The Christian life is the redefining of the self. In his letter to the Colossians, Paul explains that since we are united to Christ in faith, we can therefore put off our old sinful self, and put on a new self that has been raised with Christ. We cannot be saved by adding anything to the work of Christ-not obedience or tradition or good works. We are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, and because of Christ alone. Believers have been covered in Christ’s righteousness, so what is true of Christ is now true of us.
