I grew up in Brooklyn. I’m 6-7 years younger than Michael. My dads family came from Italy and first moved to 4th avenue. Largely Irish soMe Norwegian. Kids were not allowed to play with my dad. Why? Italian. They called him “ an N turned inside out”. Irish and Italians hated each other. And frankly I even saw it in the 70s. I had some issues. My grandmother would say Irish no good lol. Later moved to Bensonhurst. Bit Italians and Irish did not mix. If you want to see how Italians were treated when we came here watch the move Cabrini.

It's true. Same thing happened to my grandmother and grandfather. They wouldn't rent to italians. Some big irish goon owned a few apartment buildings in Brooklyn. He would not rent to my grandparents. They had to move into a garage with 4 kids instead.

In a British documentary called Crime inc. Joey Cantalupo told the story about Joe Colombo's father being killed for messing with another made guy's daughter or wife and that they cut off his manhood and put it in his mouth and he was found like that in 1928. The segment is on KZread.

Michael, as to how Italians were perceived here’s a story from Chicago. My Mom and her brothers (Polish) were warned by Grandma not to mingle with the Italians on Taylor Street(circa 1940), Al Capone and all that, even though they lived very close by on 17th Street. Long story short…I ended up with two Sicilian Aunts. 😂 Salute 👍🏻

Johnson had a Rolex camera that he had rented with a check that bounced from a camera shop in Boston days before. The camera may have housed the gun, but maybe not. Johnson was with, according to a number of eye witness accounts, a young attractive black female that handed Johnson the gun right before he shot. The camera was recovered but did not have film. The FBI buried the photograph of the girl that was provided to them by Greg Scarpa Sr., and in the FOIA it states they chose not to share it with the NYPD to protect their informant, in other words, the young black girl was with the FBI. The NYPD through other sources was aware that the young girl was from New Brunswick like Jerome Johnson and they managed to track her to Georgia. However, despite the car outside of the house in Georgia having Jersey plates, the two officers who said they saw now said they couldn't identify her. But let's focus on Johnson for a second, he was shot three times while being handcuffed immediately after he shot Colombo, yet his shooter was never officially identified or prosecuted. Unofficially it was said Colombo's bodyguard Chubby Roselli shot Johnson, but Chubby was never questioned, or prosecuted. Not to mention EVERYTHING happened on camera and the FBI confiscated all of the footage and has buried it for over 5o years. What are they hiding? You think they'd bury this footage to protect Gallo? That's laughable. And why wouldn't Gallo claim credit. He bragged about being part of the barbershop quartet tat killed Albert Anastasia. Why not claim Colombo? Just has importantly, Pete the Greek, Gallo's bodyguard with him everyday, cooperated and claimed Gallo wasn't involved. And Gallo's brother Albert, "Kid Blast" also cooperated and never claimed Joey Gallo was involved. 50 years of cooperating informants and NO ONE in the mob claims this hit. The Gallo or Gambino theories were government propaganda to obscure the truth. Colombo's assassination was a black opt executed by COINTELPRO.

People don’t realize how they policed our neighborhoods. My feelings are that back then every new culture that migrated to New York were abused by the cultures that were there before them. People can’t get along with their own culture many times how can we accept a new group of people who are different and may be taking away their jobs.Good video Micheal and RJ.

That sounds like mind manipulating or some kind of training, because for that guy to think he could survive after that and to whom it was done and where it was. To me during that time, no sane black person not even gangsters would put their family in harm's way. The connection they had, wow they would learn everything, and eventually THEY WOULD FIND YOU!

The real question is how, assuming Chubby did it, he was able to do it in a sea of NYPD blue, in front of photographers and videographers, and then avoid any prosecution whatsoever. No one has ever seen an autopsy of Johnson, and I suspect, that it wasn't just Chubby that shot Johnson, but likely someone else, a shooter sent to silence a shooter. Although Johnson may have believed he had an exit route, those behind him were not going to allow it. Colombo's assassination was no mob hit. It was a well orchestrated COINTELPRO back opt to eliminate Colombo who had become a danger to the status quo. Too much legitimate power too quickly.

The League wasn't just against discrimination with Italians. It was for everyone. In fact, in you look at any of the League meetings you'd be surprised as to how many woman, black, and Jewish people attended. 200 captains of the league, those in charge of a chapter, were black or Jewish. This was Colombo's real threat politically that he was uniting Italians, Blacks, and Jewish people against the government. This was viewed as subversive and dangerous to the Justice Department and the Nixon administration. And for that, Colombo was eliminated.
