Hey man, I'm writing an essay pretty much exactly about this (DC and CV's different approaches to authenticity) and was wondering if you have a reference for that Morin quotation: 'the film is research'. cheers

I was introduced to cinema veirte as a film student in college but I never learned much about it. Thank you for this video, it is so infomative and beautiful. I want to get the phrase tattooed on my arm and now I feel a lot better about it, knowing what it actually means😂

Fantastic, I have been trying to teach this to students for many years and always struggled, you have managed to capture it in 10 minutes and get the key message across so well, I can't wait to use this in class. Thank you.😀

I watched this in preparation for my exam tomorrow and I must say it presents things in such an organized fashion that helped me gain clarity! Amazing work! I'll also be watching the André Bazin and Total Cinema in two days for another one of my exam. 😭

Thanks for this thoughtful "essay" with great film excerpts and lines from interviews/writings of the filmmakers! Was looking more into the history of these labelled approaches as part of gathering my own thoughts for some videos that I am planning to film soon in West Africa

Amazing video! I really love the idea of capturing reality for the sake of story/art vs. capturing the reality for the sake of research - I always had a hard time recognizing the key difference between Direct Cinema and Cinéma Vérité, except for this "fly in the soup" vs. "fly on the wall" difference. But your video really helped me to grasp what exactly makes them so different, yet so similar to one another - thanks a lot! :))

Love this topic, great job connecting the dots and pointing out the differences in what could lead to “authenticity”. Is chronicles of summer available with subs somewhere?

I really enjoy your channel. You should watch the Swedish documentary from 2023 "And the king said: What a fantastic machine" by Axel Danielsson and Maximilien van something.. A lot of themes brought up here are adressed in the film. A 1+ hour essay film on the nature of the dispositive of the camera and our relationship with it.
