I have a Christensen Arms MPR in 338 LAPUA. With most factory ammunition it shot 1-1/2 to two inch groups. However with 247 grain Ruag Swiss P Ammunition it shoots 1/2” to 3/4” groups. I have worked up several hand loads with 270 grain ELD-X 270 grain and also Lapua 300 grain OTM Scenar and even Nosler 300 grain RDF. All of these hand loads consistently shoot sub 1/2” MOA.

I've had two different friends comment about similar issues with the Christensen Arms MPR (.338 Lapua and 300 PRC) while I was in the market for one. I decided on the Savage 110 Elite Precision, in 6.5CM, because of these reported problems. I'll assume the groups at the 5:20 min mark were 100yd - Thanks for a great review.

I’m looking to get one of these in 6.5 Creedmore. Someone had one in 338 Lapua on consignment. I can’t believe how light these are compared to my Ruger Precision.

I’m surprised you kept buying them after the issues with the first one. Heck even your other ones have issues with the magazine, wouldn’t drop $1500 on that let alone $2200

What’s the total weight of each of your 6.5CM rifles? I’m planning on getting the MPR but with the 16” barrel, either in 308 or 6.5CM, for NRL Hunter matches (production division) and also for hunting.

I am happy with the three I own. The 300 win mag had to take several trips back to be fully sorted out. The two I purchased in 6.5 creedmoor came perfect from the factory. I will warn you that since the time I made this video Christensen Arms quality control appears to have continued to decline. Both ranger 22 rifles I recently purchased had to go back for repairs. My local dealer that is one of the biggest in my state is dropping them because they are tired of dealing with returns and repairs. If the price was right I would still buy one but at normal retail I would probably not purchase another one.

Thanks so much for the review! TLDR : 300 win mag rifle recommendations anyone? I have been trying to figure out what title I want to get and I have been hearing alot of mixed reviews about Christensen arms. Mostly bad tho. I wanna get a rifle for precision shooting and hunting in 300 win mag but am having trouble figuring out what to get. Anyone have any recommendations?

I have the cross in 308 and the mpr in 6.5 creedmore with a 22or 24” steel barrel.. the cross is a good rifle very lightweight but not as refined as the mpr. The mpr has a smoother action and in feel/adjustment and fit and finish. The q fix vs the mpr I think is a better comparison price wise. but the q’s action is a little stiff and the butt stock is very small. I would buy the mpr again but in 308 in a steel 16” barrel and another 6.5 creedmore but with a carbon barrel for pack hunting. The 308 for a SHTF do everything rifle and my 6.5 creedmore with a steel barrel for prs.

My Christensen Arms MPR .338 Lapua shoots premium hunting ammo horribly. I bought the gun to hunt with. I have shoot 6 different variations of hunting ammo and 2 different reloads and none shoot SMOA. They don't even get close. CA does not care because according to them because of one round of Premium Lapua brand competition ammo shoot sub MOA, the warrantee is satisfied.. To me they are the most questionable company out there. They brag about what a great hunting option the MPR is but do not stand by their warrantee using hunting ammo. If you can offer any recommendations on getting it to shoot well it would be appreciated.

I reload so that help. I am sorry to hear they refuse to do anything to honor their sub moa garentee. My honest opinion is they will be the next Remington which is disappointing. They have always been good about fixing anything I send in including for accuracy issues. They have terrible quality control.

I researched and finally bought the Christensen MPR in 6.5 PRC (short action, magnum caliber). Love the rifle, one of the most accurate I’ve ever shot long distance. 1000 yards? No problem. However, the gun doesn’t cycle properly. Insert a loaded magazine and everything goes to hell. The cycling is atrocious. I’m used to cycling without moving from the scope. With this rifle you have to get up off the gun to cycle it for your next shot. I love it for its accuracy and hate it for the action. I sent the first one back to the factory, it came back no better (service is great mind you, but the problem wasn’t fixed). I asked for and received a new rifle. The scope rail was canted. I sent it back and received a third. Best of the three, but still not a smooth action. Everyone loves it at the range, except me. Bottom line: they named it the MPR for PRECISION Modern Rifle. I couldn’t be more disappointed. I won’t buy another Christensen Arms rifle.

Have you tried using a different magazine? Cycling issues in a platform using AICS mags is usually mag related. I've had the best luck with ARC, AICS, and Magpul brand mags. Everything else I've used has been hit/miss on whether or not the mag would bulge and bind.

The weight restriction are basically a way from keeping people from using mobile artillery for hunting. That way road hunters are shooting animals from a mile away.

  • @TheFullNeilson

That's a load of bs. Make a rule no mobile artillery if that's a real concern. Instead we have some indirect bs rule that in no way even slows down the guys shooting at game from miles away.

@@TheFullNeilson you realize i didn't make the rule right? The idea is they don't want people with 375s, 408s, 416s, 50s shooting at animals at extreme distances. And saying it doesn't stop people from shooting at a mile is like saying "laws don't stop murder so why have laws". Like I said i didn't make the law, don't shoot the messenger. Your more than welcome to send the IF&G an email, and while your at it, tell them to ban guided hunting.

With all due respect why get a nice rifle and put a scope hardly good enough for something like airsoft? I am not a scope snob but man Arkens are not good optics. And not sure what mounts you are using but for example the top scope appears to be resting on the barrel which will really wreck groups and possibly the scope. It is like buying a nice car and putting retreads on it. I just don't get doing that. Yes I know some cheaper scopes can perform well but long range shooting needs proper tracking, it needs great glass so you can spot your misses and hits. The bottom rifle seems to have a Spurh mount which is good.

  • @TheFullNeilson

I have owned 10 or so scopes in the 2k-3k price range. I now own 7 arken EP5's. They all track as good as any of the high dollar scopes I have had and the glass quality is better than the pst gen 1 and 2, Burris XTR 2 line etc. Have you used the EP5? Also the scope is not hitting the handguard of the rifle.

Who knows my guess backpacking a rifle that’s “too heavy” has a greater chance of causing fatigue and that means the game warden has to spend funds to go rescue the person… just my guess🤔🤔🤔
