When I used to live in Brasil, I used to get a thing string and tie around cicadas (cigarra in Portuguese) and ave them as pets rofl. Now many cultures do eat insects and again back in Brasil there's an ant called Tanajura (Atta or leafcutter ants in the US) and I to get a large amount of them and had my grandmother make a dish called farofa using only the rear part of the ant. There's also a very good chef in Brasil called Alex Atala who started using ants mainly because he went to see someone who used a species of ant in her cooking which he found to be incredible. Now lets not forget if you eat shell fish you are eating an insect. I'll save the best for last since it is this amazing insect that not only provides us with a sweet liquid, but is the main reason plants are alive and well....the bees.

We're in the southern Appalachia, the cicadas are just about gone. I live in a hardwood forest, and cicadas are forest food!

I thought learning about nature from David Attenborough was the only way. You may have possibly almost changed nature documentary standard.

Loud and annoying? Y'all must be related 😜 I'm kidding cicadas are much less annoying 🤣 I used to go to Mississippi every summer as a kid to visit family the sound is still ringing in my head 50 years later!!! I haven't seen any cicadas since I've moved to Utah... But we have Mormon crickets! Which are like a crazy giant mutant grasshopper.
