    Make sure you have the Crowsfoot adapter positioned correctly when using it with a torque wrench. Position it at 90 Degrees on the head of the torque wrench when torquing a fastener with the Crowsfoot adapter.

    I was looking at that tool set (might have been next size up) and for the hobbiest, and those who aren't professionals, they cover almost all the bases and should be a good starting point. Bit late now, but the different boxes had x/10 on their sides, where x was the suggested tools' location drawer. As someone else mentioned, a bit of thought before installing them would be wise as it is normal practice to put the most used at the most comfortable height and, my personal view, the heaviest tools towards the bottom for stability.

    The offset of the crowfoot will change the amount of torque applied because it makes the wrench longer/shorter. If used 90 degrees to the side the torque will not change, otherwise you would need to calculate the difference to get an accurate torque.

  • @271production

    @271production

    5 жыл бұрын

    In theory, yes. In practice, no. A torque wrench transmits torque both during and after the click, and this means that you almost always transfer more torque to the bolt than what you set the wrench at. If you ever calibrated torque wrenches this is easy to see on the torque tester. So a little extra arm from the crowfoot doesn't really matter in the real world

  • @deltahawk1001

    @deltahawk1001

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@271production Lets say you are using a 12 inch wrench to torque something to 200 in lbs. 1 inch of added length (anvil center to bolt head center) means you need to set your wrench to 185 in lbs (184.6154) to achieve your desired torque. That is a 15 in lbs difference. (7.5%) I would call that significant. Lets say you want 200 Ft Lbs from a 24 in Torque Wrench. Not you have to set for 192 Foot Lbs. I don't know what you work on but in my world 8 ft lbs (96 in lbs) is a big deal.

  • @271production

    @271production

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@deltahawk1001 7,5 % is very much insignificant. A normal torque wrench has a 4% margin already. On a torque tester you can very clearly see that when you set a wrench to, say 100 (nm or ft lbs, doesnt matter for the example) and pull until you feel the click, the tester shows that 140 is easily done without it feeling like you're going past the click. This is also the reason no car/engine factory actually uses click torque wrenches but electronic DC tools that can actually apply the correct torque. And this is all assuming the bolts have the specified friction. Dirt, oil, rust etc all COMPLETELY change the actual strength of the connection, much more than 7,5% increase in applied torque.

  • @deltahawk1001

    @deltahawk1001

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@271production Yes but with the added length you are putting that 7.5% on top of the natural over torque you describe. so now it is what 10-12%? Plus a potential +/- 4% for calibration margin. Why knowingly make a tool more inaccurate? Also if using a electronic tool the offset still applies. I am not an expert in the automotive industry but I would wager you won't see those factory tools being used with an improperly attached offset adapter. I know that in Aviation we concern ourselves greatly with installing hardware properly. If a bolt is rusty it gets replaced, if it is greasy it gets cleaned unless the manual specifies lubrication, and every time a bolt goes into a tapered insert the drag and breakaway torques are verified to ensure the insert is still performing as needed. And adding 7.5% (or more on a bigger crowfoot or a dog-bone torque adapter, lets face it 1 inch is a pretty small offset) on top of whatever margin for error already exists because you are too lazy to put some numbers into a calculator will get you in trouble.

    They never fit anywhere any way with a torque wrench in cars or anything smaller than a tractor,maybe a power steering hose or a diesel injector line . Hand tight once you have a feel for it ,is what most people do. Or tighten it up until it breaks and then back it off a 1/8 turn .

    Nice set of tools and cabinets. The things you haven't seen before are called crows feet. When used for torque specifications they should be used with the crow foot 90 degrees on the Side of the head of the torque wrench to apply the same torque and the wrench is set at. You might need to check out some other mechanics sites if you want more information why this is important.

    Finally! A car repair channel hosted by guys that use the proper tools! That tool kit is awesome. If it were me, I’d put the decals on the outside of the drawers so it’s easy to find. However, I’m sure you’ll get used to the locations of each tool.

    When I saw him driving up your driveway in the truck I was like he’s crazy. Soft ground this time of year. Damn that sucks. I’ve been driving for a while now I like the life in the road. Beats my old job (law enforcement)

    Man, I could watch this over and over five times in a row. I love my tool porn. I have been seeing Teng tools popping up on quite a few youtuber channels. It looks like nice stuff but damn it's expensive! I'm gonna have to stick with my Gearwrench, Tekton, Sunex, ect for now.
