Hello friends and welcome to another by request song tutorial. In today's session I'll be teaching you how to play Chris Isaak's 1989 hit song "Wicked Game." I'll show you how to perform the rhythm sections on acoustic guitar, before breaking down guitarist James Wilsey melodic lead guitar lines on my Fender Stratocaster. Let's get started!

Dude, seriously - good job. Not many vocalists could pull this off so well.

I heard this song for the very first time during a commercial for Beverly Hills 90210, back in ‘91 perhaps. Loved it then, still love it now.
Came for the tutorial, stayed for the singing. What a great voice!

Let me just say this....I never got to be in band even though I begged my parents and my guitar as well.as playing has suffered all my life the way that you bring in the count and teach the melody is what 99% of students need including me and I'm 50 years old....absolutely amazing job of instruction..just saying

@@zentime8047 true, but James Calvin Wilsey played this particular song, was instrumental in creating Chris Isaak's sound, an died in December 2018. Yatovitz didn't join until Baja Sessions.
And yes, rest in peace Mr. James Calvin Wilsey! One of my all-time favorite guitar players of the last 25 years! What a genius you are!
This is so good! Your voice, the playing, everything! Good job!!
Easiest guitar teacher yet easy to follow clear directions
Could I like this video a second time , please ?
Heard this song for the first time on the way to a friend of my cousins Catholic funeral. He died in a car accident and though I didn’t know him very well, I remember him and that tragically surreal day like I’m living it all over again whenever this song pops back up in my life.
Nice job on the vocals too.
Drags me back to the '80s, as a student. I was obsessed by Chris Isaak's soothing voice; and, of course, the hypnotic, haunting guitar chords. Beautiful job!
Thank you so much for making such an effort to slow things down and be deliberate so your average guitarist doesn't have to work so hard to see and really understand what you are doing.
Best lesson I’ve found on KZread for this hauntingly beautiful song.
I'm from Brazil and I'm very happy to hear that someone took a class teaching one of the best songs ever created, thx u!
One of my favorite songs on the guitar. And I love your version of a beautiful song....thank you for making my snowy weekend warmer. God Bless you Brother....
Rob man, this is SUCH A GREAT LESSON. Its such recognizable song for the guitar, and makes beginner to intermediate players sound advanced. And its such a great example of using the tremolo bar to make beautiful musical transitions rather than just the classic 80's hair band engine roars (which are fun too). You explain things so clearly and anticipate the questions the viewer will have by elaborating on each part. Thanks again!!! South Jersey here in the house!
You know the old saying; “Sometimes less, is more” well, this song the definition of that adjective! This is a GREAT song! Less is CERTAINLY more on every single instrument in this song, & it Just fits perfectly! It is simple...& that’s why it’s Beautiful, along with Isaac’s voice is what makes this will written, very well played and greatly sang song beautifully GREAT!
Wooooooow! Really Nice Voice! My mom really loves this song and that’s why I’m learning this so thanks to you I can make my mom proud! Also I agree with David Maclean, who would dislike this video?! This video is awesome!!!!! It teaches both parts! Never seen that before! Thanks so much!
Blew my mind with the one man. I never put a lesson in my favorites folder, but this is the first one! I not only learned some new techniques, I got moved man!!
You are one of the very few that can pull this off as well as Chris Isaak. Fantastic job and love the way you sing and play it. What else can I say.
Yours are the most masterful and well designed guitar lessons that I’ve ever seen. Fantastic job! Thank you. You took it in bite-sized, manageable steps… I always believed this song was too complicated for me to play.
Brings back memories. I learned this song while I was in prison. Squier Strat, pig nose amp. An inmate had rewired the guitar where the pickup selector was backwards. After I was released, I looked up my band mates. My suspicions were confirmed. I was the only member of the band who wasn’t a sex offender😇

My Das can’t breathe right now 😂😂😂😂)
The production qualities indicate true dedication to the teaching process!
I've been wanting to learn this for years, you taught me it in 15 mins. Thanks for this!
Wow! I'm sure I've never come across a better lesson! I'm a beginner but now I don't feel afraid to try this fabulous song. Thank you so much for doing this for us!
Believe it or not, the add just before the lesson started used 'wicked game' as a soundtrack
Oh yeah one more thing, I have no clue who this guy is teaching this lesson and I have been playing over 3 decades but I subscribed because he is a great teacher. Even guys that have played for a long time hit KZread to get a start on a song to try at the next jam session. So, if you have not subscribed to him, you better, he keeps it simple and is a great teacher pointing out the important things. I was just too lazy to pull out the guitar in all honestly. Thank you for sharing with us all my friend I'll refer you to others as well. Rock on my Brothers and Sisters
I got chills. I like the timber of your voice. It works very well here. Stellar job.
Wow! THANK YOU for this great guitar tutorial...and HOLY MOLY...your playing and the tone of your voice are incredible!!!
Hey Rob, I've been following you for a couple of years now and you always impress 👍 Thank you for another great lesson.
Really great lesson, and one I had been wanting to learn. I've been enjoying this since you first posted it! Thank you!

So, here it is a couple years later and time to revisit this wonderful lesson! I’m going to see Chris Isaak open for Lyle Lovett and his Large Band here in the not too distant future so it’s time to make sure I can still play this! Next I’m going to have to request a lesson on “Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing” by Chris and also “I Married Her Just Because She Looks Like You” by Lyle!
Was looking for a guitar lesson and found this gem... Seriously amazing talent. Thank you
Well thanks to you and your great vocals , guitar and video I can play this now, when I seen and watched the video I thought I could never do this but your well taught lesson gave me the confidence and I’m enjoying playing this song now. Thank you!
Beautiful song, always loved it! And you are a very good, kind, friendly, and patient guitar teacher! Kudos to you! And thank you very much for this fine lesson!
Two songs today that twigged my ears today.....this.....and Mazzy Star's Fade into you......low and behold, same chords....just difference sequence.
Fantastic tutorial. This is my fave song of all time and I play it on the ukulele. But this song is literally the reason why im buying an electric guitar very soon. Thanks for this brother!
Smooth rendition followed by an easy to follow lesson. As always. Thankyou very much
What a lovely rendition of beautiful song. Well done young man on all counts. Bravo
Rob is awesome and always gives a full demonstration with a great singing voice before the lesson. Very few KZread guitar instructors do that.
I have been looking for this tutorial of Wicked Game for years and you nailed it. Thanks a million!
Excellent lesson video. You are obviously one of the better KZread guitar teachers.
Brother, I want to thank you big time for doing this lesson! For me, this song represents the epitome of cowboy twang, which is one of my favorite genres of music. This song aways reminds me of my days in Arizona, which is my favorite state in the Union. I could listen to this song all day and never tire. I have been dying for someone to do a tutorial on this song for years. You finally answered my prayers. I will practice what you have taught here until I can play it as well as you. You just made my day! Thanks!!!
Rob, That was a fantastic cover and perfect lesson, great singing and playing very inspirational! I've always wanted to learn this one.
You are a fantastic Teacher. There are some really great People in this World. You are one of them. Thanks.
This is by far the best guitar lesson I have seen on you-tube 👏. Thank-you.
Man, you are awesome. I just started learning guitar this February and your lessons helped me play this amazing
Wow! Great approach to teaching! I think you're of the best channels for guitar learning I have come across. Nice way of using the closeups in your videos. I think it helps a lot, especially for beginners. Thank you for such a detailed explanation and extra stuff you mention in the lesson. Great singing voice!
Spot on. This is how you make a video. Flawless instruction. Thank you!
This guy is an excellent teacher. I wish I could have taken lessons from him years ago. This is the best tutorial for this song.
Hi Rob. That was fantastic singing and playing. Your lessons are so much appreciated. Thank you.👍👍👍
From France, thank you Rob. Playing guitar seems easier and easier, just by following your lessons.
I’m newer to guitar and this was a great video to learn this song. Broke every part down and was really a great job. And pulled off the vocals!
Great lesson, 'can't wait to get started on this lovely song. Thanks.
Played as sad and hopeless as it could be. Absolutely Perfect! Amazing cover!
The lesson was great but the picture on the wall is what made me click the like button. It's absolutely bad ass.
That was really good I was impressed on how you were thorough and showing each portion and made it very easy to see what is taking place within this song you're very good
By far the best lesson out there!
Excellent job! Great song saw Chris live years ago playing this. He is one cool guy.
Man you just nailed that song beautiful job thank you
I like how you started the video off with the whole song and then did the lesson, good stuff.
Good job Brother. Minimal needless talking inbetween changes that make you forget where you were at in the first place. Very professional and straight to the point! I got it the very first time. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise with us.
OMG!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! iv pertty much had the lead packed down but was so so puzzled on the retheme. so simple. i know all be watching this again. this song i been wanting learn so bad. now i know all be able 2 play it over and over and jsut keep getting better at it over time you made it so simple thk you.

This is so good man. Thoroughly enjoyed watching this tutorial.
Best tutorial to Wicked Game on youtube!! Thanks from Perú!!!
Wow, absolutely amazing. Great vocals and guitar.
Always the first place I come when looking to learn a new song. Thanks again
Great guitar tutorial and the vocals we're out of the park on this great song! Thanks
Advance song definitely a lot of work on Dynamics and subtle nuance. Most of the greatest hit songs in history are three chords. Our classic rock cover band is going to start doing this song on Thursday. I've been working on it for weeks trying to get the tone and the feel just right. Using a fender vibrolux with two delays and two reverbs to get this tone. Nailed it.
Thank you for taking the time to do this. You are a very good teacher. Great voice also!
Great cover, great vocals, great playing. Loved it and saved it. Cheers. Jim in Scotland.
Every once in a while I come back to get “my fix” Great song It’s has that dreamy vibe. Other than the original your wicked cool cover is my favourite! Your the whole package, guitar chops and vocal chops!👍🎸🇨🇦
Very nice cover of this song at the first of the video. Your voice captured it spot on!
Amazing how musically this is actually very very easy. But in terms of singing it’s a beast
Just WOW., did you kill the vocals on this. Amazing. I just picked up my guitar after a 15 year hiatus. This song is one that I wanted to learn. Thank you for posting this.....
This is such a great song to let those notes ring out, thanks for a great lesson👍
Most excellent cover and lesson. Beautiful song. Thank you.
This just makes my head spin. And convinces me I should just enjoy what I hear.
great lesson brother, thanks. I think your spot on with the sound man.. and excellent explanation of how to play it.
Has to be one of the best song's ever written
Whatta splendid presentation/lesson. Raw talent, so rarely created. Fantastic vocals as well.
Well done, great tutorial. Thank you so much!
In addition to playing that lead really really well, you've got pipes. Great lesson.
best guitar lesson i have ever seen, now if you could teach me to sing like that as well, you did a great job on the vocals. just discovered this channel 5 minutes ago, it is awesome, i will spread the word to my friends. the song is beautiful, dreamlike atmosphere to it great vocals and great band, the live version on youtube is one of my favorite songs and you taught it very well, I am impressed, thanks for posting.
