CHRISTIANS, ALCOHOL & ADDICTIONS--What Does God Say?

God is looking to train a generation of un-intoxicated men and women to lead and model Christ’s righteousness in an intoxicated world.
God wants men and women who do not succumb to the intoxicating influences that dull, cloud, neutralize, and inhibit their minds.
Any desire, unrestrained by God’s grace, can become an intoxicating idol.
Things like fashion, comfort, convenience, security, work, sports, and amusements can be as deadly and powerful as addictions to alcohol, drugs, and sex.

I continued to drink alcohol upon salvation, then very slowly became to induce slight drunkenness then on and on... Cirrhosis of the liver and hospitalization. No more alcohol from then, with all urge to drink gone. The unsaved were astonished that it was that easy for me thereafter. Trust the Lord to deliver you, to what ever it takes! God Bless.

I know what you mean. He is a good teacher but some have ADD or short attention spans and need teaching that is more to the point. I am getting free from using nicotine pills. It has been hard but God is Truly Helping me. I will tell you what helped me. Reading the Scriptures makes you stronger. Fasting even if it is just a few hours at a time helps too. I have fasted things like watching television. But stay sure to focus on the Lord during your times of fasting. Verbally resisting and rejecting the thing that tries to bind you is good too. One big thing has been taking one obstacle or problem at a time to God and asking now how do I do this? The nicotine pills helped me with my nerves and to lose weight. I have damage to my spinal cord (called a SYRINX) and it can cause problems that the nicotine helped with. So I have asked God to show me OTHER WAYS to solve those problems and He Is Showing me. All Praise to God!

Great sermon! I also come from a line of alcoholics, I myself loved to enjoy alcohol for all occasions. I am 82 days sober today and I claim my sobriety to the Bible ❤ I kept reading over and over about being sober minded and I felt that was the Lord attracting me to read those verses and for me to change my lifestyle. I had tried to stop before many times, or to cut back but always had difficulties but this time it was easy and I’m going strong! In the past I wasn’t as close to the Lord or reading and studying the Bible daily… reading scriptures has helped me in many other parts of my life as well.

I too was raised in an alcoholic family. There were times when I drank daily and times when I would refrain for a while and then go on 3 or 4 day binges. I've quit so many times and then tell myself, "you've been a good boy. You deserve a few beers". The cycle would begin again. The Lord started dealing with me about it. He's been so patient with me. I'm sober now for 2 weeks. Please pray for me. I don't want to be ashamed when he comes. God bless you, my fellow sinners, saved by the grace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus.

I have some exciting news in this regard! Recently I came off of a three day spiritual fast, water only. I was called to fast to overcome my nicotine addiction. On the third day (this is a bit gross but true), as I was driving to work my heart began racing rapidly. To the point I thought I would have a heart attack. I called out to the Lord for deliverance, and I vomited all over myself. Just straight stomach bile, and a lot of it. Instantly, my cravings went away, and it has now been 3 full days without a craving. Unclean spirits of addiction are no joke, and the Scriptures say some may only be cast out by prayer and fasting.

I've been an addict since my late teens. Alcohol, then nicotene, than opiates (gotta love the dr who says no -- it's not addictive -- I take it myself!), then weed. I have been at war with myself my entire life. I have hated myself my entire life. I have quit one only to find another. I have dreamed of being free and have chased it a hundred times. I call it a jailbreak, a day where I wake up sober enough to have a chance of making a break for it. But I always crash. I always come back. And yet while I am away - stoned - I pursue the Lord with all my heart and beg him to release me from my addictions. I see him working in my life. I see him everywhere and I praise him, almost like Paul says, praying without ceasing. And every time I crash I get to experience the joy of finding someone who tells me I get to burn in hell because I am an addict. Thanks, my favorite pastor. Guess you won't be seeing me in heaven. Because I'm not strong enough to do it on my own and He hasn't done it for me.

It's the "works salvation" pastors who will be burning in hell for not believing in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ. The very pastor in this video preached "works salvation" by saying that drunkards won't have eternal life in that they won't inherit the Kingdom of God. Inheriting the Kingdom of God is about the temporal spiritual blessings a born again believer can enjoy when they're not sowing to the flesh. So if you're a born again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ why are you opposing yourself by sowing to the flesh. The King James Bible says a person will reap corruption if they sow to the flesh. Walk in the Spirit so as to not fulfill the lust of the flesh. So what you should figure out first is are you a born again believer? Have you been saved? If not, then seek the Lord while he may be found. If you are saved, then why are you opposing yourself? You're missing out on the fruit of the Spirit which is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, etc., etc. God bless!! 🙂

Both John Barnett and John Macarthur have given us the BEST and most comprehensive understanding from scripture relative to drinking. I love these two men. I'm in a confused state at this point in my life. I was raised around my family, all of whom drank beer and wine. I've never believed from scripture that drinking which doesn't cause an unawareness of the Holy Spirit's presence is wrong. I know the difference between drunkenness and sobriety. I guess I'm not as strong as Timothy, I'm still in pain, ankylosing spondylitis, spinal stenosis and a host of other maladies and at 67 and a "little wine" helps me. I love GOD and ALL who name the Lord Jesus. Again, I guess I'm not as strong as Timothy. I leave you with this, "don't let anyone judge you for what you eat or drink, the kingdom of God is more that food or DRINK", it is love, joy, peace, and patience in the Holy Spirit. BTW, I've been learning SO much from our brother John Barnett!

27:13... I hope u discuss Deuteronomy 14:26 because it's the first and ONLY time in the bible where God actually promotes, yes, promotes, condones, suggests drinking alcohol and wine, strong drink, but to his glory. I think he knew what would happen eventually but since he's fair, he let us see ourselves what happens when we exclude him from something he made for his honor and glory. Today they do the same with fasting which is just, appalling. \O>

Before anyone else answers, I'd like to ask you (truly ask, not being snarky): do you know the difference between new wine and old wine? Also, it being a Pharasee wedding, Jesus partly did this to profane their unbiblical regulations concerning ceremonial stone water pots, used for ritual cleansing (Talmud tractate Baba Metsia if I recall correctly, though that may be the wrong tractate; I don't often study Talmudic nonsense). In addition, the Bible suggests that enjoying a reasonable amount of wine or perhaps even strong drink during festive occasions is acceptable (especially in the Feasts of The LORD). However, drunkenness is never okay, and priests were restricted from "drink". There are many references to such in Scripture, and I will gladly go to them and cite them when I have more time, if you like.

Jesus did this at least in part to defy the Pharasees' man-made regulations on ritual cleanliness. In the Mishna, we read about something which was common knowledge at that time, but isn't so much now. These ceremonial stone water pots were to have "ritually clean" water; such that if a rebbe were to taste any hint of vinegar (fermentation), he would declare it no longer ritually pure. Jesus was mocking the supposed authority of the religious leaders of His day, while demonstrating His own God given, Biblically verified authority. Hope this helps

I guess by number of the desrtuction of families & individuals, alcohol easily must be the single most dangerous drug in the world, its certainly the most socially acceptable drug.. (since b4, during & after U.S. prohibition &..) in most of today's world.. P.S. personally, I always hated the feeling of 'being drunk' from teenage experimentation with frienfds & all my life since when i'd have had a tipple on social occasions, < most others, i've often noticed, if i feel an obvious anywhere near-drunk effect, i just remember wishing to & actually getting driven home by some sober or a taxi, I recall telling ecactly why when friends asked. I'd go & lay hoping it passes & remember it feeling like some poison when taken to the degree of long before it gets in the way of normal balancing. I didnt 'get' the whole 'drunkenness enjoyment" thing. My sins did & do lay nonetheless but elsewhere, still. I'm very glad alcoholism was never one of them.

Romans 13:8-10 KJV Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. [9] For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. [10] Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. So true be like the Bereans: pastors say Commandments are for the Jews! Here Paul is preaching to Christians at Rome and he is telling them to keep the 10 Commandments, not to steal, kill, committ adultery! Then how is it pastors say 10 Commandments is only for the Jews?
