    1. Get yourself a Fieldpiece SMAN digital manifold gauge set or similar. 2. Pressurize with nitrogen to 150 PSI. 3. Run the leak test function from the digital manifold set. 4. Profit.

    Wow! Really helpful to see what's behind that dash. Thank you for taking the time to make the video. It's 105-110 deg. F out here in the CA desert and I've got no A/C. I put gauges on the high and low side. No pressure at all. Depressed the Schrader valve on the low side. Nothing. Also, there's a ticking sound coming from somewhere in the dash when I first turn the car on, but it stops after a minute or so. I'm thinking its something on the Evaporator assembly.

    Etta only have a leak, as well as a bad actuator or door problem. Find out which one is making the noise by feeling around before taking it apart…careful of sharp edges. That way you can fix both at the same time.

  • @JimmyMakingitwork

    Hope it goes well for you! Mostly the couple of bolts that seem to face the wrong way are the ones to look out for. Also be super careful on all the metal edges. ever drag your hand on any of them and careful breaking bolts loose near any metal parts.

    Are the dashes on Chrysler T&Cs installed as a fully-assembled unit? If so, can you remove the whole dash as a single assembled unit rather than parsing it out bit by bit to get to the evaporator?

  • @JimmyMakingitwork

    @JimmyMakingitwork

    Жыл бұрын

    There are some bolts that can't be accessed without removing the cluster, airbag and stereo components. The wiring harness is also entwined in the dash pretty well, making it necessary to remove other items like the column for access.

    If it’s metal there are flexible magnets, but if not it might require removing the dash. If it’s a valuable item it might be worth while to do that.

    I get my info from Alldata or Identifix. But many things are not even shown there and some of the work is careful tugging to see where clips are and find hidden bolts. Splitting the HVAC case is usually not shown also if the manufacturer recommends replacing it as an assembly.

    I have a 2019 grand caravan that needs this. Are they very similar? What part number and source for the evaporator core ?

  • @JimmyMakingitwork

    @JimmyMakingitwork

    5 ай бұрын

    They are similar. Not sure of part numbers, I’d check with the dealership parts department for the best parts for an evaporator job. Aftermarket will work but there is a slightly more risk of a problem and doing it over is no fun.

    Looks like Chrysler did the stupidly easy to replace heater core but a huge pain to replace evaporator like Volvo cars did! if I recall correctly it was a 18 hour job to replace one on a 95-2001 model S70…. Was a Volvo master tech from about 2002-2005.

    I film these while at work and try to get everything I'm able while earning my pay. Since I'm a flat rate mechanic it is sometimes difficult to get every step. There are some hidden bolts on these in the steering column area, near the brake pedal brackets. There are also bolts that face backwards holding the HVAC case to the dash. Next time I'll try and catch all those rather than only mentioning them. Thanks for watching.
