Chronic Diarrhea: Approach to Cause, Secretory vs Osmotic vs Inflammatory, Watery vs Bloody Diarrhea

Chronic Diarrhea | Approach to Causes, Secretory vs Osmotic vs Inflammatory, Watery vs Bloody Diarrhea
Chronic diarrhea is diarrhea occurring for greater than 2-4 weeks, and it is broadly categorized into secretory, osmotic, functional, inflammatory, and malabsorptive causes. Causes include medications, crohn’s disease and celiac disease among many others. Depending on the cause, we can see either watery diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, or diarrhea with or without food. In this lesson, we look at an approach to the cause of chronic diarrhea, including a variety of factors that can help determine the cause of chronic diarrhea.

    Thank you so much for this video. Am I right to say my grandma suffers from Secretory Chronic Diarrhea, as her diarrhea sometimes wakes her up at night, occurs early in the morning before and after she eats and it's watery? And it's been months now since she's been like that. She takes high blood pressure, pain, diarrhea and diabetes pills. Could those pills be the cause of her diarrhea? And few weeks after she took the vaccine it actually got worse and she was bed-ridden that she had to use diapers. Please assist🙏🏾😭

    you know when you have a cold, and yea been blowing your nose all day long... its like that, not everyday by any stretch, but often enough. i'm not bleeding or losing weight and i was already put off work for refusing the shot, so there is no real life to interfere with but it would be nice to be able to go for a walk before 10am without getting nervous.... i love dairy, it's always kinda hated me, but i think i may have to give up milk and since coffee hates everyone apparently thats gotta go too, i love you milk but after 3 years of brutally predictable mornings, you have to go now; maybe we can get together for alittle ice-cream from time to time, but for now it has to be over 😞

    I've had Diarreah for almost 1 month, but it's just once a day. No fever, no cramps, no abdomen pain although on day 4 I did throw up twice and never again. Went to a PA and they wrote me a 3 day antibiotic for Cipro and it seemed to get better, but then back to stomach making crazy noises, but no urge to use the bathroom. No blood either. I do use Prilosec OTC and drink Coca Cola everyday like alot and my diet is terrible. I'm a 45 year old male, but don't do drugs or drink. One day I think I'm getting better then when I use the bathroom it's mostly water with some consistency. I've never experienced this before and it's driving me nuts. Also I've had increased stress, because I have to move in less than 2 months, but don't have a home to move to yet so that worries me. If I'm not better in 5 days I'm going to a GI doctor.

    Oh God, there's my picture again, it has circulated so much know one knows who this person is. So I feel it is my duty to be totally honest. I uploaded this picture some time ago, and it has gone viral -- espcially within medical orientated videos. The one who had taken this picture I suppose has the copyright. I am not the one (quite obviously) that had TAKEN this picture, as I had been the SUBJECT. So enough said. I have chronic diarrhoea, and it could be from three sources, 1. Irritable Bowel Syndrome -D (Diarrhoea oriented IBS). 2. from Crohns Disease one of the main two disorders, the other IBD being Ulcerative Colitis (UC). 3. FD or Functional Diarrhoea which has only recently been accepted into medical science, through the Rome criteria IV. I am still waiting for the 'war' to cease and give me the proper diagnosis. 1,2, or 3. I suppose this is not easy. The argument continues which I am bound for and would like to have the actual correct diagnosis finally found asap!

    I had a sludgy Gallbladder not putting out Bile properly and so I had the BIG D for about a month. Started taking some natural products and Gallbladder specific products and it cleared right up, I also took some Ox Bile pills. If your butt burns, that means your bile is not releasing in full or at all and thus your Digestive Acids which exits the stomach with your food, needs to be rushed out from the small intestine, else the acid would harm the tracts, thus our brains tell our body water needs to flush this shyt out quick !! But it still burns as it exists.

    No, not always. In most traditional homes they were separate. In most places I have lived in all my life they have been separate, Admittedly, in modern buildings they are often the same room with a guest toilet separate. In modern offices where Americans like so many other people inthe world are forced to spend a great part of their lives carrying out boring and often useless work, the wahshroom and the toilets are always the same sterile unpleasant place. The point remains that the Americans are so prude that they cannot bring themselves to say urinate or defecate and they say "go to the bathroom" instead. In fact, go to the bathroom is associated with washing or bathing and going to the toilet is associated with defecating or urinating. Its hardly rocket science but American prudery disguises the language and thus blurs the distinction beteen going somewhere to wash and going somewhere to defecate, which is perhaps an interesting reflection on the American mind in general. If the Americans find toilet such an offensive word, perhaps they should go back to using the old fashioned word, WC. There should be some way that Americans can distinguish when they talk between washing their hands and pissing or CANT Americans distinguish??@@FunkyMonkeySpank

  • @MrYorickJenkins

    @MrYorickJenkins

    11 ай бұрын

    If anyone is ranting here, it is you. It is revealing that you write "toilets in American homes are in the bathroom" implying that as usual America is somehow the gold standard for the world, as toilets in America are always in the bathroom therefore the rest of the world should understand bathroom is a synonym for toilet. Is that what you mean? Halleluia USA! Having taught English for half a century, I think I know a little about how the English language works. I know that Americans are so prude that they change English words to avoid embarrassment: tit becomes chickadee, cock becomes rooster and yes toilet becomes boys room or bathroom. When Americans say they "are going to the bathroom" it is unclear why they are going or what they are going to do in said "bathroom". It is not especially important, there are more important things in life, but it is one further example of the American tendency to simplify the English language and usually that passes on to the rest of the English speaking world, unfortunately, but there again, the average American vocabulary is quite modest in size, so merging toilet and bathroom to become one word "bathroom" is par for the course. Americans dont like to struggle with large vocabularies. @@FunkyMonkeySpank
