exist in the nowadays making ppl thinks thats its just some kind of legends but Twilight believes they do, and then she goes on aventura and met her pass life friends P/s: The nowadays separate each kind of creature, like- earthponies, unicorn, pegasus can not or they hate each other, but her friends or those ponies Twilight found on her aventura still tries to make friends with her but not to use her or betray her Which make her feels weird but she soonly accepts their friendship and they actually becomes friends, and their story goes on

An important sin you didn’t cover would probably be the fact that Hitch asked Sprout to come with him to find Sunny, but Sprout declined out of fear. Sprout then becomes the villain out of spite because Hitch left without him.. Also all the Nazi imagery- And the movie never explaining Hitch’s sudden mustache and… perfect replica pegasus wings?

Sprout didn't want Hitch to go at all, he wanted both of them to stay behind where it was safe and so he wouldn't look bad by comparison. It just wasn't in Hutch's character to do that. The Nazi imagery was deliberate for sure, but his uniform was also partially an homage to WW2 American generals. As for the disguise thing, I assumed the mustache was a props left over from his pinup calendar photo shoot, and he just crafted up the wings from whatever he had around lol.

What I don't understand is why Hitch went after Sunny in the first place. The whole town was probably happy to have her gone so why bring her back?

Is my fav part 4:31 "It was an especially tragic day for pesgasi." Was my fav line
