Please lets just stop, The only people who aren't subjected to the one drop rule, are those whom are recently mixed between White and Black. Every black person outside Dark-Skinned-Black Africa, and in the Diaspora has admixtures, of Native America, Asian and European to some degree. Every Black man or woman think light skin is pretty and fine, so not to upset anyone and be politically correct, everyone can fit in the African American or Black biracial category.

His isnt considered to be part of the "one drop rule". The dominant race is black in his case which comes from his fathers side hence the dark skin. Which we will just say is 50%. Most mixed people will say they are black..nothing wrong with that..

***** exactly..I guess at the end of the day it's your preference but for me I have to acknowledge all my racial backgrounds because it means more to me than those who just conform and go with the rest of the crowd..but usually if you're mixed but look more black u just stick with that because most people see u as that but if u do looked more mixed people will always bring that out and ask u through their curiosity.

***** I'm mixed, and I am extremely fair, but I grew up with my black family, and most people who speak to me on the phone assume I'm born and raised in the Caribbean. I relate to, I act like, I gravitate to black or African culture more than anything else. I was taught by my mom that I am black, and this is what I am. Race is not my focus anyhow. I have more important things to care about. I definitely do not want to associate myself with white though that's for sure. I'm either mixed, or black. Either or works fine.

reealitey That sounds just fine to me..who u choose to associate with is your choice but as long as u acknowledge all parts of your mix because u can't escape that even if u decide to blend in with only one side..I'm a dark tan but still don't look black so blacks don't really accept me and of course whites don't because I'm not white sooo I blend in perfectly with my spanish people =P..we get along very well and they also resemble my culture a lot too so it works..I'm always running around so proudly acknowledging all 3 sides of my mix Middle Eastern African and Brazilian

***** honestly, it sounds as if you have the issue more than others do. I am probably lighter than you based on your description of your colour (I have Mya, or Alicia Keys' complexion when they are not tanned), and I know some black people who don't fully accept me, but all of my friends growing up have always been black, and I don't need to be accepted by all. I've never had a white friend. I also understand that it has to do with where you come from as well. My city is one of the most multicultural cities in the world, so people here are pretty decent. I usually went to schools where I can count the amount of white people in my school on one hand, so it's also about where you come from as well. I think white people do not know what I am usually, they just know I'm not white. I can fit into many cultures as well. During World Cup Soccer, I can join any country pretty much and cheer along. I am just most comfortable with my own Caribbean people from the African Diaspora. That's all. Peace

"Correction is an important part of our growth as Christians. From the day we become saved, we have things in our lives that need to be worked on and improved. God is the one who helps us through this process, mostly by correcting us of our erroneous ways. God takes delight in those who take correction because it shows that they are willing to follow His guidance in their lives. A major part of loving God is being obedient; taking correction is a part of that obedience. Dear God, I pray that I will always be someone who takes correction well. May I never become proud and think that I am above improving my ways. I do not desire to veer into foolishness, Lord. Guide me accordingly, Father. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth." Proverbs 3:11-12

The question probably should have been "What is your racial background?" French is a nationality, but more than likely he was saying his mother is White and Native American (Indian) and father is black. Black/African American is not a nationality but refers to race. If he wants to identify as Black that is his choice. We don't know anything about his experience to say what he should call himself. Halle Berry has a white mother but identifies with being black. It's really up to the individual. But if it were me, I'd say I'm mixed race but prefer to be classified as black. That way I'm acknowledging my makeup but embracing what I identify with most, which is what he basically did.

He answered the question she was intending to ask. She was trying to find a polite way to say, "Are you black? You don't look black." She was asking about race and his answer shows that he understood her question. Also... using French instead of white is intentional way to address race. If he said, white it would be assumed that he means American white... French says that she's partially white from France. Having said that, I don't think he is disenfranchising himself from his mother's side... and neither is it a critique. It's just who he is. You're suggesting how he classifies his identity is wrong by saying what you would do if it were you and why you would do it. This isn't about you though. I don't mean that as a criticism I mean that to say both of you can be who you are without it being criticizing. His identity does not reflect on you and yours doesn't reflect on him. Choosing to identify as one race over another does not lessen the importance of the other. If you're mixed... great! If he's black great!

His nationality is American. His ethnicity is Creole. If he considers himself African American... cool. I’m Creole too. My mother’s side is Native American and black and my fathers side is French, Spanish, and African. I don’t consider myself African-American though. I’m not African. Nor am I black. I’m mixed race. My skin is brown, my hair is coiled, and my eyes are brown, so to people who only focus on skin color and hair texture as a sign of mixed genetics, I’m just black. And when I say otherwise, I get called a self hater. I’m not black. I’m Creole. A very proud Creole and I’m waiting for the day when Creole ethnicity is recognized.
