Lyrics
Between the eyes of love I call your name
Behind those guarded walls I used to go
Upon a summer wind there's a certain melody
Takes me back to the place that I know
Down on the beach
The secrets of the summer I will keep
The sands of time will blow a mystery
No-one but you and I
Underneath that moonlit sky
Take me back to the place that I know
On the beach
Forever in my dreams my heart will be
Hanging on to this sweet memory
A day of strange desire
And a night that burned like fire
Take me back to the place that I know
On the beach

Actually he had a HUGE selfish ego up to the point he became ill in ‘91. Turned a corner. Became a better person. Life if a school. Great artist.
Fun fact: Chris is a major star in the UK. He has a staggering 18 gold or platinum albums there, yet merely one in the U.S., which curiously did not go gold in the UK.

July 1986, I was on Grand Comore Island, one evening driving from Le Galawa back to Mohroni just passing the airport, looking out at the most spectacular sunset over the ocean, Ken popped this album in the cassette player and on the beach came wafting surreally through the speakers of our beat up transport, for a brief moment we where transported into another world, winding our way along the coastal road towards Itsandra, fruit bats swooping around in the pink and purple sky as that huge fiery orange orb of a sun started settling on the horizon of the Indian ocean. Time was forgotten as we became entranced in Chris’s words. Such a sweet memory during a very difficult time in my life.

I love this song. It always reminds me of this hot night of may when we were driving through the city with my friend. I was 20, the night belonged to us, I felt so alive, as if I could not be anywhere else but here at this precise moment. It was as if the Earth was shrouding me in its warm and welcoming atmosphere... I still remember the city lights and this aesthetic emotion I felt. Take me back to te place that I know...

Until now, and now I am trying to heal myself because Chris looked like Andrew Dos Pechos and gave me rohypnol to sleep and placed me in a position asleep? as a form of ritual copying 1944 and Debbie Marie Howard 1949, why do these rituals exist? What is the point of these rituals. That is what I want to know? Why do they still continue? Is it a form of ownership? Because nothing in corfu happened like that???? I am just trying to understand? You knew I was frightened of holes since 1980, and you didn't care! Still did it anyway. I am trying to understand the reasoning behind it???? Poor Mary. She thought I stole her boyfriend when it was a date rape drug. I wouldn't steal another person's boyfriend.

@@calfencer I heard that amazing song playing regularly on the radio in California, back in 1986. It took me over thirty years to find out who's song that was.
A maestro of the '70s, kicking off in the UK in 1978 with "Fool if you think its over" written for his young broken hearted sister, and with many top compositions following including this in 1985, evoking perfectly the blend of summer sun, sea and surf, with that gorgeous red & white theme to the very catchy beat. Such talent, rarely recognised these days of blurted grunge, but his music from that great 70/80s era remains his testimony. A valiant survivor of a tough time, go Chris!!!

How powerful was this song/video? I saw it twice on Mtv back in the day. I was drunk both times and waiting for sandwiches in the middle of the night, both times in the 80s, in Knoxville, Tennessee. Never saw it again until KZread in the 2010s -- but probably not the enhanced official version. Never forgot. Went looking for it, such was its affect. Chris Rea is a master. This is not his only masterpiece. My list of hopes is a short one. I have one that involves England, that is to see Rea in concert live. It wouldn't hurt to witness this one, but I have a list.

Beautiful music, I grew up with the music of Chris Rea. I saw Chris Rea on a TV as a guest in the audiance1989 as a child. My mother went with me as the adult guardian.
Absolute nostalgic trip to the summer of 1986. A different era, different world. Reminds me of a better time, when our loved one's were alive and well, sadly, no longer with us. Ah! 1980’s, the good old days. They were golden, we were poorer, but happier.
This song definitely has some Smooth Operator feeling
THE BEST summer song ever made! PERIOD!
Lovely song, and the most perfect simple effective guitar riff. In the video, at no time, are Chris and the lovely model, shown together.
This beautiful song always reminds me of the years I lived in Miami Beach, close to the ocean. I don't live there anymore (housing prices have skyrocketed) but I go whenever I can. This song makes me want to live close to the beach again! Take me back to the place that I know on the beach...

A mis 64 años tengo la suerte de ver la playa desde mi casa en Benidorm, España. Dios te doy gracias, todos los días.
Sat back with a glass of Malbec listening to this sublime track👌
The moment I heard the start of this song on the radio I knew I would love it - this genre (soul?) of music. For me, it invokes feelings and thoughts so dear. Much of modern music seems to increasingly distance itself, based on fad or fashion etc, from one's true heartfelt yearning. Thanks Chris for arousing deep seated sentiments that are rarely felt in today's 'brash, ambitious, fame driven' world. I play this song everyday.

An unforgettable song that conjures up the experience of the beach... Love All summer long, Daytona, curse of the traveller. . Josephine.... E... What an incredible voice and a great guitarist....!💖
When musicians cared and women were natural
Chris has such a distinguished voice ❤
This song played in my mind for like 2 weeks and I forgot the name of the artist and the name of the song. I knew the sound of the song, and I thought it was on the pier ... I searched for a few days and found the Chris Rea. I probably last heard it in the early 1990s. This song is one of those classic gems ... the guitar sound is an audio masterpiece along with his vocals ...
Unfortunately this song was never played in America. Fool if you think over, was the one and only song played in late 70s, early 80's.He's got amazing talent. I'm so glad I discovered him again. Can listen to CR everyday. Love him.😘

This song was a staple in American supermarkets. I always used to hear it while shopping for groceries. It wasn't until the internet that I finally found out who sung it.

I like this color-model in this video so much. Every single sceene is buildet in the colors sky-blue, the beautyful red of a sundown, and the beige of the sand. Proof it. I think there is an connection of this color-model and the feelings, this video want‘s to deliver.

CLICHÉ! Now what about a stunning dark hair chicken next to you on your two doors Jaguar from the 70ties?
I happened to be in Perth during this song when on air daily. That was 1987...very soothing

The cinematography is as perfect as the song itself.

Jason Lee Perfect is a relative term and I was just trying to describe how I felt about how well the video and the tune complemented each other. This music video was one of the early attempts at such as MTV was turning the music industry on its head at the time. Kind of like when talking pictures replaced silent movies.
