Then like you've said, there's everything else. I only use my air con in the summer now, a few hours in the afternoon, just to cool things down. (Ducted system) I don't bother in the winter.

Wholesale cost of electricity in australia is the same as canada. About 10c a kWh. Retail cost in australia is 45c a kWh average. Source AER website. Canada retailers mark up very little. In australia 450% This is the cause of power bill stress

Home solar cannot continue to be pushed back into the grid. As more do it it cooks the grid by pushing the voltage over 240v. Thats why each has to be connected through a smart meter to turn them all off remotely before they cook everybody's appliances.

I had to upgrade the wiring on my system as it had a cut off setup for that reason and was hardly ever operating!!.....My electrician told me all this and said this is just the beginning!!
