My favorite of all time! The most polite and lady like on the court, tennis has ever seen. Always enjoyed her and Martina's rivalry! She still has records that have not been broken. Beautiful lady!!❤

back in the 70's and 80's only merifats had the cash to play tennis. now that euros have some cash they destroy burgers. the 2 castrated males ( and the newly cut one ) don't count. Thats the only way meris can win anything these days : cheating

Chris Evert was as graceful, classy, and fine a player as there ever was.

The game has changed so much. Chris and Martina. Then Graf and Sanchez Vicario or Seles. So much respect for the opponent. Chris was a great,gracious champion. It was hard to watch when Martina started dominating the rivalry. Then Graf came along and became my all time favorite and the best to ever do it. Pure Class

Graf was a great player, but I'd disagree that she was the best. She had been usurped by Seles, who won six out of the last eight slams before she was stabbed. Graf could only beat her on grass by then. Without that terrible, evil incident, no way Graf would have been beating Seles in non-Wimbledon grand slam matches.

And it’s not just the ones she won. She played 40-some straight Grand Slam tournaments in which she made at least the semi-finals, which has to be one of the greatest records of consistency in all of sport.

Here are the actual stats Different ways of measuring this consistency. 1. From 1971 US Open -1987 Wimbledon Championships: semifinalist or better in 48 of the 49 Grand Slams she entered, during her first 16 years on the tennis circuit, ( only upset loss was to K Jordan in '83 wimbledon) this includes her 34 consecutive semifinal appearances in her first 34 majors) 2. Only player male or female, to reach singles semi-final or better in each of first six Majors entered. First 6 RG she entered, First 6 Wimb, First 6 US Open, First 6 Australian she entered. 3. Reached 52 semi-finals (92.8%) and 54 quarterfinals (96.4%) out of 56 Grand Slams entered in her entire career 1971-1989. Statistically, if you were not among the top ten players in the world, you had virtually no chance of taking her down in a major no matter what year you played her in 1971, or 1981 or 1989.

I’m 56 so I grew up watching her . I first saw her in person at 11 in Cincinnati in 1973 lose to Evonne on clay. It was her last loss on clay until Austin beat her in a third set tie breaker in Rome , (125 straight). Then she went on to win 64 more. I saw her lose her fifth straight loss to Austin in Cincinnati Jan 1980, which caused her to retire saying so on people magazine cover. She found out after 3-4 months she wanted to come back , she had rediscovered her hunger. I saw her beat Jeager in Indianapolis in August 1980 in 95 degree weather with 90 percent humidity 6-4,6-3 in hard long rallies , I knew Evert was back. I knew she was ready to face and beat Austin. Sure enough she beat Austin at 80 open semis . I believe that without this win there may not have been the 85 or 86 French Open wins. Her greatest non final match of Chrissie’s career and best US Open win. It’s amazing that she won 18 slams and was runner up 16 times for 34 grand slam finals 32 grand slam semi finals , only 4 times failing to reach the semis or finals in a total of 56 grand slam events played. This woman could recharge her batteries more often than any other player which is a reflection of her mental superiority.

And she did all that before retiring at 34 unlike Serena who's going on 40. And Chris Evert didn't even play the French or Australian Open for several years. If she had, she be up there with Steffi and Serena with 22 or 23 slams. Instead she played World Team Tennis to support BLK nascent tennis league. I've always been curious if she ever regretted doing that. I've never seen a video of her addressing that issue. I believe Chris still has the best winning percentage too.

You have summarised Ms. Evert's career brilliantly. She was the most consistent player on your. To reach the semi-finals or better in 52 out of 56 grand slam events played is phenomenal. We all know if she had played the French in 76, 77 and 78 she would most probably have won. That said had she played Australia more than 6 times (especially in the 70's) she would have undoubtedly added to her GS tally. Above all else her career is defined by more than just her amazing winning percentage of 89.97%. Her steely, calm demeanor on court; her concentration; her respect for the sport, the other player, the umpire, the officials; her longevity, her graciousness....these are really the standout elements of her stellar career

I used to love watching Chris Evert play when I was a child growing up.

What a pure champ she was.....

.900 career win percentage. No one today will ever top it.

I don't know about 25-30, but it would certainly be 20+ In her 20 year career she only played the Australian 6 times, winning 2 of those. The only reason Court has 11 AO titles is because nobody went down there to play. I don't know why Evert ever skipped a French Open. She'd have won that thing 9 or 10 times if she'd gone every year.

J M the reason why I think it’s at last 25, is because she only played the Aussie Open ONCE in her first 10 years playing from tennis, in ‘74 I believe. As terrific a grass court player as she was at Kooyong, I definitely think she wins 2 or 4 more Aussie Opens. She skipped the French from ‘76-‘78, when she was clearly the best female clay court player in the world...so that’s 3 French Opens she would’ve won in my opinion. That puts her at 24-25 Slams already

I love the way the women shake hands and put their arms around each other at the net.. such comradely...

Her reaction to winning her first major title was so subdued, like she had done it before and it was no big deal. It is strange seeing that kind reaction as she showed so much more excitement in her other major wins.

My favorite tennis player!

Evert always maximized her chances in slams. She made sure she was sitting among the final four ready to grab every possible opportunity in those last two rounds. Maybe Martina or Billie Jean, or Evonne or Jaeger, or Mandlikova, or Austin might meet her, or maybe they slip up, but Evert was virtually always at both her quarterfinal and semifinal appointments at every stage of her career. She reached the semifinals 93% of the time she entered one. She won 65% of those semifinals to get into the record 34 finals she reached, and then won 53% of those to win 18 majors. You can't win a slam, if you don't close out the 3rd, fourth round matches. You don't win a slam if you let some hot new talent take you out in the QF either.

Very underrated as a player. Yes, she won all those Grand Slams, but I feel commentators today don't talk much about her brilliant game.

The last 2 played twice as fast as the first ones… tennis evolved so much in that period of time, be it training or racket technology. Kudos to her and Martina for constantly adapting to these evolutions and staying at the top for such a long time.

The most technically perfect groundstrokes of all-time. And her consistency was remakable. Those that think Evert would have been whipped in this era? Think again. She would have much more power on her groundies, similar to Seles, and would been easily better than the best players in Serena's era. She also would have given Serena all she could handle, especially on Clay.

I agree. She is almost the architect of today's game. With the new technology she would have been a lot like a female Djokovic. Her backhand would have been winners all over the court and her serve would have had more sting.

I agree that she would have done well in any era. But her weak serve would have left her vulnerable to Serena's amazing return...she wouldn't have had a chance. I still rank her as the second greatest female player of all time, based on results, next to Martina N. Steffi next, then Margaret Court (who could be ranked first, if you include the amateur era), then Serena. This is based on results.....Overall match wins, winning percentage, tournament wins, slam wins, slam finals, slam semis, domination at her peak, weeks at number one, weeks in top two, weeks in top ten. Serena leads her in slam wins and weeks at number one, but is way behind in the first three categories, which, to me, are the most important. Chris also skipped 9 slams at her absolute peak, when she was world number one, because the Virginia Slim tiurnaments were considered more important for the women players

@@joemarshall4226 I disagree. She would do what she needed against Serena. Don't forget that Chris' return of serve was one of the best. I picture Chris being a more consistent and better shot maker version of Martina Hingis. Martina Hingis and Chris' game were similar in many ways. Neither were power players but had very good court sense and expert strategists. The big weakness with Hingis was her mental fortitude. Chris had that in spades. Had Hingis had Chris' mental fortitude, she would have won twice as many slams if not more. She beat many of the more powerful players many times.

@@theexmann Serena's 125 mph serve would be tough for Chris, who returned serve when women rarely broke 100mph. I think it would be great to see them go at it at their primes. Both were great competitors. But even Chris says Serena is the greatest player. I thin Hingis was very tough mentally, but she injured her foot and had to quit.

yes i can not imagine anyone else in today's era maintaining that kind of consistency. thats something that set chris apart from all the others. her high level of consistency is unparalleled. if i'm correct i think she never lost before a QF except once and that was for sickness.

@@jaquan6499 well it was twice...once at Wimbledon 3rd round and Paris 3rd round...but UNBELIEVABLE consistency!! A record of 13 years winning a Grand Slam I don't think will ever be broken. STEFFI is my GREATEST ever and she did 10 years, so that's saying alot...NEVER a loss in first, second, 4th rounds.

Had Chris played Australia from 1975-80 (missed 6 times) and French 76-78 (missed 3 times) during her dominant prime, she would have won at least 4 more GS titles, and brought her total to 22 minimally. Martina missed some of these as well so it is plausible she could have won one or two more herself, although this was not during her prime years so it may have less likely she would have won, but definitely possible.

You have to think Chris would've had a very good chance to win the calendar year Grand Slam in 1976 (the only year in which she won both Wimbledon and the US Open), when she was really in her prime and clearly the best player in the world.

Evert poor lolipop serve was sitting duck for Steffi's inside out FH. Chris was lucky to play tennis at the right time when Women's tennis was not that physical. Frankly in 90's & in 2000's she would have been as successful as Hingis in singles.😉😉

She lost 10 GS Finals to Martina Navrailova( won 4 ).

I was born in 1982, and one of my earliest tennis memories was hearing my mom get annoyed when people would say Chris' last name wrong. She would say, "It's not Everett, it's Evert. Evert!".

Serena and Steffi may have more GS Titles but Chris Evert is the greatest female tennis player in WTA history. Her rivalry with Martina Navratilova is the best in any sport ever. They faced each other over 80 times including 14 GS Finals. Evert was only 4-10 against Martina in GS Finals but against all other competition she was nearly unbeatable. Her incredible will to win is unmatched.

Interestingly, Chris would have won many more Slams had she participated in the French Open in '76, '77 and '78 - a time when she ruled on clay, going unbeaten from 1974 to 1979. She also did not participate in the Australian Open from 1975 to 1980 as many top players did not play the fourth Slam back then. Had she done so, she may well have surpassed Margaret Court's record of 24 Slams, such was her dominance between 1975 and 1978.

MAXI PAZ She was an extremely gifted player with the competitive spirit of a puppy. Being a “natural player” means nothing. Evert’s record speaks for itself as does Goolagong’s. Hate to break it to you but actually winning is how greatness is measured.

The 1984 AO finals vs Sukova was nerve racking cause Sukova had def Navratilova in the semi's snapping MN 74 match win streak. Many picked HS to def Evert(Lloyd) in the finals, but CE righted herself to win in 3 sets thus keeping her streak of winning at least 1 GS title each year ( at that time 11th straight year)

I'm not sure that the order changed, strictly speaking. But they used to play the Australian in December, so it was the last one in the year. The around ?1987 it moved to being in January. Anyway, thanks again for uploading! x

Not sure I have ever seen a tennis player make fewer unforced errors and she did it with wood racquets for a large portion of her career. Chris was a machine and is already underrated due to the passage of time.

the 82 Australian was played AFTER the 82 US Open- it used to be in December.

Mentally the toughest woman to play and last as long as she did. Martina was the best volleyer and athlete, but Evert tougher.

Chris won 18 Grand Slam titles, but in the 70's she skipped the French Open a few years to play World Team Tennis. That was at the time when she was invincible on clay. If she plays the French every year she ends up with over twenty Grand Slam titles, easily.

Is there a Martina video/her 18 championship points???? Chris and Martina played in Grand Slam finals 14 times...you would think they would be a little more even, but Chris only won 4 of the 14, to Marina's 10. Chris won 3 French and 1 Australian over Martina, and Martina win 5 Wimbledon, 2 US Open, 2 Australian and 1 French over Chris. All of Chris' wins were in 3 sets, Martina won 2 straight set victories at Wimbledon, 1 at US, 1 at French and 1 at Australian, her other 5 were in 3 sets.

In all fairness... Martina wasn't making it to slam finals when Chris was number one. When Martina was number one, Chris was always there. I think that accounts for a lot of that tilted record.

You can see the difference in the consistency here. Notice how few finals Navratilova appears in. Evert made it to the final almost every time and then lost when Navratilova was at her peak. Navratilova didn't make it that far when she didn't win. She lost in earlier rounds not giving Evert a chance to beat her. And in a lot of these Evert beat Navratilova in the semis.

Loved seeing this, everybody loved Chrissie Evert. A funny observation, Martina actually copped a feel of Chris's butt there at that last Roland Garros ! Good for her, they would have made a great LGBT couple.....!!

Her rivalry vs martina was the biggest rivalry other than sampras agassi (just my opinion) Evert won in earlier years and navratilova most win afterthat

Evert actually would and should have more grand slam singles titles... at least 21 since she didn't play the french open 3 consecutive years when she was unbeatable on clay.. Also she only played the Australian open 6 times in her entire career and thus very rarely ever played all 4 majors in a year... No doubt she would have been the all time singles records grand slam champion when put into context.

I don’t think she’s the best ever, but it’s impressive that she entered 56 slams and made the semis or better in 52. She missed 10 slams at Aussie and French at the height of her powers in mid to late 70s. Probably missed a calendar slam in 76. Total could easily be 23-26. Or she might have retired earlier.

@@leolight5369 just my opinion I saw later matches where she had a newer racquet and I still think the play was slower overall and more clever based as opposed to ground strokes being un returnable I am not downplaying her champion status just making me own observation. For me it’s all in the clever approach for these older players as the power just wasn’t there or the height for that matter these girls are like 6 feet now and just obliterate the ball and ground strokes……. Again just my opinion and I get racquet technology but I’m not wrong in the speed of play 😜🤓

@@anyaferreira3778 1989. Her last year on tour. Comparing a young Graf at her peak to an almost retired 34 y.o champion is irrelevant and unfair.

I know Chris idolizes Billie Jean King, but she never should have skipped the French Open in favor of Team Tennis for those several years. I dare say at least 2 more Majors would've been hers.

Winning the most number of Slams wasn’t the all-important, number one goal of players back then. It wasn’t until the last 25 years or so that fans and players have become obsessed with that

Yes, especially the Australian Open back then. What Chris did to GROW the game cannot be measured. Team Tennis was a big part of that. It's still disappointing to know what could have been.

Joe Momma Chrissie could’ve easily ended up with 25 or more Slams if she played 4 Slams a year every year back then, like they do now. But as you said, what she did to grow the game through World Team Tennis...cannot be measured

she did play in 34 grand slam finals...which is a record for females (at the moment)......10 of the losses....WHERE TO....anyone?..............you can guess.......it wouldn't be difficult

If Chris and Martina were in different eras and if they had played the AO and FO more (In Chris case) Serena would not even be close to their totals in GS wins

She won her slams over a 12 year period. She woulda won more if Graf hadn’t come in the picture... Martina too.

But what does that really mean? Graf came along...at some point there was bound to be someone who presented a challenge.

Martina and Chris played 14 GS finals- Martina won 10 to Chris' 4- Chris wins- 3 French- 75, 85 and 86 and 1 Australian- 1982. Chris never beat Martina in a US Open or Wimbledon final. Totals- Australian- 3 finals, 2-1 Martina, 4 French finals 3-1 Chris, Wimbledon finals 5-0 Martina, US 2-0 Martina.

Not only beatiful out, but inside. U can tell the way she shake hands or hug opponents! True lady and polite!But , i dont like her game though

she had a good record in grand slam finals at the beginning until Martina came along. She lost 10 finals to Martina and 5 at Wimbledon. Even she admitted she should have won Wimbledon more

Chris was ripped off on the call in the 1988 Wimby semi against Martina. Martina displayed awful sportsmanship on that one. The point was disputed and the match abruptly ended. The momentum was clearly with Chris. You Tube is too chicken to post the video but you access it via the internet and see the video. It was horrendous.

Thanks. Definitely a phenomenal achievement. But people forget that she LOST 16 Grand Slam singles finals, which is probably a record for a major player. Cheers.

Steffi is not too 3. Her numbers were hugely inflated by Seles stabbing. Chris, Martina & Serena are top 3.

Im.trying to sleep i have an unballance either water sweets or meat abd no vege i found mushroom soip laced with baking soda and spinch both sane instant. Sleep is huge not just fir a sthleete but a public. Lights abd noises need calming but yi war sleep like the dead

Agreed. Martina was a crybaby and moaner ALL throughout her career when things did not go her way. Total gamesmanship many times.
