There's actually a better way to retrohale without leaving a burning sensastion in your nose. You basically blow out the smoke very very slowly and continuosly in smaller quantities (through your nose), it will never get harsh and you get to experience more subtle flavors. It's hard to describe and takes a lot of practice but once you get it right it opens up a whole new world. It's basically like gargling with a mouth wash, then using the muscles around the back of your tounge to gently push the smoke up to your nose. I retrohale every single puff throughout a cigar using this method.

Hi there my BOTL. I don’t know how to start so, here’s go. If you take a beautiful draw and hold it in your mouth for 5 seconds, while you take a breath through your nose, then let about 1/4 of the draw gently flow through the nose, then let 3/4 of the draw out the mouth and then let the rest of your draw out your nose gently…. And the smoke will be cool and lovely. After 15 years of practice I can tell you that this is the best way to get all the flavors out of your cigar. In taking a draw and letting it rest in the mouth for five seconds allows the Smoke to cool a little bit before your first reto and then the last reto is nice and easy. You get three different flavor profiles and is the best way to get the most flavor out of your cigar. How does this sound to you. OUT.

Thanks for posting all the great content! An easier way to teach retrohaling might be to ask that a smoker 'chew' the smoke after bringing it into their mouth. Our oral/nasal cavities are built this way to better taste the food we eat ... only makes sense we employ the same tactic when smoking. Thanks again, Holt's!!

I like to retrohale 4-5 times per cigar (typically I smoke Toro size). I like to retro only the last bit of a good puff, rather than the whole thing. It definitely elevates the cigar! Another tip I've heard is to "chew" the smoke while blowing through the nose and that can help learn how. Another great video!

I retrohale on every single puff and I personally smell more flavours this way and feel the nictotine quite a bit more as it get's absorbed through your nostral glands (I have no idea how they are called). If you want to retrohale just keep it relaxed, don't fear you will inhale because you will feel if you inhale. Keep your mouth relaxed and if it doesn't work blow out the smoke theough your mouth slowly and at the same time breathe out of your nose.

I learned to exhale out nostrils and mouth together. Not to complicate, but more out of necessity. Embarrassing (but perhaps helpful) to share- if you have large tonsils, it’s hard to draw smoke in large amounts. Takes me 3-4 puffs on average. Retrohaling is practically essential to get the most flavor when you can’t draw that well. I’ve also found that the cigar will ‘hit you’ a bit harder over time if you only retrohale. Lastly- learn the cigar not just for its blend, but construction. Some brands have such an open draw that you have to manage your puffs appropriately. But some aid your smoke volume (and your ease of retrohaling). So Mazz is right- it’s something that you learn to leverage when you’re finally used to mixing it into your session.

Hey Anthony. You might want to touch on how your nose is the only sense that we have that is directly connected to your brain. All other senses that we have are rerouted to your brain, the nose and smells are directly linked. This is why reto hal is so important. You might get memories u might get smells of food, places, colors. Memories are what makes a cigar so good. And everyone has their own tastes and preferences so everything about cigars is dependent upon what you’ve tasted, drank, enjoyed, it’s all subjective. I think that is something that you might want to touch on, on your next video. What do you think. Cigars are a beautiful experience and should be enjoyed in every aspect of your life. That is what I think. That’s me and I am OUT.
