Dr. Daniel Lau Chak-kwong from HKBU AVA is also a successful calligraphy artist from HKU Department of Fine Arts. My History teacher from Rosaryhill School tells me that, she claimed History as her major and Fine Arts as her minor during her studies at HKU Faculty of Arts. During her old HKU days, HKU Department of Fine Arts offered two very limited studio-art practice courses, which were Chinese calligraphy and Printmaking. My History teacher enrolled in these two courses. But of course, for other Fine Arts electives, she strictly focused on Chinese and Western art history researches. For Prof. Wan Qingli, he was a prominent Chinese landscape painter but his achievements in publishing art-history reference books were equivalently awesome during his teaching service at HKU Department of Fine Arts. I agree with your point that, as HKU Department of Fine Arts is simply an art-history programme, it provides a greater extent of autonomy for you to develop your own creative style.

The DSE VA curriculum strictly requires candidates to write comparative aesthetic analysis. For art graduates like you from HKU Department of Fine Arts, you are much more qualified to teach pretty well in this "Art Appreciation" session.
