My goodness this line up 🔥🔥🔥

Had this album on 8 track as a kid. Later found the vinyl at a used record store.

Incredible orchestration from Mangione! I've come a conclusion this is close to being Steve Gadd's best solo work. Gadd's conviction is on another world here, and has a great composition to work from. Not many people know about this recording. I can hear Dizzy Gillespie laughing in the background during Steve's solo. Another is the live Tom Scott Apple Juice - Instant Relief, with an incredible solo by Marcus Miller. Another is Chick Corea 3 Quartets & Mangione Alive. There's many more, but these take the cake.

My favorite Gadd's moment is on Chick Corea's "Nite Sprite".

Chuck is ha. that thing you look for again.I sat with him in Phila. at Zanzibar Blue 26 years ago. He agreed to take my Vocal demo CD for review. Ha. When I returned to my auto after the show. I realized I had given Chuck an empty CD case. ha.🤙🏻

Steve is an incredible drummer! Love him!

Chuck is really amazing. Whenever I listen to this track, Bellavia, it reminds me of my departed friend Pascal Kheletsane with whom i enjoyed this song in the early 80s. Rest in Peace My Friend.

Man, you weren't kidding about that drummer. HOOO BOY!!

I"m a percussion/woodwind person, and I could listen to "Bellavia" all freakin' day...it's band nerd nirvana...

Being only a mediocre rhythm guitar picker, when i hear wind instruments being played I see it as pure genus. I thank GOD for MAN's musical abilities and the desire to share HIS craft. Also, the appreciation for said musical talents offers joy overflowing, when it is tight and right.

"My One and Only Love" is a masterpiece. Chick Corea's piano work on this is stunning.

I wonder if anybody has ever made a machine that would be able to transcribe onto paper every note that was played by either of the instruments that were played on this song. You know like you plug a stereo wire from the headphone jack of a computer system into the external microphone jack of a machine that would automatically be able to transcribe to paper everything that the machine hears. I for myself would LOVE TO KNOW some of the chord progressions that are played by CC during this song. I would tear it apart measure by measure trying to learn how the progressions intertwined with each other. Of course there are probably so many diminished 3rds, and augmented 5ths in this song that it would take years to knock it out completely (if it could be done at all).

nudist0885 There's software that can pick out the notes of a single melody line, although somewhat imperfectly. Picking out notes of chords and polyphonic music hasn't been cracked yet, as far as I know.

I learned Trombone in the 7th grade and my music teacher played the "Children of Sanchez" album to show us brass players what REAL trombone players sound like. I learned the entire album and here some 30+ years later, still got my trombones and all my Chuck Mangione albums....great stuff........timeless and always takes me back to that damn band room

Our h.s. bandleader my last two years was Roger Bangert who played trombone with the "modern" Tommy Dorsey band. He helped out all the brass (me, trumpet) so much and took our dance band, "The Moonglowers" from good to something special. Also innovative on the football field. We took some top honors those years.

All I can say Davidus18 is a huge T H A N K Y O U !!!!!!! Been looking for this particular album for years on KZread unsuccessfully up until today. You will have to excuse me but besides crying joyfully I also peed my pants, it's been long 22 years, my dad is going to love this again !!!!!!!!!!

Also by copying and pasting the link into a KZread to MP3 Converter which is free is goes directly to your iTunes and therefore synced to your cell phone device, and it's there already ! Hey, you did an outstanding job uploading this masterpiece with all of the track names, times, credits and the photography, I really like it a lot, so thanks again David !!

ooh yea, can we have it on Spotify or Soundcloud, pretty please and pizza too? I had bought the original... then my ex sold it because he liked to record it on cassette, and other issues... so then after my divorce, I kept looking to find it again. Fast forward some 15-20 years later, I found a Japanese import of it on eBay in vinyl. Still have it, but no nice quality turntable to play it on, haha! Plus I didn't realize it had been renamed "Tarantella" - I remembered that was one of the songs on it, but I was thinking my original copy was all about the fundraiser (this was before GoFundMe etc!!).

약 20여 년 전, 라디오에서 흘러나오는 ‘산체스의 아이들’을 우연히 듣고 트럼펫과 푸르겔혼(?)인가의 연주에 너무 흥분했던 기억이 있습니다. 물론 곡 전체를 아우르는 리듬과 멜로디도 너무 감동적이고 훌륭했지만 말이죠. 며칠 뒤 CD음반을 구입한건 당연한 일이기도 합니다. 유튜브를 통해 많은 곡을 감상할 수 있는 기회가 있어 너무 좋은 세상이고, 이 곡을 올려 준 분에게도 감사합니다.

My dad bought this album about the time I was born. I remember putting it on when I was 4, I loved the XIth Commandment. I probably haven't played an LP since I was 10, but this album still KILLS.

I learned to play Bellavia on my trumpet listening to this album. I was a sophomore in high school four years after this was released. I had it on vinyl and my grandmother used to love hearing me play along with this. That was 32 years ago and I can still play it. Chuck got me through the hardest years of my life and I'm glad I still have that.

I’m so happy to be closely related to Chuck… I’ve grown to love different music styles but my first live music shows were Chuck Mangione shows before I could form conscious memories. Tarantella was one of my favorite songs when I was very young and this version always comes to mind on the rare occasion I think about it. Viva la famiglia Bellavia!

I find it disheartening that most people will never hear this and think he’s great for “Feels So Good”.

Things to come, fantastica

I'm glad to see this here on KZread - I bought the Vinyl LP years and years ago (it was a fundraiser for the victims of a volcano explosion in Italy back in the 1970's or early 1980's? With Dizzy Gillespie! I remember my dad just going crazy at the excellent high fidelity quality of recording - felt like we were right there in the concert!!

This album was recorded particularly well. I felt and feel like your dad does. In my mind I am right on stage with these guys. Such a nice sound. A&M did a great job with this one. It is a sin that it has not been re-released.

17'41" "Legend of the one- eyed sailor" - my favourite song of this album. Beautiful, awesome, great solos, groovy drums. A lot of energy. Playing this music = telling some story (imagine places, situations). I have it on 2LPs. Thank's for uploading.

An excellent album and in my opinion the last recording of Dizzy at the top of his game. Some great soloing all the way around the table.

Uno de los mejores álbumes que se han hecho es Tarantella, posiblemente.

I have the album and cassette and cassette kind of worn, no turntable. Was a time I listened to this everyday. Have been waiting for someone to put this up. My alltime favorite drumwork from Steve Gadd. Was teaching beginner drum lessons to some kids for a while and played this for each one.

+Steve Lacey There are a few good versions on this album. I'd love to see a transcription of My One And Only Love someday. Chick's piano work is stunning.

Thanks so much for sharing this! I remember buying the 8 Track Tape and listening to it religiously. I remember being blown away by "Things to Come" thinking: "What the heck is this?" For I had never heard any such thing like that before in my life, never mind listening to Dizzy's solo, thinking: "What planet do these musicians come from?" Steve Gadd on drums was another enigma for me musically, as well as, Chick Corea on Keys, and the list goes on - Lew Soloff, Jeff Tyzik, Chris Vadala, Sal Nistico...Once again, thanks for sharing!

I emailed some guy in the Chuck Mangione fan club about it and he told me that Chuck does not own the rights to this album, A&M does and that they are the ones to release it on cd if and when they want to. Too bad because it is a dream band and contains the best performance of Round Midnight ever recorded, in my opinion. I can email you my recordings of that, Things to Come, and Manteca if you want them.

I just checked google on May 15th 2018. Apparently it isn't available on any format other than LP. Unfortunate...................(8^( Fortunately for me, I put this entire album on a Sony ICD-BX800 in SHQ speed about 3 years ago. I still have it....................somewhere. The great thing about Sony ICD boxes is that once you record something onto them ................it STAYS FOREVER in the EXACT condition of the original transfer.

One Word : Excelent !!!

My dad would have loved this album. He played the "Together" album over and over, along with "Chase the Clouds Away". I wish "Together" were ripped onto youtube - I don't think it exists in CD form.

Russ Childers there IS a cd with album "Together Forever" (Chuck Mangione & Steve Gadd). It was released in 1994 by Gates Music. And luckily I have that album ripped to lossless format in my collection)))) If you want I can upload the album somewhere and you will be able to download it. Your dad will be happy, definitely)

Thanks for sharing this great album. Great memories. My drumteacher made me play transcriptions of the Gadd solos (11th commandment) for my exams in highschool😅! Btw: would someboy know where to find these transcriptions today?

I think it's an absolute joke that this was never released on cd as far as I know...

Does anybody knows if Steve Gadd plays on other tracks beyond The 11th commandment suite?

The first tarantella of the group is played in the Vallo di Diano, an area in the province of Salerno, further south of Naples. How does Mr Mangione know it?
