Brief first drive at Silverstone in the lighter, faster 650 variant. It's a bit fast.

zachary roy I agree Honda makes an outstanding engine, the 2.0 liter VTEC screamer from the AP1 S2000 had a higher specific output than Ferraris of then, and still can trump many turbo engines on specific output today. But man their Formula 1 engine this season is shit. Both drivers have already exceeded their allotment of engines for the whole season, and it's simply down on power compared to AMG Petronas and Ferrari. So yes Honda makes great engines, but yes their current F1 engine sucks ass

Whatever filter Neil used for those exterior shots just makes that delta red pop. Love that color. ^-^ And it is good to see McLaren going down the path of making their cars feel like more the P1 and not be their usual sterile self and break out of that mold, since all the journos seem to classify the 918 as the sensible one, the LaFerrari as the accessible one and the P1 as the overly dramatic one. I'm totally up for the idea of McLaren making some mental machines in the future. :D
@vinsradek
9 жыл бұрын
Roshan Torcy LaFerrari has accessibility, capability, delicacy, balance, emotions and drama packed together in one car. Ferrari makes complete cars, not like McLaren which always delivers just one decent attribute. Porsche on the other hand wants to handle all situations, but in the end, it doesn't excel in anything.

@flyingphoenix113

But, that's not really the fight, is it? The 675LT, statistically speaking, competes more directly against the 488 Pista as the 488 GTB was designed to take on the 650S, not the 720S. And, no offence to McLaren (and I say this as someone who's been around silverstone in a 675LT as well), but the 675LT is just not the driver's car that the Ferrari is. That E-Diff in the Ferrari is a superb piece of engineering, and it far outclasses McLaren's rather cheap cop out of the open differential. Plus, magnetorehological dampers transmit far more feedback than McLaren's hydraulic system (largely due to the presence of anti-roll bars).

@autopost859 жыл бұрын
What i like about the 675LT mostly, is that though being a light version of the existing car, you cannot tell that at all, by seeing welds for instance as with Ferrari. Mclaren really sorted out this car. They started with the MP412s with problems and not such as good design, moved to 650S (improved things), and now they got a real competitor for the Ferrari, not only how it drives, but mostly by the looks. 675LT looks gorgeous by almost all angles, feels expensive and drives as good as much. Good job Mclaren!

What's the point of buying a supercar anymore? Six months later there will be an upgraded version with more of everything. These things are all computers these days and in the computer world, six months is a lifetime. The rate of progress has made each new model a brief glimpse of light that will be forgotten by the time the upgraded model comes along. There will be no more F40's and the like that will be remembered for decades. It's as if these high performance cars have become a disposable consumer product, much like high end mobile phones.

I prefer ferrari's solution as well. An lsd prevents "the problem". Brake adjustments correct afterwards. The advantage with the brake adjustments is that it is a bit easier/cheaper to torque vector, just like the brake steering. I think that is why Mclaren choose to go this route, but Chris should ask them ;). It shouldn't be much of a problem to add an lsd to the mclaren though, that would be awesome.

It was shocking to say the least......
@randomguy3281
8 жыл бұрын
David Lyon Your words are too kind. I know Americans are cool and all, but no need to try and flatter them, even they could not make a 650hp engine in 1965. But then again, they did land on the moon a few years latter, so who knows. I just don't get nationalism. It is pretty stupid to think that one piece of land yields any better people than another piece of land. But of course if you really think that way then I wounder how you will explain to Ford GT, or better yet all of Tesla, you know that company that is redefining the industry. Or about how with Koenigsegg, Sweden, is ruling the hypercar game over Britain, Italy, Germany, France (if you consider Bugatti french), and indeed America as well.
@davidlyon6394
8 жыл бұрын
Random Guy Quite simple really. Look at the supercar stable on the market at the moment. 95+% of the current super car crop are manufactured in Europe, Japan or Scandinavia and that has been the trend for decades now. The Ford GT??? Wasn't that the car that Ford launched with a terrible reputation for build quality and reliability so much so that a number of GT owners sent their cars back to Ford for full refunds. You cannot bring the latest generation Vette into it either. I've sat in one, the interior is constructed of poorly finished plastic and the body panels on the outside do not align properly at all, the gaps are of different widths when comparing one side of the car to the other.

zachary roy I agree Honda makes an outstanding engine, the 2.0 liter VTEC screamer from the AP1 S2000 had a higher specific output than Ferraris of then, and still can trump many turbo engines on specific output today.

@vinsradek

675lt vs 991 gt3 rs vs 458 speciale! Yes please!!
@flyingphoenix113

I love the bits that you show of various parts of the car. I geek out about those marvels of engineering like you do. Keep up the great work Chris!
"...and I reckon I can probably get myself about 120 quid on ebay..so, all good" We can easily see that he is relaxed, natural, and close to his viewers. He also drives these kind of cars the way they are built to be driven. We need more car journalists like him! Good job Chris! (and Neil :) )

RAJohnson713 Yes, the roadcars have open diffs, but they use electronics to apply left or right braking to simulate an LSD. And the damper control also might have something to do there. The GT3 race cars run a real LSD though.

Excellent video as always!

It was shocking to say the least......
@randomguy3281

@davidlyon6394
Stunning car. And amazing video as always. Thanks Chris!
