Good to see this. I am old enough to remember Christmas in 1950. It was a hopeful and exciting time. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful! Thanks for posting.
I love this!
Great stuff!
I think it fair to say that the people back then were a greater generation. As a society, we've gone into decline. A wonderful piece of zeitgeist.
What a treat to view this footage. Thank you!
That must have been one proud Christmas Tree to have the duty of bringing joy to men so far from home and their loved ones at Christmas. Thank you for sharing, and thank you for your your service to our wonderful nation. God Bless You.
This clip was very poignant and nostalgic for me. People were less worldly in those days. We had survived a dreadful war and there was much to be sad about. But, Christmas was always a magic time. Thank you for showing this.
Grazie a te che hai messo questo video , te lo dico veramente con il cuore in mano .
I can't stop watching this video; it is so beautiful.
Thanks For Posting This And God Bless All!
To Leo Farland: It WAS reality as I grew up in the 50's. Unfortunately now, there are forces in our society who want to erase it, and say that it was all fake, but what do they know??? Just because they never experienced it, they don't want anyone else to experience it either. Such people are to be pitied!
1950, my first Christmas, thank you for posting the celebrations in other countries.
Anyone who can get through this without crying their eyes out would have to have a heart of stone.
Awesome video my friend. Thank you so much for posting it for everyone to enjoy.
Amen & Amen!!!
Thank you for sharing this video. It made me cry... cry for what our children are missing. Thank God for our domestic Church where Catholic parents can rear their children with the real meaning of Christmas. I'm reminded of what Christ said, "When I return will I find Faith?". Too bad most people nowadays have no idea what they are missing.
My birthday is on 17.12.50.....it was also my first christmas. This film is so beautifull, thank you so much sor posting. ( sorry ...my english :-( )
Thanks so much for these!
Amen and Amen!
See how far we strayed off the path ! Then it was a belief and now it's self indulgence my god have mercy on our souls
This would have been my very first Christmas.
I envy my parents for growing up in this generation... the days before nintendo and tickle me elmos and commercialism altogether. Beautiful montage.
It was not a perfect world in 1950. Yet they still found the capacity to hope. Can we not do the same in a much better time?
the japanese family and the mexican family make me tear up for some reason but the whole video is *beautiful* im 23 years old and christmas has always been about christ for us.through the years wehave had tough christmases and christmases with abundance but every single year we attend mass and give thanks.
This would have been my very first Christmas. London 1950
Couldn't have said it better!!!
Very moving.
Thumbs up if you still go to church at Christmas!
Thank you for sharing this with everyone, aeroeffensmith. The same thing happened with me, the first time I watched this video. When I was young, Christmas was more about the birth of our Savior Christ than anything else. It's truly sad the way things have changed over the years for the worst, and now it is all about greed.
This was when Christmas was all about Christ. It still is in our family. Deo Gratias.
I want Christmas BACK...NOW!!!!!!!!!!
I would give my eye teeth to have America back, like we were in these days. You didn't have people trying to remove Christmas from Christmas, Nativity Scenes from parks, and so forth, and people tried so hard to get along with each other, and love your neighbor. This makes me cry just watching the images, and hearing the true meaning of Christmas( Jesus Christ)in these carols, behind these scenes. We will never return to these days, though. America as we knew it is, gone... forever, sadly.
great video... it was a happier time I guess
I like it.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
Your video clip is great and I've rated it as awesome. I've done another clip on some old cigarette cards of 1930's actors and actresses: Boris Karloff, Gracie Fields, Florence Desmond, Boris Karloff from The Mummy, Charles Laughton, Laurence Olivier and many more.
Why cant Christmas be just like it use to be???? Seeing this is sooooo wonderful! But when I realize what thing's have become just in the last 12 years....I....almost cant handle it!
Yes, Paul. We know.
I would love to go back to this time.....other than the racial injustice, it was a good time
If Christ is insane, then I too am insane for I too believe in the teachings of Christ...In the end, Christ and NO ONE ELSE will judge me...
It's just a Christmas mood piece. lighten up people. I'm not Christian but I have great memories of Christmas in the 50's and 60's.
Ah, Refreshing! Real Christmas! What a wonderful time of the year. Not the grumpy ole grinches that hate everything about our traditions. I say Merry Christmas! MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Do you know that Silent Night is NOT an American or English Christmas carol? It was written by the Austrian priest Father Josef Mohr and the melody was composed by the Austrian headmaster Franz Xaver Gruber in 1859!!
Why didn't they mention Ireland?
I can't agree with you, more mistermister44. Just yesterday, I was thinking about this video. I was born in 1955, and I was thinking about how parts of the world have all but removed the true meaning of Christmas-the birth of our Savior--from sight. Sadly, it is now nothing but a day that people take advantage of for their own selfish reasons.
hear hear
@richieh1980 Shame that you've forgotten that Christmas was first a Pagan holiday. :P
@TheLordBarker Amen! As my screen name indicates.
less than 60 years ago? you say that as though it was yesterday, you re going back before TV was widespread and people only believed what they heard from authority figures.
You actually think, knowing how intricate our bodies are, that they evolved from a big bang. That a little one celled thing became everything that is on the earth. Oh my goodness. I think you will one day, maybe in eternity, regret the way you think. If you are wrong about eternity, ouch! If I am wrong, I won't even know it because according to you, there is nothing after this life.
@copacabana1971 I agree! It is such a shame to see Western Civilization abandon the faith that made it great.
mistersister, I'm 45 and my parents Baptized my brother and me but they didn't take us to church. My mother wasn't raised going to church and my father went to Catholic school. I don't think that the world was necessarily better in 1950 [with the exception that WWII was over]. It's up to those of us who are in Christ Jesus to share the Gospel. How can people know the Way, the Truth and the Life, our Lord and Savoir Jesus, if Christians do not live like they are a children of God?
... sorry, but i miss germany ... and what have you been without your christmas without the germanchristmasfeeling ... there is one day in a year theres nobody think about bad thinks ... no war, no terrible fights ... its peace for this day on earth! ... thats we think so ... sorry, i´m german!
Idiots? No, I don't think so. That was the way they were raised. Don't fault them. Be tollerant. =Stefan=
Actually, there have been Japanese Christians since at least 1570 when Christianity was introduced to the Japanese by Jesuit missionaries.
I am a christian and actually this person is right. It doesn't matter to me tho
the brotherhood of man except muslims
This is nice. But I think we have to aceept that this is not a true representation of reality whilst enjoying this, just as most things are not.
yeah but it was a good time to be a white guy
Quit ruining everyone's fun, iheartbub. Thanks.
You are wrong. Christians do not believe that they will go to heaven because they are good. They believe that Jesus is the son of God, that he died on the cross for ALL of our sins, and that He rose again. For the wages of sin is death and the GIFT of God is eternal life through Jesus. He paid the price, we simply receive the gift by receiving Him. Christians are not "good". They are forgiven.
