My friend Noel and I met Christy Moore at the Farmgate in Cork City, it's a small restaurant inside a big open market. We went over to tell him how much we had enjoyed his show the night before. He was very gracious and asked us to join him. We must have talked for two hours before he had to leave. That was many years ago. To this day whenever he sees me, maybe once every year or 2, he makes it a point to come over and say hello. He always remembers my name. A true class act and a gentleman.

I haven't listened to this song for about 4 years because it back memories that make me cry. 5 years ago we had a horrible fire blaze at the horse stables. We lost 3 horses and a dog. That night after the fire i drove in the car to the caravan where i had to live (the house i was living in burnt down as well) I couldn't stop crying when i listened to this song because my favourite horse that died was 16.1 and i kept looking at the place where he used to lie with teardrops in my eyes.

Christy is so right about this song, it has very sad, emotional connections for me, to do with lost love, and it seems from other comments that it touches nearly everyone who hears it.

He sang at my kin's pub in Coiltemagh, for a fallen hunger-striker who hailed from there. All the best to you Christy.

My favourite song. Those who don't get it, don't understand the simplicity of life. An Irish song (well done Jimmy!) that holds a lot of emotion and feelings for the average person. Saw Christy a couple if times and left each concert with goosebumps! Haunting and true to the layman. No need for do called 'music critics' to comment. Simplicity is what made it such a beautiful song to many. If you don't understand it, then move on. Too many people these days try to ruin simplicity with their drama
