I remember lying on top of a British Army truck as a young 18 year old out in the desert of Saudi Arabia listening to this song on my treasured Sony Walkman deep in thought watching our Jets fly over head, switching their lights off heading for Kuwait to reign terror onto the Iraq"s forces within a few minutes watching the horizon light up with tracer fire and the spine tingling thump of heavy ordnance being dropped and me thinking soon it will be our turn to advance to war. still makes my hair stand up and takes me back as if it was yesterday.

On my way home from writing the last subject of my senior high school final exams, this song played for the first time on SA national radio (Radio Five) It was 22 October 1988, my 18th birthday. A musical masterpiece with lyrics that, subconsciously, left the following few significant hair raising minutes of pure brilliance in song, imprinted in my brain for life. I saw the sound, I heard in colours, I felt the calling and I knew, the road ahead was going to be very very different to what was expected of me, and what, up to that moment, I thought it would be. This song not only had a profound impact on me, it would play loud in my head at every crossroad throughout one incredulous life journey thus far... and it still does, without fail.

You just made me cry and I'm tuf as fuk, , I absolutely love this too, my long deceased math teacher thought Chris in the school out side town ,where I went, but even dough I allways liked Chris in the 80s I'm more into his music now, .I only discovered this song recently I'm ashamed to say, happy new year hope you're well there

2021 and I do confirm that you will never hear a voice of an angel like this again

When you compare this song with the all these new songs from all these new singers, you relize what does a good melody and song sound like. One the best aongs and best singers ever.

his incredible history, He was born in my Venado Tuerto, Argentina,,He lived the first years in a farm near of this town!!! and their songs are amazing!!

Saw this concert in Montreal in 1989. Absolutely incredible!

I love this version of “the last time I cried” very nice and specially very rock!

WOW!!! What a C.D.B. Masterpiece!! A musical genius of our times! So many great songs from the Eighties! Could listen to this over & over again!

Love how this version is more "hard rocking" relatively speaking with lots of drums, guitar riffs and a big solo than the album version.

I am so lucky to live in the time that you are living. I own you so much Chris de burgh for all i've learned from you.

not underated.. I think he is just a humble man, a true musicion , the music was more important to him then the fame, thats why there is heart and soul in all of his melody's

Such a great version. Love to see this remastered and rereleased.

This guy and his band are utterly amazing the vocal quality and range in Chris's voice is just simply awesome and this song is one of those that sticks the hairs up on the back of your neck. Pure quality long live C.D.B.!!!!!!!! :)))))

I saw Chris and the band in Vancouver at the old Pacific Coliseum in April 1988. Traded in 1 front row ticket for 3 tickets a little further back, as I had 2 friends who wanted to see him as well! What a fantastic concert, just brilliant. I have not seen him since, but am waiting for him to go back on tour. Will definitely get tickets to see him again.

I listened to this for the first time back in the mid 90's late one night after a very long and ardent day. Lying in bed and just listening to the CD with headphones on these were the last two songs. For the first time in many years I laid there with tears running down my cheeks as these words hit so close to home ................

I have his "Man on the Line" album on vinyl.His voice and lyrics are awesome. I can't believe he didn't have greater success in the US. We missed out on alot from Chris!

Melody and harmony all in one song..incredible and fantastic. A very energetic composition..

The most successful concert he performed. His voice was strong. I was at his concert in Montreal 2018/2019 was great though his voice changed over the years 😢

I agree with you as to this version stirs much more emotion than the CD. Back then I could only get the CD's out of Germany, UK or South Africa via friends. In the States no knew who he was and was considered a "one-hit" performer with "Lady in Red". I first heard him in Europe i the mid 70's and have been a fan since and have turned many onto him hear over the years.
