You can't compare her & Kanye though really. It's two different fanbases. How many Kanye West fans are there compared to Chrisette Michelle? And how many Kanye fans would also claim to have been fans of Chrisette? Also Chrisette alienated the main demographic of her fanbase. Kanye's fanbase hasn't been majority Black since at least 2006. The main people buying Yeezys are whites, Latinos & Asians.

@More iz Lyfe It’s not about giving men a pass. It’s the reality of the situation. Chrisette’s fanbase was overwhelming Black and she pissed off Black people. If you go to a Kanye concert, Black people are a minority. The main consumers of his Yeezy brand are non-Black. I’m not saying Kanye wasn’t ignorant, I’m saying their situations aren’t that comparable because the demographics of their fanbase aren’t the same.

Chrisette is ABSOLUTELY right!!!!! Travis Greene blew up after his positioning at that inauguration celebration. She was canceled. Not equitable! Hmmm... I don't think so. If you remember at the time, there were many Black artist like Jennifer Holiday who were slated to perform. Jennifer LISTENED to the outcry and how we, as a people and her consumer, felt about it and she canceled her performance. Chrisette was almost defiant in her stance, saying that she means to only heal and unify. Who designated her that vessel of healing for a white man who had a known history of mistreatment of people of color? So when she brings Travis, many of us thought she was trying to pacify us through gospel because who can be mad with God in the mix? He was seen as a prop. She was asked to perform not him; he was her guest. Ultimately, she deserved to be canceled. I am a fan but when you spit in the face of those who support you, there will be repercussions. She paid a hefty price but I await her return.
@jazzybash1
3 жыл бұрын
Yes I honestly was disappointed in both of them at the time but I never stopped listening to either one’ music. I honestly didn’t think it was fair that she got canceled and he didn’t. I mean look at Tina Campbell, she said she was voting for Trump and her album that came out that week sales were down and she got canceled. And then people tried to cancel Kirk for cursing his son during a private argument that they were having for which we didn’t have much background knowledge to judge. SMH, cancel culture is a mess. They canceled Tina and her , then Travis should have been canceled too if we were going to follow that logic. It wasn’t fair at all

But even if they stood up for them, they still would’ve gotten treated differently because they’re women. Look at how people use to call Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears whores because of how they dressed. I am so ready for this. :)
"People will rush you to evolve" I felt that!!!!
She was never canceled for me. Mistakes happen but that black balling was ridiculous but people still wearing Yeezys out here.
She also performed with Travis Greene, an upcoming gospel artist. Was he "canceled"? No. Only women get canceled. 🙄(Hell, they even performed *HIS SONG* which was and still is a #1 hit) I loved her first album. When she made this decision I knew there would be backlash and I didn't agree with it myself. But to make a decision knowing the entire Black community is looking at you is *so much pressure.* She is an amazing talent and I'm so glad she's doing better mentally, physically, and spiritually now.

I hate that she had to be held accountable, but he didn’t. So unfair to her!

In 2016, the only person I knew on that stage was her. I had no clue who Travis Greene was back then which is ironic because I got to meet him a couple years ago. I didn't even remember he was there until they said his name in this video. I agree...black women always pay the price. He escaped all scrutiny! While I was a bit hurt that it seemed she was cosigning 45's bullshit, I still love Chrisette. She has come out on the other side stronger and preaching...lol!
I cannot wait. I love her music and personal journey she's been on. ❤❤
I absolutely love Chrisette Michele. She was literally the very first concert I attended in life. One of my favorite songs by her would have to be “A day in your life” from the tv show Girlfriends. Her lyrics really resonate with the soul. 💕
I loved this conversation because while I didn’t cancel her, I still gave her a bit of a side eye because I was unknowingly holding her to a higher standard than the other performers. This was not fair because the standard should have been equal.
I love how she expresses herself
I need her to be my therapist....she just solved 2/3 of my issues
When I say I LOVEEEEE this lady, I mean it!! She’s dramatic but it’s her . It makes her the unique artist she is ! We need more of her now a days !😭
I’m really glad she said this , and that you Terrell, gave her the safe space to do so. 💜
I love this woman! She has been my favorite singer since I was in the 5th grade and I'm in my twenties! I'm so happy that she is still here and making music!
She didn't deserve that treatment. God brought her out, she is not a people pleaser.
Lissssen when she said ppl will rush you to evolve!!! I felt that. This is something I always say when talking to ppl about life after loss. People will rush you to well because your grief and growth is uncomfortable to THEM.
I'm glad she spoke publicly about it, finally. This was an amazing space for her to do so. Thank you for your platform, Terrell.
