Christ, Our Hope in Life and Death (A Capella Hymn)

Christ, Our Hope in Life and Death
Words and Music by Keith Getty, Matt Boswell,
Jordan Kauflin, Matt Merker and Matt Papa
; ©2020 Getty Music Publishing / Messenger Hymns / Matthew Merker Music
Jordan Kauflin Music / Getty Music Hymns and Songs / Love Your Enemies Publishing
A Capella arrangement by Michael Lining
This arrangement puts the melody in the bass/baritone low register for a mellow, expansive choral sound. The tempo is slower to soak in the meaning of the text and the low harmonies.

Beautiful arrangement once again. I find myself trying to guess who is singing which parts. So far, unsuccessful. Enjoying this...

From left to right it’s usually always tenor lead bass baritone.

What a beautiful message and performance. We need more bass and baritone in these days of constant attacks on everything masculine.

I appreciate the support, but I would not equate higher male singers to not being masculine. God made some great tenors! I try to use the full range that God has given me. But it is true that it seems that the tenors or higher male voices seem to “make it” more!

@@MichaelLiningMusic Yes I'm aware of that and for the past 4 decades there hasn't been 1 popular deeper voiced male singer.

@@MichaelLiningMusic in fact, the only deep voiced singers I can think of offhand in recent decades or going back many... George Yonce of the Cathedrals Big Chief JD Sumner & Barry White in pop music Oh, and the Statler Bros & Oakridge Boys but who knows their names...

@@bryanrendleman2001 I am familiar with many of them. I enjoy Avi Kaplan although he is secular. I actually consider myself a baritone but have lately been exploring the use of subharmonics for lower notes. It seems to be working at least in layered recordings, my baritone register is definitely the most resonant.

@@MichaelLiningMusic Yes I agree. You sing every part beautifully but your baritone is divine. I've tried to remember some more deep voices and only 2 country singers come to mind. So there is definitely a bias against deep male singers in all music genres.

The Gospel is 1ST CORINTHIANS 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are SAVED, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that Which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: . Romans 10:9-13 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the LORD JESUS, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be SAVED.10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same LORD over all is rich unto all that call upon him.13 For Whosoever shall call upon the name of the LORD shall be SAVED.

How do you decide what harmonies you are going to sing? I don't know too much about acapella music, but for the "accompaniment" how do you figure that out?

The top ones are singing the chorale parts, the bottom row in black-and-white is singing backing vocals only, I just did it for visual interest. But the bottom row is definitely more of an accompanying role.
