Chris Rea - Tell Me There's A Heaven Reaction

Музыка

In this video we're listening to another one from Chris Rea. We really enjoyed Chris' singing and guitar work, and we are eager to hear more of that in this song. Let's dig in. Enjoy!

Thank you for playing this as a Great Grandfather we are always confronted with difficult questions from the young and have to chose how we answer them sometime even questioning our own response sometimes. Peace out.

I'm non-religious and this touches me very hard. Makes me cry every time. So much injustice in the world... and people who have hijacked morals telling us, all the suffering is ok, it's all god's plan.

A critic once described Randy Newman's Sail Away as a vision of paradise superimposed upon hell. I believe Rea does something similar here. This was the closing track on his album Road to Hell. As the title implies, the album is about his disillusionment with life. He doesn't know what to tell his daughter when she confronts him about the suffering in the world. He purposefully uses cliches, platitudes, bumper stickerisms to make it clear that he does not believe ("they're in paradise", "they're happy now"). He wishes he could. He needs to. But he doesn't. You don't have to be a believer to appreciate it. In fact if you think this is for believers, you've missed the point. It is a piece of brilliance by a gifted artist at the top of his game.

as @serict956 said "This song was inspired by the questions Rea's 6-year-old daughter, Josephine, would ask him. She was horrified when a news report came on about unrest in South Africa that showed a man being burned alive. Josephine began asking questions like "what is heaven?" In this song, Rea helps her cope by assuring her that there is indeed a heaven, even though it doesn't explain the atrocities that happen around the world on a daily basis."

Not a religious person myself, but I do love this song. The thought of children being abused in any way is enough to bring a year to my eyes, and enough to make me wish there was a heaven for these victims. But sadly, I just can't buy into religion

My wife really gets this because her father was abusive to her, her brother and her mother, then she married a guy who was just the same and was beaten on a regular basis. It took years for her to trust me fully. I love Chris Rea, he's really talented and his voice expresses real emotion when it's called for.

@liveitup6688 Thank you. Believe it or not, it took her about three years to realise that if I cuddled her, that it wasn't always about sex and that I wasn't going to blow my top. It affects her mentally even now because it was such a trauma.

@@colrhodes377 That is terrible. I couldn't imagine being fearful of a cuddle. I have known people who grew up around tension, and had no fond memories to look back on when thinking of childhood. And then to bare the trauma. I assume you didn't have such a traumatic upbringing yourself. How did you meet her?

@liveitup6688 My upbringing was different but also had its negative effect. My dad was terrible with me and just assumed that if something went wrong, then it was my fault because my siblings were angels. He never believed I was his, but then again, I'm about six feet tall, my dad was five, four, my mum, four, eleven, and my siblings much shorter than I. Also, I'm bald and grey , whereas they have lots of thick hair. So you can work the rest out 😂 It was because of that that I decided that nobody in my life was ever going to feel threatened, and I protected my family ferociously. When my son was threatened by some undesirables, I took all three of them out. I hate bullies.

@@colrhodes377I can see why you would be protective of your own family. It's something every parent should be. I also hate bullies... Although I do admit to have never been bullied in my life. I mean, one girl at my school was being a bit of a smarty-pants towards me, and my sister, Hayley (Countdown kid), called her ''Einstein''. That seemed to shut her up. Hmm... That's not much a story. 😐 I do commend you for showing up those undesirables and putting them in their place. Can't help but think it's interesting that you turned out looking so different to your siblings - and forgive me if I am being a tad too familiar, but I think your father was a dick for the way he treated you. If you don't mind me asking, how did you meet you wife?

Oh come on - you missed the point completely! This isn't for people who have religious beliefs. It's about not being religous. He just wishes that what his daughter was told about heaven could true.

All the most painful videos with pictures of abused children and babies seem to have been taken down. THOSE are the videos that will tear you apart. You would have truly cried. I know I did. And this isnt a religious song per se so you dont need to be religious to appreciate it's message.

Chris Rea has written and recorded very good music during the past 40 odd years. I haven't gotten deeper than his hits but I've always respected his way... This song is nice and deep and I see why people requested it. Me and a few others have been talking in a forum and we're pretty keen to see reactions to these: The Reels - Misused Abused (visual + audio merge 2023) Australian Crawl - Boys Light Up (2023 Remastered Version) The Sports - Live Work And Play (visual + video merge) And Aussie groups you have not yet checked out.... The Stems - Tears Me In Two nzoz1985 The Saints - (I'm) Stranded nzoz1977 The Angels - Take A Long Line nzoz1978 The Angels - Coming Down nzoz1978 Hard-Ons - Girl In A Sweater (audio + video merge 2023)

It's funny. I checked an old comment I made on The Reels and it was kinds negative! What kind of weird mood was I in to make this comment? *hate to be a negative Nancy but the only song I liked by this band was their take on the CCR song ''Bad Moon Rising''* (comment on Kitchen Man). What kind of bullshit statement is that? I loved The Reels when I was 11 or 12. I had the first album and the 5 Gifts EP, and Misused Abused was a party favourite. I liked a lot of their songs in the early 80's. I checked that that particular Misused Abused clip. Cool footage of Crystal (Seaview) Ballroom. I attended a few Crystal Ballroom gigs in the mid 80's. I am not so fond of that Australian Crawl song, but I would like the Haniers to react to it. The Sports were one of my favourite bands of that time, and I have always enjoyed ''Live Work & Play'' - so of course I recommend it. The Haniers need to do ''Tears me In Two''. I saw The Stems live in 1987 and they were great. I hated The Saints, but I do have a soft spot for ''Ghost Ships'' (recommended) and ''Just Like Fire Would'' (recommended). I'm neither here nor there with The Angels, and I can't stand The Hard-Ons. I think the Haniers should pick from at least the four I endorse.

@@DogInSpace The Saints and Cold Chisel never did it for me and the Hard Ons was just punk junk. I thought ''Stranded'' was just boring, and Chris Bailey worked on my nerves whenever he was on TV being interviewed. He always talked like he had sinus congestion. I didn't mind some songs by The Angels. Actually, I recommend ''Out Of The Blue'' out of all The Angels songs.

I don't actually see this as a song for 'believers' as such, but as one that challenges that viewpoint. If there IS a 'god', then why are these things continually occurring, & have done throughout human history? I'm a lifelong Atheist myself, so the religious aspect doesn't affect me, because I discovered years ago that, in general, people are pretty rotten animals, deep down, & the sooner you learn that, the sooner you'll learn how to avoid them!

Ha, Ha.. Sorry to tell you guys, but I really did think you two were religious. I made this assumption when you two were watching the ''Nick The Stripper'' video by The Birthday Party. I thought you, Cynthia, were offended by ''Hell'' being scribed on Nick Cave's chest. I guess I misread your facial expression. Hayley and I were raised Catholic (we're of Irish stock) before we converted to Countdownism with Molly being our long-suffering divine messenger of Pop. Speaking of which, I actually got Chris Rea's autograph when he performed ''Diamonds'' on Countdown back in '79. He was quite a nice man.. Seemed a little overwhelmed by having all us girls handing over notepads and records for him to sign. I request ''Let's Dance'' and ''On The Beach'' (two of favourite Rea songs).

lol@Countdownism. That show was like a damn religion! It was on Sunday nights, so I guess it fits... I also assumed the ''Nick The Stripper'' video had offended their religious sensibilities. They never spoke about being religious, but here we are making wild guesses... Best not to judge a book by the cover, so they say.. That said, you do look like one of those Countdown kids.. I don't know why.. but Countdown kids had a particular look and you look like a Countdown kid. My cousin was one of you lot and she looks like you. Just sayin'...
