Summoning are THE Tolkien themed band out there. Many other atmospheric BM bands followed their path, using synths to provoke all the emotions which Tolkien touched upon. They manage to capture Tolkien the Great's writings in their sound perfectly. The themes of bits of hope, amid great tragedy and loss.

Same. And those are brilliant, but I think my favorite became Silvertine from the latest. Summoning just improves with every release!

The first time I did listen to this Summoning - Long Lost To Where No Pathway Goes I could not believe my ears...what a masterpiece is that?! This is so majestic and beautiful, even though I am a christian now,I still call it so! 🤗

Yooo, on this same album Stronghold, there is a song that has female vocals and you should absolutely check it out. Summoning - Where Hope and Daylight Die Side note: Even during the early years of Mayhem, Summoning had been doing this style at the same time. Since 1991 I believe, at the same time also being a two piece band out of Austria.

I absolutely adore Summoning. Superbly atmospheric

Summoning are in my top 5 favorite bands, if you really like what you hear you would be doing yourself a disservice by not checking them out more on your own. I would start with the newer stuff and work my way backwards. They have a lot more epic/catchier songs than the one you heard. Most of their songs are on the longer side so that would have to be something that doesn't bother you. Some of the catchier songs I think a new listener would enjoy are earthshine and another is carcharoth. Some of my favorites would be of pale white morns and darkened Eve's, menegroth, nightshade forests, mirklands. These guys have a very original twist on metal music, however they were a raw black metal band at one point.

Summoning are so great. Check out their last album. The Herimor track. It is the variation on Edgar Poe’s “Alone”

if you guys want a similar group that will not get you adblocked, Caladan Brood is an incredible group :) They are based off my favorite book series of all time, Malazan Book of the Fallen. Their song Book of the Fallen is my favorite song of this particular style of black metal, i even prefer it to the mighty summoning :) tbh it is probably one of my all time favorite songs. definitely recommend checking it out!

Summoning started out as a Black Metal band (and quite mediocre one) but it is hard to call their current stuff black metal anymore. You can hear the BM roots like the vocals but and tremolo picked guitars but otherwise... Whatever the genre is the current Summoning is a masterpiece. Please do listen more Summoning and add Caladan Brood into the mix. Caladan Brood is a shameless Summoning rip off but a damn good one and when Summoning was on long pause Caladan Brood filled the hole between.

OK, I'm gonna be the guy that says 'Great band, but that's really not their best song.' Lost to Where No Pathway Goes is one of their weaker tracks and not really characteristic of their sound.

Best album from the best BM band... One problem, this is probably the weakest selection from the album!
