There's a funny story about this bit. This routine was filmed in North d.c... most of the black folks in that area have good gov jobs, college educated, it's def a middle class black crowd. And they loved the bit. Next week he did the same show in Oakland.. the audience had a lot of ganstas in it.. and they were threatening to kill him for calling them stupid. Security and the police had to rush him out of the venue as soon as the show ended. Shows the divide, at the time, amoung black folks.. 2 totally different cultures amoung one people. Goes to show you can't pigeon hole anybody because of their color. There is no broad brush.

@@stevenwilliams1805 absolutely. I lived in Arizona for years. And there is even a huge cultural difference among nations in that one state. The white mountain apache are far different from the pima.. and both are far different than the Navajo. I had friends among each and I swear I could tell which nation someone was from by their mannerisms.. long before they told me.

I know there's all different types of crowds that is totally true but if people can't laugh at themselves when a lot of it is based on truth and history and I'm talking history just like the last 30 40 years I've never been to Oakland so I can't say what it's like there but what I can say if you open up a business that's restaurant or Club related in any City if you start attracting people that are going to scare other people away your business is not going to make it! And when I say the people that are going to scare business away it doesn't matter the race it could be black it could be white it could be Asian it could be motorcycle clubs it's a very complex situation for what example look what happened to Baldwin Hills Mall which is now a ghost town it could happen anywhere in any City in the world and if people don't believe that then just continue to believe that everything is fine in the world Chris Rock just had the balls to say it

Yes and no. What other communities tend to do differently is that they throw their trash out. This is exactly what Chris attempted with this bit, finally throwing the trash out, but it wasn't well received among a large proportion within the black community.. amongst the.. you know who. When blacks start standing together and throw the n-words out, it only can uplift them. Police relations will improve, because there is no anti snitching code within neighborhoods anymore, which only serve to protect the criminals. The public perception will be better, because anyone can see the community trying to clean house and distancing themselves from those elements.

Chris Rock is the king of observational humour and plays on the fact that the negative behaviours of the few can unfairly affect the perception of the many in any community - we would do well to remember that. BTW - I've only found this channel recently and while all of the boys seem grounded, the lad in the orange stands out as a free-thinker. He knows his stuff and articulates it really well . @@cupcakefangirlxp6530 I'm a fan of chris Rock not so much Will Smith at the same time I know nothing about either's wife though have hear various claims regarding Smith & Pinkette & no sure who's wife wanted to sleep with Tupac. The only wife I heard Tupac sleep with was supposably Biggie's estranged wife Faith I think. But if someone is separated or divorced I can't exactly blame anyone for sleep with someone else. Still sleeping with your rival like Biggie & Tupac east coast west coast thing at the time was all hyped about that seems extra cold of the Faith. Again I dont think that's what your talking about but honestly I can't imagine any woman let alone a wife wanting to sleep with either Chris Rock or will smith. So will smith's wife supposably wanted to sleep with Tupac or Chris Rock. BTW I grew up loving everything NWA West Coast rap & Tupac. West side for life no respect for Suge knight though but hey. Biggy was alright i guess but the rest of East coast using tracks already released usually in different genres & then putting "rap lyrics & terms to it like Puffy did drove me nuts calling that rap but it sold I guess.

Will Smith had no points before what he did let alone after serious. Name a movie in the last 10 15 years that will smith starred in alone that actually did well? The last movie I saw him in was Bad boys 3 & that was a joke but to be fair it wasn't his fault completely that movie series had long needed to be put down but people still went until 3 & thankfully that killed it for the most part.

When you watch these older comedy specials you have to remember that we all laughed at each other back then, and had an ability to laugh at ourselves as well. So, people could tell jokes back then that they could never get away with today without being banned or people needing a safe space or their career being ruined by comments on twitter. Back then, nothing was off limits.

It raised the bar on what you could get away with and the simple observations no one had even thought to make a joke of. I suppose we had about 15 years of freedom from this (1996) until around 2011 when stuff like this started getting censored and today... you'd certainly not be viewed the same way as this was back then. A legendary stand up show, maybe the best ever done. I got my own joke (stole from a black guy of course, what do you expect when I'm white)...... Will Smith knocked on Chris Rock's door the day after the academy awards and said: _"I heard you got slapped?"_
