Chris knew the rodeo cowboy life-style inside out and here he gives a funny account of living life in the fast lane as he tries to make one of those rodeos. This tune reminds me of C.W. McCall's tune "Wolf Creek Pass" #4 in '75 which similarly was a fast-paced, zany tale about a guy in a hapless situation. Chris was one of the prime influences on Garth Brook's career and is given a name-check in one of Garth's best tunes, namely "I'm Much Too Young To Feel This Damned Old" # 8 in '89. Another excellent reaction/rating, Don, and keep rockin' dat country.
Thanks Don. I loved your reaction to this great song and for doing my request. I lived just north of were Chrisis Ranch was at. I lived in Buffalo Wyoming and huge flocks of sheep are often moved from pasture to pasture using dogs. They will cover the entire road from fence to fence. All you can do is stop and wait thats what makes me laugh everytime I here this song. I can actually see this clearly playing out. Keep up the great reactions.
I sat here laughing at this song. I had never heard it before and I totally loved it.
This is my favorite song by him
Love that song.
Mr. LeDoux wrote this back in the day.
I know it's 3 years too late, but this song is, for the most part, a true story, the real life story is chris and his family were racing for the Cheyenne Rodeo, got pulled over by a cop who recognized him and gave him a police escort to the rodeo so he could make it in time. The song was kinda of a what if he hadn't had such good luck. The story is in the book Gold Buckle Dreams, a book about Chris's life and desire to wind the Gold Buckle at the National Finals Rodeo that's held every December.
I wouldn't be surprised if this a true story. Chris was the real deal

It based on a true stort, read his book gold buckle dreams. He tells the story in it
The best part is the end of the song. "If I could do it again I wouldn't of drove so slow." I always listen to this song on my way to a rodeo. I listen to a lot of Chris when I head to a rodeo.

With a name like Lane I expect you to listen to this on the way to a rodeo. One of the best songs Chris ever made. It was his life. His mad dash to the finish at every rodeo. The man is and was a legend. The top of the class of human beings and cowboys. That man is an icon and idol for me. The way he lived his life.
Heard Ledoux ,in an interview or something, say his rodeo songs were based on real events,so with that in mind you gotta react to Hippies In Calgary, even more humourous than this 1
He has a song even cowboys like a little rock 'n roll

NEVER get out of the vehicle when a cop stops you- unless he tells you to! From one who spent his life in law enforcement. Pay attention to these words and you'll save yourself a lot of grief! Great song! You gotta love Chris LeDoux!
I love this one and Take Me To The Rodeo
A couple suggestions for more Chris Ledoux songs - Bareback Jack, Reride, Silence on the Line, Riding For A Fall, and Our First Year.

James Hagerman. I couldn’t have said it better !
I lived in WY for 7 yrs and I know those roads too. Chuckle Love this one ! Having met some hardcore Rodeo Cowboys I can imagine more than one having at least one story that is in that song. LOL I'm sure Chris had heard them while Rodeoing himself He was brilliant at describing the life and the Characters he'd met along the way.
One of my all time favorite songs
This is one of my favorites! I know my brother has lived this story several times!

@Stuart Sellars Thank you--glad you like Chris, too!
You should react to Chris's song 8 second ride.
I remember when I suggested the first Chris song - Airborn Cowboy
Bareback Jack!
This song brings to mind Tom T Halls - A week in a country jail. Same tempo fun story.
His son sings most of his songs including Copenhagen. Ned expects the same thing his dad expected, all the audience throws empty cans of Copenhagen towards him
Clear as Earnest Tubb

@Jaimeson Meza Thanks for the encouraging observation!! And hell yeah I'd love to go to the rodeo. Almost went when they had PBR up here about four years ago at Madison Square Garden, as a friend of mine would've gone had we both known we were both interested in going. She'd been to a few in her time and loved it. I've been to a tractor pull, so I'm not totally green. Ha!!
Tell me that would be the greatest music video to this day
I don’t guess anyone truly knows the entire story except for those that are closest to Chris but I do know this was based on a true story Man would I not have loved to been on that run it’s not only one of my musical heroes but my rodeo heroes as well God bless Chris LeDoux you should do you wanna Dan Robert songs if it’s the Dan Roberts that requested that he’s got some pretty cool songs one called Viva The cowboy and so many others Dan Roberts actually Wrote part of Garth brooks beaches of Cheyenne I think you’ll really enjoy Dan’s music as well one of my favorites by Dan is there’s a little cowboy In all of us :-)

I wondered if there were elements of truth in the lyrics. It has the right of authenticity. Wouldn't you love to hear the "real" story? Rodeo guys are a unique breed.
I don’t know if anyone has suggested the artist. But Ryan Bingham has a ton of great songs. “Lay my head on the rail” is a really good one
