Still one of my favorite groups. They did timeless Christian music and I still play it on my radio stations in Alabama

I was there at that event in 1989. I had been supporting the "present day" Chuck Wagon Gang and at this reunion I got to meet for the first time, Sister Rose, whose special and unique soprano lead had been the first notable trademark of the Columbia Records Chuck Wagon Gang's sound. I wore out a many of their Columbia albums. Loved that very unique electric guitar accompaniment by a special picker Howard Gordon. May God keep all in the ole Chuck Wagon Gang who have left us!

Boy, the memories! Back in the early 1950’s when I was 4 years old and playing in the yard on a hot summer day under a China berry tree I’d hear the strum of that guitar on radio KGRI in Henderson, Texas, I knew it was lunch time. In fact, Jim Reeves was the radio DJ. I recall how Jim told my sisters that one day he’d make it big and come back and buy that little radio station. He kept his word and did.

That's my granddaddy Roy! What a treat to see him sing! I think this was the performance I saw when I was a little girl. Bless that poor young soul of mine. It took me over three decades to find my way to our Father through Jesus Christ. May He shepherd us all to the line of His Glorious Kingdom awaiting. Amen!

There's no 'logical' explanation for it.. but every time I hear this group.. It just takes me to a place that no other assembly of singers can. There's never been, nor will there ever be, a group quite like this one. Great memories and great blessings. Thanks for posting this.

This is awesome! Shaye Smith (current alto) sounds so like Anna, who would be Shaye's grandmother, I believe. I've loved them since I was a child and my mother played their recorda all the time, her favorite. Thanks so much for posting this one, herecalico!

The Chuck Wagon Gang recorded two of my Daddy's songs, I believe in the 1960's. Both songs were on the same album. I don't remember the name of the album, but it had an old fashioned radio sitting on a table on the front of it. His songs were "Happy In His Love," and "Walking On The King's Highway of Love." My Daddy's name was F. Tarpley and he wrote many southern gospel songs. He was also a shaped note singing school teacher. He taught many schools across Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas. He taught his last school at the age of 91 and passed away at the age of 98. He loved to hear The Chuck Wagon Gang sing.

I saw the Chuck Wagon Gang in Shade Gap PA in the summer of 1969 and they had a younger guy playing guitar--it might've been Mylon LeFevre, as I remember talking with him.
