Honestly I view tubthumping as being quite fitting for their discography, it sounds like a working class anthem about never giving up in our fight.

Driving on the bypass to Damascus I saw a preacher trying to hitch a ride With a pair of broken wings And a suitcase full of sins He gathered up his dreams and jumped inside Then pulling Malatesta from his suitcase He lifted up his voice and began to sing 'My hymns of desperation lead to action... And this is where the serious fun begins.' We don't go to God's house anymore Saw the light and walked right out the door We don't go to God's house It's more fun in the dog house We don't go to God's house anymore Well driving on, I tasted sweet salvation As we sung away the pulpit and the past The preacherman and me We sang such harmonies The highway of my life went by so fast The preacher, he got off at the crossroads He said, 'This is where I end, and you begin' He left behind the wings and the Malatesta And the memory of the songs we both did sing We don't go to God's house anymore Saw the light and walked right out the door We don't go to God's house It's more fun in the doghouse We don't go to God's house anymore

This is my favorite Chumbawamba song in the entire cataloge of their work, and I think I have everything! My second favorite is the AMAZING cover of 'Safetypin Stuck In My Heart" by Patrik Fitzgerald, but I do love his version of that one more. Chumbawamba is my favorite band ever! Greeetings from Tennessee, USA!

No Seorez, you're not the only one who loves this song who does not hate religion. Chumbawamba is one of the most underrated groups ever. I cringe when someone refers to them as a one hit wonder. They have at least 25 good-great songs.

I'm more into metal, which regularly gets the criticism "it's not singing, just people screaming and/or shouting." So I hate tubthumping because the worst heavy metal sounds similar. And it was only the single that I was talking about.

Brilliant song, critical of religion but sounds like a classic church song. Much like Bruce Springstreen's "Born inthe USA" which a lot of superficial listeners think os some kind of patriotic song when it is a wrenching song about the loss of war, cf Vietnam and the battle of Khe San...

It's really weird to hear a song that is critical of Christianity, yet if you were for some reason unable to hear the lyrics, the music particularly their harmony, sounds exactly like a Christian song. They've actually done this on several songs, particularly English Rebel Songs.
