Paul Simon added it to his Playlist and he told David Draiman that it is better than the original. Paul wrote it to be sung that way but the record company wouldn't allow him to because they were folk singers. David was classically taught, he was trained as a Cantor. He had the flu and a 102% fever on the live Conan show.

You would likely find even more inspiration from the official video of this song by Disturbed. It's quite powerful. But a bigger screen than your phone would be better. It's so beautiful.

I believe music is truly a spiritual entity. I feel all my emotions through listening to music and believe if people really listen to music and love it they will be moved to. One song that always moves me to tears is Hallelujah. To me it is the purist of songs along with giving highest praise to God. Simply put music is beautiful and life can be expressed in music through all genres.

David Draiman was trained to be a cantor and comes from a long line of cantors. This is my favourite version and so much better than the original version he recorded. avid was unwell when he sang this on Conan O'Brien's show. Paul Simon, who was only 23 when he wrote this song, says that this is his favourite cover of this iconic song.

This song was brought from the past to let us know what is to come if we don’t wake up and stop the silence and speak out for our young generation, but we are being lead like sheep and people are afraid to speak for fear of being silenced. This is a masterpiece written by Simon 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

It's so strange to hear a Christian perspective after having left the cult years ago. I was a missionary and worship leader, but looking back at the brainwashed version of me it's like looking at a different person. I guess if you don't cringe at your past self, you haven't grown.

As to Paul Simon's meaning - his explanarion: “One of the biggest hang-ups we have today is the inability of people to communicate, not only on an intellectual level, but on an emotional level as well. So you have people unable to touch other people, unable to love other people. This is a song about the inability to communicate. It’s called, “The Sound of Silence”. - Paul Simon 1966 You can see/hear him say this before they begin their performance here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dpeu2NyEqrGykrg.html

I would like to see you react to Cris Kläfford "Cold at the Altar". He is a Swedish musician with a great voice. My interpretation of the neon gods is advertising. The neon signs that screams out buy me in order to get a better life. We worship ads/consuming, and forget the thing in life that is important, people and the connection between them.

My interpretation is the television. When the song originally came out tvs were just coming into regular peoples homes. It was a golden time back then. Now look around you! People looking at their smart phones. 'The people bowed and prayed to the neon god they made' indeed. But for me both songs are like bookends and about the messenger. The original song is about the messenger being a young idealistic man that has a very dark message and the song was his vision, a very dark vision but he is trying to reach out to people. Disturbed's version is the messenger who has walked the world and is a lot older. He is still trying to reach out to people, but he is getting angry and frustrated. What is worse is that he is seeing his vision coming true.

I know that you have a message. Watching you react to the masterful cover by David was refreshing. My fear is that when you find out that the voice you like was trained as a Jewish cantor your enjoyment might be tainted. As a 'Christian' rocker I fear that you and I have more differences than I do with David. The voice that I as a Catholic man listens to and who truly enjoys the discipline and training that was instilled to a believer who is an elder brother in God can not be denied as being a gift. David may have fallen away, as have many of us as a secular society have, but his foundation is strong. I truly enjoy this version, even though many may think it is 'ungodly' because not only was it sang by a jew but one who was trained to sing as a jew. David has a beautiful voice that was granted to him by God and I hope that all of us can appreciate that.

Hold on to the Memories, Reason To Fight, The Light and Inside The Fire. Inside The Fire is when David's girlfriend committed suicide and he was the one who found her. Reason To Fight is one for addiction. Hold On To The Memories are about people who have passed. The Light from what I gathered is about not giving up on yourself because of something bad happens to you.

Dude, there's no mention of "Jesus" in the song. Is it impossible for you to understand that the power of spirituality isn't always about a specific religion: that people can share a connection of love and understanding among others without labeling it one ism or another, Both the writer of the song and the man singing it are Jewish, a faith that is being violently attacked by members and preachers of monstrous misinterpretations of Christ's very simple teaching: "Love your neighbor as you would love yourself" When you take a miraculous song and rendition like this and use it as just another prop to proselytize then you just missed the entire meaning of the song itself. People hearing without listening, It means being so full of yourself and your beliefs you can't or won't understand anyone or anything that may challenge those beliefs. Next time, chill the hell out and just enjoy the music.

**christopher worth** I agree with you and i have gained that opinion myself over years of studying various religions and their beliefs. The bottom line throughout seems to be the basics: love your neighbor, do good deeds, help those needing help, honor your God/Gods (or Goddess/Goddesses), be honest, dont steal, slander, kill other people - you know, on & on... All that said, please recognize that this reactor is reacting within his own own personal beliefs, but that doesn't make him wrong. I didn't think he said too much throughout the video & even seemed to be aware of not wanting to disrupt much. He is fullfilling his destiny, so try not to be so hard on him. Peace & love.🎼🎶🤘🥀

The final message is about truth - the words of the prophets- that come from the neon light - and its heard in the sound of silence "For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be" Matthew 24.27 The neon light that split the night The thing is that it says people bowed and prayed to the neon god -they made-????? What the profets say is exactly not to bow down to men made idols but the REAL ONE Unless you understand the neon god they made is not the neon light that gave the truthful message in the end, the message of the song is just confusing. Also the author saying its about the fact that people don't communicate? when he's saying the words of the prophets are being revealed in the silence - completely confusing and not trustworthy at all
