3:04 as chris prepares to kill, he starts to distort time and space
Every solo of his is like a history lesson in jazz tenor playing. His first few choruses are Dexter Gordon, then Coltrane, then Henderson, then Brecker, then himself. jeez.

+Autodidactus Communitati I don't think he's doing it intentionally, and I wouldn't associate Dexter Gordon's solo style with just playing rhythms... CP is a product of his listening and he sounds like himself the whole way through.

Nah there a good number of isms Chris uses that definitely reflect a Dex-like style. Some of his Lestery vibrato to cap off phrases, some his phrases outright. But yes he does absolutely sound like himself the whole way through.

I think it's just how he builds into this solo. The layers and textures build ultimately into a crescendo that is uniquely him. He is a master at his craft and can do absolutely anything.
Man I was there in the audience for this Im pretty sure. I remember not “getting it.” Hahaha I was a dumb kid. Awesome solo Im glad I have another chance to actually appreciate it
2:19 was stuck in my head for a bit
Amongst the billions of people on this earth there are thousand upon thousands, perhaps millions of us who have and still play the saxophone. There is and will forever will be only one Chris Potter. The rest of us are still just practicing.

Might be the greatest solo that I have ever heard.
You know the world is against you when even your drummer is talking over your solo. Damn, that's cold!

Man I have never heard a more uneducated comment, I hope this is a joke. The drummer is Adam Nussbaum, one of the best of all time he knows how to be respectful. They were talking about whether to trade or whether to play the shout chorus and take the tune home. You think the bass player, whos another great, Rufus Reid, cares that they're talking down the plan for the tune.
What the fuck, Chris! You are summoning the demons this way!

Adam Nussbaum is spectacular on the tune. CP solos are classic.
I got to go practice
is that Mr Nussbaum at his kit? My focus kinda' shifted that way instantly)
Sh!t…I need to shed 🤣

Can someone please get Mike from Breaking Bad his sticks?
The Bassist is Rufus Reed. I agree Chris gives a historical journey in his solo. And when he plays like him, its really amazing saxophone playing.....His sense of time and timing while he is soloing (other than Brecker) is the most incredible I've ever heard..
HOLY SHIIIIIEIEEEEEEEETTTTT
I was at the camp for the first week haha, but I saw him the year before. He's freaking great.
CP great, as usual. Love his embellishment of the head. But Adam Nussbaum... best I've ever seen him. He was locked in on CP and drove him. Great accents, dynamics, tonal range and textures, the hand playing, his nice drum break and at the end great use of silence. I love it when drummers just dance behind the set - get their whole body moving fluidly, their whole body creating the pulse. Just marvelous. The sound balance was bad but that's just the room and the recording.

These guys work for decades on their tone, their sound, and the subtle nuances in their playing. Then, someone goes and records it on a shite device and makes them sound like a tiny 1960's pocket transistor radio. WHY FFS?
Why are these titles so passive-agressive?
Wow and holy $#%^&!*ing crap. If I was not Canadian I would have been in your camp. Donald Trump probably listens to Justin Beaver....lol
The drummer on this was playing way too heavy. I couldn't hear the piano player during the last part of Chris' solo! That would drive me crazy trying to play a solo in front of that.

I think the drummer is Adam Nussbaum. He's typically like that. I think it would be easier to digest if it were a better-mixed recording. It seems like Chris doesn't like eating the mic...

Jeff Sandberg Don't believe that is Nussbaum. Unless he decided to shave his head and get plastic surgery. True, there isn't really a close up to make sure, but his face looks different, he's considerably heavier and bald.

I saw Adam live with Brecker with Breaker back in the late 80's and I don't remember his volume distracting from the performance like this.
