Ciaran Carson on whistle and prose
Ciaran Carson, one of Ireland's most eclectic artists, speaks with poet and musician Terence Winch, in this edition of HoCoPoLitSo's The Writing Life. With three books in as many years, Carson is a prolific prose writer, musician, novelist, translator and traditional Irish flute player. In this edition, Carson explains that writing and playing music occurs in the social context of eating, drinking and conversation: "having a good time, by and large." When Carson finds himself stuck in his writing, he turns to playing his tin whistle. The two talk about translating Dante's "Inferno," Carson's poetry, and the Irish language. Carson plays his tin whistle to end the show. Recorded in 2003. For more information about HoCoPoLitSo and its live or recorded programs, or to help support its mission, visit www.hocopolitso.org

What a man! What a poet!
Last Night's Fun is one of my favourite books, it's so beautifully written. It's really nice to hear him reading excerpts from it - thanks for uploading. Oh, P.S. if anyone's interested, the tune Ciaran plays at the end is The Lark on the Strand :o)
