Worked for me... 2000 Grand Cherokee. Used a Launch Diagun V in the "PCM > special functions > check VIN" part. Fantastic. I took a pic of the VIN on the screen of the Diagun once it auto detected it, then I had to manually enter the VIN to re-write the used PCM... then the same thing of turning off key after that was successful, plugging in SKIM module, and start up car.

Thanks for the help...been a mechanic for over 40 years and I have never replaced an engine computer with the battery hooked up. Just had to bite the bullit and buy that scanner you have for $3400 but just using it for the first time it outperforms the Snap On Verus Edge that I have now that was way more expensive. can't wait to try to reprogram a key. Much Mahalo from the Big Island of Hawaii @ Kolohe Auto Repair. My repair was a 06 PT Cruiser with no communication with the ecm/pcm and transmission stuck in 2nd gear. All is well now.

I just did this with a Launch Diagun V. Can find them for around $580. About the same functionality as the Launch Pro Mini but smaller device.

So the car retained its original key and skim reader with only the PCM replaced ? Does the VIN reset process enter SKIM ID in the PCM ? I thought SKIM, PCM and key had to be a set. I know that wrecker yards offer the PCM, SKIM READER AND KEY saying it will get your ( Grand Cherokee 2002 in my case ) running but it doesn't because the VIN is wrong. Some sell them after entering the VIN code you supply to them. I can't find anyone who can tell me what the VIN in the PCM is reconciled with in the car. Is it the BCM, The trans controller, what ? Surely it's not just the SKIM reader box on the ignition barrel because that supposedly matches the PCM you got it with. Is there another element between the PCM and the SKIM reader ? Real confused ( just like most people It seems )

There is an eeprom on the board that needs to be transferred.

Was the used PCM from the same year of vehicle and model as the original? If not were there any issues from other modules?

Not sure if it was but it was the same part numbers. I was giving the module to program it only. If it did have different P-FLASH DATA loaded than we would have to flash it with correct calibration file using witech or legacy application.

One of the ignition coil was disconnected. Not really sure about the oil light but that definitely has nothing to do with the coding we did.

Hey can you do this if you go pull a PCM from a salvage yard car and replace it with your car’s old PCM? I’ve heard if a used PCM already knows another car’s VIN you can’t reprogram it to your car

You can program a used one but new one not sure you might have to use witech

Instead of disconnect can do a skim reset works fine

That’s definitely correct! But sometimes immobilizer light keeps on flashing even after skim reset and might have to restore vehicle configuration through witech.

I have that problem now in my 2002 Dodge Durango but I already changed the PCM without disconnecting the IMMO and is not turning on

It depends on the software version of SKIM module. Some you won’t have to unplug anything and changing VIN will be enough. So you might want to try by just writing VIN without unplugging anything first.

Hello, one of the coil was unplugged which I didn’t notice but noting was related to programming

That’s definitely incorrect! I would suggest you to do more research before you do any suggestions. Check engine was on because one of the coil was unplugged

A lot of these vehicles you can do it without the original PCM as well. Some you would have to get the IMMO pin code and just change the vin.

I think the autel I'm 608 is only to program the keys

Yes but in some models pcm will need to be opened and swap eeprom chips
