It’s April, in the middle of lockdown, and I’m watching a video about Danish Christmas traditions. Det var så godt; tusind tak Easy Danish og glædelig jul! 🎅🏻🎄🎁

ijnfrt it almost sounds like an asian language to me, with a few French, English and german words randomly added in the conversation 😆

Learn Swedish first, then Danish becomes easy.

Heyo well, I was just being sarcastic in my last comment. Why learn a language before the one you really want to learn? Definitively not an efficient strategy 😊. Also, I have watched « the bridge » series on Netflix. 4 complete seasons in Danish and Swedish with French or english subtitles. I had time to notice the differences between both languages . The rolled swedish R vs the easy « French » danish R for example. I think that for a French speaker like myself, Danish sounds « easier » than swedish ( not to learn , but to pronounce).

It is indeed like a mix of English pronunciation rules and German pronunciation rules and sounds, and, I recommend learning all the Danish pronunciation rules with many examples first, as there are some patterns to them, and I recommend learning Danish together with the other prettiest languages ever created Norse / Gothic / Icelandic / Faroese / English / Dutch / Norwegian / Welsh / Breton / Cornish as they are way too pretty not to know, plus the other Germanic / Celtic languages and Latin etc can also be learnt together on the side - for example, the d is silent in many Danish words, and especially when at the end of the word like in the words vand / mand / land etc the d is silent, so if there are nd / and / rde / de / gde letter combinations the D is silent or almost always silent, and many times the g is pronounced like an i / y sound or is silent, so age / agde letter combinations are pronounced éye / éie and ag is pronounced ey / ei like in the English word eight, so dag sounds like dey (same as in English) and bag sounds bey (like the English word bay) and tag sounds like tey and sagde sounds like seye and dage sounds like deye etc, but the g in drage / rage letter combinations is pronounced more like an u or w sound as the w in English, so opdrage is pronounced opdraue / opdrawe and drage is pronounced draue / drawe and rage is pronounced raue / rawe etc, and the f in the af prefix is also pronounced u / w and it sounds like the á in Icelandic (the af prefix = au) and that’s why a word like aflægge sounds like aulegge and the word aftale sounds like auteyle, and om is pronounced am in most words, so sommer sounds like sammar (er at the end of the words is pronounced with soft vowel-controlled R with A vowel usually, so the A sound takes over the R sound in many of the words with er at the end, so the R is very subtle and almost inaudible at the end of the word) and kom sounds like kam and morsom sounds like morsam and lomme sounds like lamme etc, and the a is pronounced like an e sound in many words, so ane letter combinations are pronounced ene with e sound, so hane sounds like hene, svane sounds like svene, fane sounds like fene etc, and ale letter combinations are pronounced with a long a sound that sounds like ey / ei, so tale sounds like teyle and dale sounds like deyle and hale sounds like heyle and lokale sounds like lokeyle etc, but when there’s two Ls like in alle letter combinations it’s a short sound that sounds like e and it’s pronounced faster, so alle is pronounced elle and skalle is pronounced skelle etc with e vowel sounds, and al is also pronounced el with e vowel sound, so skal sounds like skel and lal sounds like lel etc, and v at the end of the word and sometimes in the middle of the word is pronounced like an u / w sound too, so liv sounds like liu and kniv sounds like kniu and lov sounds like lou and I think ovn is pronounced oun / own and niv sounds like niu etc, and there are many pronunciation rules like these, so I highly recommend learning them all before trying to learn from text with subtitles, and, one should also know that most speakers don’t pronounce all the sounds when speaking fast and that there are many different accents!

I can understand most Danish words when reading the subtitles because I am already advanced level in Norwegian Bokmål and Icelandic, and am also upper advanced level in Dutch and upper intermediate level in Norse and German, so I can also understand most Faroese words and many of the new Gothic words, even though I am beginner level in Faroese / Gothic / Danish at the moment! So, now I can learn Danish and Gothic and Faroese three times faster, because I can already understand most words, so when I see text, I don’t need individual translation for most words! By the way, I would suggest making more videos (including super easy videos for beginners and intermediates) and creating Easy yts for every Norse language (Easy Danish / Easy Faroese / Easy Icelandic / Easy Norwegian / Easy Swedish / Easy Norse / Easy Gothic etc) if possible, and a series of videos comparing Danish words to Icelandic words and Norse words and Faroese words and Norwegian words and Swedish words etc with English translation!

Not really, it’s just the pronunciation and accent that require a bit more practice in languages such as Danish and German - Danish is very easy to learn, as every other Norse / Germanic language, as all Norse / Germanic languages are category 1 languages and are the easiest languages ever with gorgeous words that are naturally very easy and fun to learn!
