Church In The Sea, Anglesey, Photography

On this landscape photography outing it was necessary to have a Plan B because I had originally intended to visit the mountains, only to find there was absolutely nothing to see. The cloud base was down around 400m. So by the time I had got back to the island, I decided to visit my local beach at St Cwyfan's Church in the Sea. I'd been unable to check tide times in advance but was lucky to find that it was a low springtide which suited a particular image I had been after for some time.
The light and weather conditions were also quite favourable, and even though I didn't have much time there I thought I would share it with you in this shorter than usual vlog. Hopefully still enjoyable despite its brevity!

To join me for landscape photography workshops, personal tuition or guiding in the mountains have a look over this page: dgriff.gallery/tuition/
Also, if you'd like to learn more about the Anglesey, Snowdonia and North Wales places I visit for my landscape photography, you can see full details on my website in my Location Guides section at: dgriff.gallery/location-guides/.
I find I’m being asked more and more often about the equipment I use. As I’ve typed up countless replies and links and lists for friends and viewers, I’ve now set it all out definitively here: dgriff.gallery/equipment/.

It's a great location, but it's one of those places that can be really hard to photograph and visitors rarely find they have exactly the right conditions when they happened to swing by! I live about a mile away and I've probably only got two or three images that I feel do it justice! That said, it never gets boring because conditions are so changeable round here! 😊👍

Lovely images and and great vlog David. I have been a long time lurker and non commenter hehe. Your video reminded me of my visit, about 3 years ago, just after taking up photography and I can attest to the difficulty and somewhat mortal danger one puts themselves in when deciding to walk the rocks looking for a different composition of the church! I'd also add its not for the faint of heart at 3am in the morning on a cold and moon less night in March; its treacherous at best! However, the risk reward ratio was high, knowing the tide times and being slow, methodical and knowing ones own limits I came away with some lesser seen astro landscapes of the Church which I'm pleased with considering my lack of knowledge and photographic skill back then. Just google Geoff Moore St. Cwyfan's if you are interested in taking a look.

Not a bad location to have as your local beach !! Interesting to hear you referring to bladderwrack - I recall hearing that term many years ago and wondered what the eck it was - to most it's plain old seaweed ! I am working my way backwards for video watching after a sorta break from YT Just watched the Haidi filter review and can see from the footage here its being used - quick question. I noticed that you had the grad behind the inserted 10 stopper - I take it the stopper has a gasket on it? Just wondered if the fact that the grad is behind it and if there was any chance of light getting in between the lens n camera in that case? I have always used the grad in front of stoppers for that reason. Couple of good images from your trip and from the brightness of the white on the church it looks like it has had a lick of paint? atb Al

Hi Tim, yes I certainly have. But this view also requires some very specific conditions and a high spring tide is essential to get the separation to feature the church properly. Also to give the image any interest it really does need to be a mid-summer sunrise so that you get coloured side light 😊👍
