Just found your lecture. My son had extra material on the distal arm of his 11th chromosome. They called it 11q+ syndrome, for lack of a better term. In the 23 years that he lived I was never given any explanation about what that meant or any positive prognosis on how he would develop. Tho I and my husband were not exposed to radiation in our environment, we were both exposed to high lead levels, and he in his work place, to trichlorethylene and other industrial solvents, which he brought home on his clothes. Your lecture has done more to explain the several possibly actions of chromosome's than all the doctors I had my son to in the 23 years of his life. I thank you, even tho he is now deceased, for clarifying in my mind his chromosomal anomaly and the mechanics of how he received it.

Hi Lesa, So sorry for your loss. I have a 5 year old son with a Micro-Duplication on his 5p13 and 8q11 chromosomes, and he presents with mild Autistic-like symptoms and Apraxia - he can’t talk yet, just babbles. Although, he seems happy and is affectionate. It’s so sad, and we don’t have any about his Prognosis because all the Doctors and Geneticists we’ve seen are near-useless! Every answer to any of our questions is: “Oh well, Yes & No”; or “Possibly”; or “We don’t really know...who can say?” I’m was concerned hearing about your Son who tragically passed at 23... my Wife & I have never been told of any shorter Life Expectancy for our Son...? He’s is perfect health. Do you mind if I ask you if his passing was attributed in any way to his Micro-Duplication? Thank You so much for your help 🙏

@@markyaus2011 Only in the sense that it left him very vulnerable to colds, flu's, and pneumonia. He died of H1N1-A in 2009. His heart and lungs simply could not handle the severe form of this flu.

@@ph1lodox361 yeah we obviously learn this before med school but we forget it. This a review in med school. Just like the kreb cycle, some things you learn it 50x in school and still have to relearn it.

Good job, thank you! I would like to ask you, do you know how these mutations could be seen in the PCR technique?
Thanks for the video! I'm curious if there's a particular phase in the cell cycle where translation can occur or can it be during any phase of the cell cycle?
Thanks a lot for this amazing and clear explanation. My question is during exposure to radiation, are all cells affected or, single or group of cells?
Thank you soooo much 😢
Thanks mate
thanks!
Thank you 😭😭
Well explained
Love from INDIA sir
Thank you! You made it fun to follow along 🤓 So with a translocation, will the segment that breaks off attach at the corresponding sequence of the new chromosome?
Thanks sir.
It would be great if you will make more videos about human diseases and explain their mechanisms and effects on body from a biochemistry point of view
thank u!
Thank you

Thank you sir

bruh this is pretty good
Veryyyyyy GOOD explanation

Man! You are an amazing teacher! I have a question: does the duplication occur just in this way? Is it possible that a gene duplicates bc of an error of the DNApol? I mean, is it possibile that 2 homologous both have the gene and in one there is also an extra copy that doesnt derive from the homologous but from an error in duplication?
Awesome job!
