Chrono Cross is one of the many GOAT games on the PS1, that console was just banger after banger after banger I miss my youth playing this along with FF7, FF8, FF9, Legend Of Dragoon, FF Tactics, Lunar: SSSC, Suikoden II, Wild Arms Series, Legend Of Legaia, Castlevania Symphony Of The night, Vagrant Story, Grandia and Breath Of Fire III.......such good times now I am 39 where did the good times go. I loved the PS2, Xbox, and Nintendo Consoles but the PS1 will NEVER be beat even though the PS2 and PS4/5 outsold it as it was a time when quality games were being made by people with a passion and companies that cared.

This song has always had such a mix of mystery and sadness, wonder and ache...it somehow makes the soul soar and cry out at once. Not intending to be overdramatic, but it mixes the two so strangely. It's been over 20 years since I first heard this song when I first played this game. And it still sticks with me, haunting and beautiful. Like that line in Lord of the Rings were Galadriel to take the ring "Instead of a Dark Lord you would have a Queen, terrible and beautiful as the dawn". To this day, I still think it is the best overworld music of all time. I can hum or sing (tone) along with it, matching the notes or dancing alongside the melody, and I still have to be careful or it will make me tear up doing so, or sometimes even just listening to it. All I've seen and done and experienced since the first time I heard this...and it's still captivating. I might listen to this when I try to sleep tonight...

My mom wanted this played at her funeral. When she died, I chose different music because this game was special to me and I couldn't let my feelings for her taint this game for me. It's been 8 years now, and I am at peace with her. Now I can hear it and not be angry. She is just in another world...

I...can understand that. While I can see honoring her wishes, I could also see it just being too much to bear with how the song is innately a mix of mystery and sadness. It's cool she loved this piece in life, and that you are at peace with it now in her death. Take care, friend.

Not honoring your late mother's wishes is disgraceful. You should be ashamed.

I've been looking for a video of this music that shows different pictures of environment. I think it's a decade ago already. It's really perfect how those simple pictures capture the atmosphere of this music and I remember how everyone in the comments were contemplating over it. Did anyone here happen to see that video? I've never seen another one like it. How I wish I could watch it again... I think I've only watched it once. Life was quite busy back then. I'm pretty sure it talks about something like the environment in its title and caption. There were pictures of skies, trees and birds...

Each and every moments in our lives exist within this world, they are all unique and personalized in their own way, that part of the world this person refers to exist now only in their memory and those who relate to their comment, that world may have become this one but it is ultimately out of reach, vanished from the grasp of those who never knew it, even if that was just something someone experienced here before, uncanny how our experiences are seen as so repetitive by so many around when they in fact so unique they could barely be reproduced , crazy enough that things see fit to occur by themselves most of the time even with the genuine reasons we find to the facts after.

This game sucked (although the soundtrack was obviously excellent). I'm sorry, but you don't achieve greatness by stomping all over the memory of your predecessor. Chrono Trigger was a truly marvelous experience - Chrono Cross was a recycled idea (Magical Dreamers) whose every nod to CT was either derivative or outright destructive. The implication that we actually *lost* the battle in Chrono Trigger was a complete non-starter for me, and remains so to this day. You better be the most amazing, stand-alone experience ever if you're going to undo every emotional touchstone in a game like CT. And Chrono Cross didn't even approach that high bar.

Chrono Cross as a stand alone game is good, as a sequel? I agree with everything you said.
