Just picked up a new Umnumzaan Tanto in Magnacut! Glad they moved up to Magnacut pretty quickly. Loving the knife so far!

Nice review. I like the color mod you had done. I've been looking out for one of these for a long time but they're hard to come by. Thanks for the review!!

Very few knives with the quality, feel and looks of the Zaan

This is the CRK blade that appeals to me. Blade shape catches the eye, more than any other blade they do. Jeff here Marco, Ann's Hubby. another great review

The CRK tanto is probably the most usefull and atractive tanto blade out there!

On the waiting list for one of these. Love ❤️ the Looks and Action. Not every knife has to be a fidget toy, though I do have plenty of those! Great review? 👍

Are there any "slicers" (e.g. behind the edge thinness of 10- 20/10000) usng "thin stock"? Or are they all "hard use" beefy blades?
@KnivesoftheRoundTable
Жыл бұрын
Let me check on the thickness behind the edge, Im not sure. The Sebenza is your best bet since it has the thinnest blade stock (0.12 vs 0.14 of the Inkosi and Umnumzaan) and it is hollow-ground. After that maybe the Umnumzaan; its as thick as the Inkosi but hollow ground vs the flat ground Inkosi.

Great review. I love my large Inkosi. Question: Why is S35 and S45 blade steel looked down upon? Is there something one is getting in the mentioned M390 that isn't in either of the aforementioned steels? Correct me if I'm wrong as well, but I believe Chris Reeve was instrumental in the creation of S35-VN. I doubt most can tell the performance difference between all of the "SUPER STEELS".

Its not that they are bad steels, its just that at this pricepoint they could do better. All steels have a balance of edge retention, toughness and corrosion resistance and M390 just does better in all categories. This link has a chart where you can see it more visually creelyblades.com/steel-charts

If you have ever tried to sharpen an M390 knife, you would wish it was S45VN!…. It’s put on a theoretical pedestal which most manufacturers cant reach using suboptimal heat treatments. M390 has, in a perfect world, a greater potential. However most people would never notice the real world difference. That said, my FOMO would also unreasonably like M390 on the Umnumzaan I’ve ordered. We are not sensible creatures!…..

So if a guy has never owned or handled a Chris Reeve knife would the umnumzaan be a good choice to make or should he start with the Sebenza 21? The Umnumzaan looks amazing!

In my brand overview I recommended the Large Inkosi and you can watch that for my reasons. But the Umnumzaan is amazing, especially the tanto. Its my favorite tanto, of my entire collection
