so, the band's name was Chumbawamba? Wow... 27 years I finally get to know it.
In memory of my drinking pal, a fellow Brit, who I met in Australia - who became a firm friend. We loved this song and always sang along on mammoth drinking sessions - he sadly passed away a few years ago. This one’s for you, Andy, make sure you have a coldie ready for me up there when my time comes.

I used to work at a Five Guys. They'd play this song constantly but I never knew the title or was able to understand the lyrics. So for the past year the best I could do was hum the background music and hope somebody would recognize it. I was just watching Stephen Colbert and he used the song and when I heard it I screamed "that's it! That's the song!" Then ran upstairs to look it up on KZread. A years journey finally has come to end

Look even closer and you'll find that Chumbawamba is actually a pretty awesome band. Their 80s stuff was punk rock, 90s was mostly dance/whatever you call this, 2000s they were folk. I love all their sounds, and they have a solid message to deliver (though you wouldn't know that by this song)
I was working in London for a week at the height of this song's popularity. I had been working a bit late in an office by St. Pauls and walked around the narrow street and found this tucked away pub in the old part by St. Pauls neighborhood. I'm guessing there were a lot of office workers in the area and by 7:30 the pub filled up, smoky, crowded and loud by 8 pm. This song came on, they turned the volume up to 11 and the whole pub was jumping! It was intense. And wonderful. One of the great memories my career has provided me with. You had to be there.

I think the duet from the girl and the main vocalist is them describing the state the guy is in and I think the whole group singing ia the representation of the song the guy is singing over and over. Quite the depressing song it is.

Over ten years ago I was struck by a car and landed under a different car in my mental stupor to regain consciousness I heard this song and I used this song to make sure that I would walk again and ten years later even though I feel pain in my knee and hip I still be singing I get knocked down but I get up again you're never gonna keep me down. Hope you're getting back up in there... Can I offer something? Sometimes you can channel your anger to direct it at something, exercise or therapy, etc,,,, but the key is to remember that it's all FROM YOUR OWN BODY!! Let your body create the juices to heal yourself!! Been there, crashed dirtbikes and found this approach to be the most heal-filled manner...'
When I was 4 years old my dad told me he got this song made for me, because my name sounded like the word Danny. Now here I am all these years later listening to it again after finally finding the name. This song gave me flashbacks of the days I would just sit in the car next to my dad as a four year old sipping hot chocolate in the Canadian winter enjoying life carefree.
damn, I love the 90's music- from 1990 thru 1999.
Back in the Day I thought Tubthumping was about rising up and continuing to follow your dreams, continuing period, and just inspired in general after getting knocked down. This song was really fun when I was a hyper prepubescent. Now I know it's about drinking stamina and the effects alcohol has on needed to urinate. Not as good to me as far as meaning goes but the songs still a lot of fun. Oh the days of being a 90's baby.

Except, the band held anarchist beliefs, and the song is *actually* talking about the struggle of the working class. "He", as in the one drinking and pissing the night away, is drinking to forget the stress and trouble pushed on him by the work he needs to do in order to support himself, and he sings to remind himself of "the good times, the better times". The song is actually just a loud, dramatic complaint, hence the title "Tubthumping", which is a slang term used to refer to loudly, violently, and/or dramatically expressing an opinion.

I cant believe I just came across this song, 20 or so years ago my 2 sons listened to this group and smashmouth...ECT.. they would play this over and over, it would drive me nuts. then one day they were jamming it was loud, I went to do dishes and didn't realize it but my older son came down and busted me out I was singing and dancing I was totally into the music, didn't have a care in the world. I didn't realize I was singing and dancing around the kitchen, till my audience clapped. it was one of the most funniest and cherished moments we had together. there both grown have kids and wifes. but they still call mom and tell me the new music that's out and I need to listen to it, I would love it they say...what a hoot life was and the fun we had. time flies by way to fast...now I dance with 4 grandkids, I play the oldies and they love it...life is good...

Quite. This IS a spiritual song, so unlikely as that may seem. The lyrics have quite deep meaning (whether Chumbawamba meant that or not), they ARE inspiring. And everybody thinks the singer sounds angelic, even though she uses a 4-letter word. But what is she singing about? Cleansing away the poisoning of alcohol - during the night - so that we are ready to get up again with the light of day. This is a Resurrection song! Not random words at all, and indeed with the Holy Spirit at work things are NOT at random.
That's me! You're never gonna keep me down! I love you all! Very much!
Shoutouts to everyone who's being knocked down by life and been going through hardships all throughout their lives but still keeps on getting back up and keep on fighting. I love you all. May you all reach your dreams and live a happy life in the end. I'm with you guys. 100%
